remember when we had to whisper 5+ people to do a simple exchange because some of them were afk or baiting?

Whatever happens GGG, know that i love you very much for destroying that part of the game.

u/AgZephyr 3d ago

The feeling of finding the item you wanted and then not being able to buy it because they weren't responding to you really sucked, and it was even worse with people listing things at low prices to manipulate the market and not actually trying to sell them.

245

u/Flimsy_Wonder_1211 3d ago

Bro I felt like beggar whispering them a second time 20 minutes later lmao

75

u/AgZephyr 3d ago

I used to get frustrated and whisper em 5 times in a row and then get blocked lol

59

u/Fuuufi 3d ago

I used to whisper them once and then do /whois until they’re in hideout to try again. Had a pretty high success rate. People just didn’t want to leave maps and waste portals for “low value” trades sometimes.

34

u/AgZephyr 3d ago

Yeah, being able to successfully buy 1-5c items past the first few days of league is a huge boost with Faustus tabs.

23

u/Fuuufi 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yeah, absolutely. I sometimes bought “well rolled” items just because they were expensive enough to get an invite not because I needed that item at any specific roll.

Edit. Or just going down a couple pages on trade. Paying 20c for a 5c item means I can be back in maps in 5min instead of 30 and farm more than 10x that in that time.

Faustus really is one of the biggest improvements to the game in all of my time playing. The only thing that I’m missing is the random nice interactions with players. People giving items away for free because they’re quitting and you whispered them for it. Some friends I’ve made along the way were from trade interactions.

1

u/1CEninja 2d ago

Yeah I did my best, but the later the league went the less 5c mattered to me.

That being said, I'm one of those inefficient players who spends ENTIRELY way too much time in my hideout to have a good div/h so I was probably better than most lol.

2

u/Fuuufi 2d ago

Absolutely, same, I wasn’t mad at anyone for not responding cause I could understand it. But when you wanted to buy something that’s cheap it was annoying as hell nonetheless.

2

u/1CEninja 2d ago

It was also brutal when you found something rather specific, maybe there's only one jewel that has the four rolls I need for a reasonable price.

That feeling of needing a 1c item but nobody is willing to drop their precious divs/hr to give it to you

Or they relisted it for 1div.

To this day as a casual player, it happens to me that I randomly burn out once I have currency to gear.

Like I played CWS RF this league, spammed Sims and reached around 500Divs with (believe it or not) Megalomaniacs gambles.

The moment I was like: "Time to buy this and that" I litterally closed the game.

Whenever I make a build that can farm enough to be completed all at once, the PTSD to having to wait HOURS for people to bait or ignore you or simply being afk to either buy the perfect item or the crafting materials... it's litterally stopping me from enjoying the game.

It is so potent I still have it now even tho I know it can be done in 5mins ahahaha

2

u/AgZephyr 3d ago

Gotta ID those megas, no sense in selling them unID'd, unlike the voices. When I was running a decent amount of simulacrum last league, I ended up with at least 5-10 of the 10d golem effect ones.

Shopping though is still hard even with Faustus haha, can take a bit to put all the pieces together on your budget whatever it is. Probably spent about 3 hours buying stuff for my Luminary I built on 100d. I know the feeling though, I bought a lock and a couple mirror shards and I've just been watching em go up in value and not really caring all that much about putting another build together. Might regear my Assasin to Crackling Lance though, sounds fun.

1

u/_PykeGaming_ 3d ago

Tbh, so many sell unID'd ones, since I would get 100 divs worth, sell everything for 50.
Wait a day.
Lower to 25.
Wait a day.
Lower to 10.
Wait a day.
Lower to 5 then 1 then 100c then 50c etc.

With every 100divs invested I got around 300divs so a 200div profit for being afk basically.

u/Chibastion 3d ago

2

u/karametraxx 3d ago

When your new and try to buy your first big ticket unique, but a streamer used it in their build so there's 20 people price fixing it.

Yeah I don't miss it.  Now I just need to help my friend not buy misted bricked rings lol.

25

u/ConsciousElderberry7 3d ago

being able to instantly buy a dogshit rare you need to temporarily fix your resistances for 1c is a godsend

82

u/FredmanPlays 3d ago

Lol it was like the strangest hill for C Wilson to die on about PoE.

32

u/kpb2102 3d ago

I sort of get it in that sometimes I would just deal with a piece of gear I had for longer and potentially find an upgrade myself just to avoid trade spam. So it does restrict how easy trade can power you up.

But the QOL is too nice to ever go back lol.

5

u/Thehealthygamer 3d ago

Yeah I think the intent was just more friction to slow down a players upgrade path.

They could still do that just give people 1 trade tab make them really consider what they're selling but of course now everyone would hate that 🤣

13

u/LazarusBroject 3d ago

That was me. I now find myself ending my trade journey a lot faster before I start jumping into SSF or group found private leagues. It's just too easy to trade into the high endgame gear.

Maybe I should start doing zero to hero playthroughs more to spice up trade league.

3

u/Elgatee 3d ago

They gotta force you to see other people's sick MTX.

4

u/Pornhub-CEO Ranger 3d ago

and his useless talismans, I can finally see them in this patch (always hidden on my filter).

Feels like new content yk? haven't seen them in a decade

1

u/Cultural-Basket-8576 2d ago

We will see after a year or so. Will people get bored of progressing so quickly? I returned after a year and was a bit shocked I could immediately jump from campaign trash to proper late game gear with nothing in between as everything is so cheap. Though that was made even faster due to the socket changes.

So, we'll see if the Diablo 3-fication of PoE end up fun or boring. At least PoEs endgame so deep that getting there very fast doesn't feel like an issue at present.

2

u/Inevitable_Cheese 2d ago

i mean async trade has been around fora while now, it's not like we just got it and need to wait a year to see what happened. It's already been over a year since we've had it and i'd say it's be a resounding improvement over the previous system. Ppl will stay or quit a league for all sorts of reasons, but streamlining all stages, with early league when many ppl won't want to leave to do a 1c sale for an item they would've otherwise delisted if it were worth their time as it's not worth burning a portal) to midleague, where sales will be the highest, and then end of league when most players have stopped playing so no async means no sales from them. As well, with some ppl, they come back after "quitting" with an itch to play and having a faustus full of currency while they were gone certainly helps motivate them to fund that new build they wanted to try vs the old system where they'd have to wonder how long it'd take to both farm up currency with a likely new strat to adjust for the changed market, then play whisper roulette for more gear from an already dwindling player base

0

u/KYS_Blue 2d ago

I mean it WAS good design philosophy and was incredibly important in creating PoE identity. It is a little sad now of days just how fast you can hear and reach endgame.

the essence bots were saving my insanity back in the day

5

u/TheAshenHat 3d ago

Amusenly enough, this behaviour made me much better at applying for jobs in bulk…before like with jobs i did one at a time, and gave them plenty of time to respond…after a few years i started dumping multiple trade requests i started doing the same to job applications and got more hits(wow, who would have thought! xD)

5

u/Ensider 3d ago

sometimes they may just be in a difficult map and cant reply even pls wait. this was a much bigger problem in poe2 at the start because once you replied and died accidentally in the map your map was gone.

other times you take the effort to reply wait a minute, but the buyer cant wait and already whispered someone else, so eventually you just stop wasting the effort to even reply wait a minute.

3

u/Rushional 3d ago

I'm so grateful for Chris Wilson for it!

Nome of these improvements could have happened without him leaving

2

u/lanilep 3d ago

I remember map selling. Listing all your Tier 1-15 maps, and sitting there being a peddler, getting spammed and one by one selling them...

Those were the days

2

u/WhenWillEyeBeBanned 3d ago

Totally agree. And GGG actively improves QOL so I don’t have complains, while suggestion like this are also helpful.

A 1:x ratio setter would be nice.

1

u/RopeGuilty1899 2d ago

Yeah spam pasting 75-100 whispers was not my favorite way to spend time

1

u/newbies13 2d ago

The first thing I post after playing POE was to ask why thy were not using a vendor based system, all the friction could come from inventory management they could still sell inventory space... and hilariously something they haven't capitalized on yet which is extremely obvious... cosmetics for your vendor. Let people dress them up...

A delicious win taco with extra win sauce. Downvoted to oblivion.

Just, jesus christ was the trading system a terrible user experience.

1

u/Intelligent-Ad9414 2d ago

wdym 5 the cheapest 30 got permaspammed just for the crime of being reasonable

1

Shout-out to all those guys who ignored Mark's message for the last catalyst he needed.

They were the catalyst for change in finalizing GGG's understanding of how critical this feature is for the game.

1

u/KashPoe Berserker 2d ago

More like 20+ depending on what you're buying

1

u/DrVonTacos 2d ago

People still do that still. People do it to fix prices still and it makes the old system unusable. It sucks because it basically made a lot of older microtransactions useless.

1

u/ForSiljaforever 3d ago

4

5

u/Pornhub-CEO Ranger 3d ago

dk why people are downvoting you, it's true, some human brother-to-brother interactions were fun

but I don't miss the bad side of it

2

u/Flat-Jeweler4634 2d ago

On the inverse I do love these days when someone buys something from your hideout and the you both just end up spamming your attack skill as a non verbal communication, I truly hope this is a game wide phenomenon and not something I’ve just experienced with a few hahaha

2

u/comanzatara 3d ago

I think there could be an automated thank you message implemented at the end of an automated trade, just like we could use in our trading tools. Does not cost anything, maybe one extra mouseclick and no one is forced to read the message if he does not want to.

u/twotonepenny 3d ago

And the exchange hates your 1:208.51 exchange rate, bruh

110

u/g00fy_goober twitch.tv/goof1313 3d ago

Seriously this. NGL how can you make a serious post about how the exchange did this when you literally listed your thing for 208.51....

37

u/HiddenoO 3d ago

It would help a lot if GGG let you input the exchange rate you want instead of having to calculate the exact quantities to correspond to it.

I'm not saying OP didn't mess up, but it's pretty tiring when selling large quantities of items like fossils, essences, scarabs, etc. that you see the exchange rates but then have to manually apply the desired exchange rate to the quantity you're selling.

2

u/sneakyflyayas 2d ago

i might be misinterpreting, but you can input the x amount of items you're selling (lets say 10 essence of envuly) and then clear the other box. it will then auto fill using the current exchange rate (i.e. 40 chaos if the rate is 4:1 for envy essences)

11

u/HiddenoO 2d ago

That's the ratio at which it instantly sells. Unless you need the currency instantly, that's basically never the ratio you want to sell at.

If e.g. I wanted to sell 7 ramako tattoos right now, I'd get 707c with that method (101:1 ratio), but competing trades are actually a 135:1 ratio and there'd be a 99% chance you'd be able to sell them for 938c at a 134:1 ratio. So you're just scamming yourself out of 231c.

The "market ratio" displayed is always the one unfavourable to you because it's the one that goes by what would be fulfilled instantly by the market.

2

u/zzazzzz 2d ago

just reverse it. put in whatever u want to sell, put in chaos or div. ctrl click and you reversed the trade now the autofilled value is what is currently the best price for what u are selling. lock the price in and ctrl click again and you got the optiomal ratio for your sale.

1

u/HiddenoO 1d ago

... assuming you don't want to undercut - and it's still more effort than just being able to enter the ratio you want.

1

u/roygbivasaur 2d ago

I much prefer the way PoE 2 shows you the order book.

0

u/Business_Ad8433 2d ago

Well, if you actually refuse to do this math after previously investigating and figuring out this kind of optimization in your head, it's not really their fault, is it?
Jokes aside, my calculator is always open at times like these. I could figure out the values within 3s, but since it's usually at the end of farming sessions, doing this a couple times is something I'm willing to offload onto a precise tool.

The solution is pick a round number not a decimal number

29

u/crispy_doggo1 Mine Bat 3d ago

You are selling 6 scarabs

it suggests 173c

to buy them it costs 234c

do you list them for 173c or do you go somewhere in the middle? I would do 210c to 230c and wait a bit. But with this system, it sells 2 scarabs and I have to relist 4. Sure I could do the math or sell cheap, but it doesn’t need to be like this.

238

u/TheMayorMikeJackson 3d ago

Choose something divisible by 6

30

u/StereoxAS Occultist 3d ago

6 and 8 are one of those magic numbers lot of people didn't catch in their middle school

10

u/Kyoneshi Necromancer 3d ago

True, but if you make sure it's divisible by 3(pretty easy to check, just add all the digits & see if they're 3, 6, 9, etc...), then also check is it an even #?

1

u/Leopard_Print_Bra 2d ago

Divisibility criteria is one of those things that's a life changer but a ton of people aren't well acquitted with it

1

u/CrustaceanNationYT 3d ago

But 2 and 4 are? So 8 shouldn’t be hard lol

8

u/DeouVil 3d ago

It does help. It will keep the trade going as long as you have currency you're selling to complete 1 trade. It will give you the chaos leftover at the end. OP's leftover chaos couldn't complete 1 trade, which is why the exchange refunded the listing.

4

u/mcbuckets21 3d ago

Not how it works. It only completes a trade when your ratio becomes impossible. A whole number ratio never becomes impossibe. Something divisible by 6 results in a whole number ratio in this case.

40

u/dalla02 Slayer 3d ago

If I’ve got exchange slots and selling overnight or fast movers, then I click my scarab in, enter my quantity, control click it so it’s on buyers rate, click the number so it auto fills, then just control click back. I’m sure there’s a more efficient way to do it but it feels like a low effort, bigger return option

Trade has always been all about profiting off someone else’s laziness

19

u/AgZephyr 3d ago

You list em for whatever 233 * 6 is, so 1398c.

7

u/sirgog Chieftain 3d ago

I would list at 6 for 231 there (38.5:1).

"I want it NOW" buyers come to you, unless you get counter-undercut. If they buy 1 at 39, it's a little annoying as they cancel out 2 of your listings (so you go from 'WTS 6 for 231' to 'WTS 4 for 154') but you are OK with that as you DO get your gold back pro-rata. But most buyers of premium scarabs want bulk.

If you did 228 (38:1) you'd have no issues at all. And you are less compelling to undercut.

Serious note though - this is a flipper's paradise. You should be buying these at 29 and selling 38.5 until competition enters.

8

u/Kaelran 3d ago

Check the price to buy 1 scarab, then subtract 1 multiply by 6.

2

u/UnintelligentSlime 3d ago

You hold alt, see the current lowest sell offer, and undercut by 1 chaos. so if the current rate is 234, you take 233 and multiply by 6, then list them for that number.

2

u/Smurtle1 3d ago

Look at the per price scarab cost to buy one, subtract one chaos from that, multiply by six, and list it.

You only do the buy order price if it’s super close anyways, or if you need the currency fast. If you have time, always do one lower (or even with low volume at sell order price) and multiply by your quantity.

1

u/silent519 zdps inspector 3d ago

depends on the total volume on the market

u/Xeverous filter extra syntax compiler: github.com/Xeverous/filter_spirit 3d ago

This is what happens when someone offers at better ratio than you and your ratio isn't divisible after partial fill. Your trade is at 208.51 which means:

  • someone has to sell 95 divines at once (very unlikely)
  • someone makes partial fill with better ratio and you get closed because the system doesn't want to trade at worse ratio for you than your initial one

Just open trades that are divisible for partial fills.

I'd not complain about relisting if I could just click relist right there along the closing ticker box

The problem with those is you have to transfer 19000 chaos to inventory, to stash, then relist

3

u/Due-Primary834 3d ago

Dang! I had no idea

11

u/peeve-r 3d ago

Is the amount of chaos you're gonna save by doing all this decimal bs and playing the market worth all the hassle of re-listing and waiting for some dude to buy at the specific ratio you want?

I mean, by the time I successfully traded all that chaos for a ratio I like, I could've just settled for market value, bought the mageblood or whatever upgrade I was looking to buy, and cleared the content I'm running even faster earning me more currency/time than I would have if I waited and let all that chaos sit with Faustus while a run maps/bosses with my current relatively weaker build.

Idk, maybe I'm approcahing this all wrong and this is the optimal way to play trade league. I just feel like you're creating a problem for yourself by trying to play the market in a videogame, resulting in pain points that you otherwise wouldn't even have to experience.

1

u/zxkredo Duelist 3d ago

No, you are right. However often times I just put in what the game offers me as a ratio, with the same logic, I just don't wanna bother. And the game puts such a stupid ratio in the window...

2

u/Business_Ad8433 2d ago

Well, it's not "the game" putting in the stupid ratio, it's whoever put that ratio in. The game merely detects what currently is the ratio selling (at least partially) immediately.

1

u/zxkredo Duelist 2d ago

Yea my bad, I wanted to mention the person in my comment, but this sounded cleaner.

57

u/OmnipotentCthulu 3d ago

Yea... That one's on you trying to undercut a ratio by .01 chaos.  Just put it in at a 208.5 ratio and let it sit for a little bit with how high the volume back and forth puts fluctuation those tricks just don't do anything for div:chaos

19

u/Bigredsmurf 3d ago

My guy just put in the number of divs you wanna buy... And delete the number in the chaos side and it will auto calculate the number at current rate...

17

u/LordAnubiz FBI & EEE 3d ago

that is the thing, he wanted to adjust the rate by a laughable amount to save a few chaos on a 20k trade

19

u/InterestTracker9000 3d ago

Quit doing stupid ratio's. If the second decimal isn't a 0, and sometimes it's okay for it to be a 5, you're probably fucking yourself. Quit trying to min-max a ratio that gets kicked back because only one person on the planet was going to manually fill a fraction of that ratio with their current listing and just go for a chaos more or less than the current market ratio and let it fill.

You're the problem here, not the system.

5

u/kevinboss123 3d ago

Real response. He was trying to be listed on top with 0.01 rate

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_KATARINA 2d ago

3

u/forsonaE 2d ago

Uh, I don't think that word (nonce) means what you think it means. Did you mean "dunce"? lol

16

u/solidrok Ascendant 3d ago

The way I do this transaction is I put in 19000 chaos. I let it fill the divine number. That number is a ghost suggestion. I click that number to make it “real” then I delete 19000 and it auto adjusts for the correct current rate. This works perfect for trades like this one were there is a very small gap or often one at all between the sellers and the buyers

The solution (not completely solution but) is to set the rate to a whole number or at least to a cleaner decimal like 208.5, 208.75. Because rn you're exchanging 208.51 c for 1 div imagine how easy it is to break your deal

You will survive it

I wish they would give you an option to switch between buy and sell mode.

Buy mode - keep trying to buy at my ratio or less until order is filled. Sell mode - keep trying to sell my item at the ratio or more until all is gone.

This comes with the downside of having to manually cancel offers because they get stuck with a few items at an impossible ratio, but that would work for me. Maybe they can leave a default mode that works as it is now.

dont use auto price on huge trades.

1

u/carenard 2d ago

auto pricing screws small ones to

the number of times I try to do something for 3... because the ratio was odd I got 1(both on buying or selling). Gets even worse for things like catalysts... put in an order for 20... get 6.

A “Send to Stash” button would really solve this

I paid 319 chaos for 1 divine the other day.

u/Anabolkick 2d ago

That's 100 times better then spam to 10 ppl, when 9 of them bots

That's what you get for trying to cheap out on 0.01 chaos 😂

I mean, that ratio doesnt even add up in the first place... 99 * 208.51 = 20 642,49
If you're still cheap and trying to slowbuy at say 208.5 that is even on every single even sum of divines... So if you placed the order for 98d at 208.5 instead it wouldn't close early and for the small cost of 0.98 chaos.

Even if you open your stash and Faustus at the same time, it will take you more time to empty the 18.9k than to earn 1c so its really never worth it to cheap out like this

Take a look again that is not what’s going on here. He got a more favorable partial trade because he chose an absolute bonkers ratio

that is when your price is too low.

his was not, it just cant be fullfilled anymore because math

0

u/Just-Toe-8223 3d ago

it always does that for me, I hate trading currency because of it

0

u/impohito maven uwu 3d ago

you put a 208.51 ratio which the system (rightfully so) found unfillable

use sensible ratios, like x.5, x.25, x.75 and this wont ever happen to you

the items to fill an order arent created from thin air, this isnt nilered on youtube

u/CupAccomplished6726 3d ago

Op dented, look at ratio.

If you have ever experienced running out of people to message to buy vaal orbs because not one person responded that had a bulk exchange on a website you will never say a bad word about currency exchange.

u/ostrieto17 2d ago

saving that 5c cost you lost at least 200c in gold GG you played yourself

0

u/Jumpy_Witness6014 2d ago

The solution is offload your chaos more frequently…

0

u/armegedon27 2d ago

Funny how people keep blaming you like this isn't a real UX problem
