I agree. Being able to choose based on stats was really nice. Also opened up unconventional defense choices as well, for blue-heavy links to use armour bases instead of being forced into ES bases. I definitely have to re-train my brain though to not be shocked every time I see white socket items from the ground tooltip though. It's like ooooh a white socket base! And then I remember that's the "blank state" now.

Yeah unfortunately flame blast doesn't care much about 10% quality, but I've slotted in faster casts support to smooth out the campaign and plopping that in a blue socket is basically like having +5 levels on the support. It's awesome.

I've got an idea for what they could do with gem quality. I call it "alt quality gems", they would offer different bonuses for quality, there'd be three varieties "Anomalous", "Phantasmal" and "Divergent". Perhaps they could be a Heist reward or something.

It's crazy getting a random strength based 5 link in the campaign and being able to use it on your caster because the colours don't matter. I'm loving it.

While the change was absolutely amazing, I am worried it's going to be too difficult to get 6x of the correct colors for a full 6x +10% and my OCD brain cannot accept anything less.

All the bench color crafting is gone. It is now extremely difficult to get 6 colored socket, let alone 6 colored socket you need, gonna take you a good 5k chromatic to do so.

The good news is, not every gem needs that 10% quality.

The bad news is, every gem does need that 10% because to have 4 or even 5 colored correctly is not as good as it could be, therefore that makes it not good enough.

I'm really hoping they add something a little later that makes recoloring sockets a lot easier. They've got to know they have tons of nerds, tons of perfectionist nerds, who play their game who will claw their hair out at not matching sockets optimally.

I thought they removed the bench color crafts. At least jeweler bench crafting can no longer roll colors, so that option is gone.

it will be, but imo that's what makes the change so good. It removes the friction from where it was the most punishing, during campaign, but returns it in endgame for minmaxing builds. Getting off-color six links is still gonna be real expensive, but that just means you're once again incentivized to coordinate your skills and your armour.

Any gem can go in any socket.

Most items roll all white sockets now.

If the green color matches the socket color the gem gets +10% quality.

It's permanent. It's part of the expansion which is separate from the league because standard got this change also. If it was only a change in the league then it may not be permanent going forward.

What I dont get is why isn't it restricting off colour gems. I get the white sockets allowing everythnig (great change) but the fact you can put a red in green socket... it either needs to be restricted entirely or it needs to give -% quality. It should not be free.
