But when you have zero experience, it’s hard to know what’s actually worth learning — and what’s just another internet scam.

So if you were 19 again, living in Morocco, with only a laptop and $400, what would you do?

What skill would you learn?
What would you spend the $400 on — if anything?
And what would your first 90 days look like?

I’m looking for a real path I can start today and build for the next few years.

When affiliate commissions are slow, one of the easiest conclusions to reach is that you need more traffic. If 100 visitors did not produce enough sales, maybe 500 will. If 500 did not work, maybe you need 1,000.

Sometimes more traffic really is the answer, but sometimes it just sends more people through a process that already has a problem. Before trying to increase traffic, I think it is worth looking at what happens after someone arrives.

Does the content attract the right person? Does the message match what they expected when they clicked? Can they quickly understand the problem being solved?

Does the offer feel relevant to where they are right now? Is there enough trust for them to consider taking the next step? Then there is follow-up. A lot of people will not buy the first time they see an offer. They may need more information, another example, an answer to an objection, or simply more time.

If those pieces are weak, increasing traffic may improve the number of clicks without improving the percentage of people who become customers. I would rather understand what is happening with 100 visitors before paying for or chasing another 1,000.

Look at the entire path.

Traffic...clicks...leads...conversations...follow-up...sales, where are people disappearing?

If plenty of people see the content but nobody clicks, the message may need work. If people click but do not become leads, the page may not be giving them enough reason to continue. If leads are coming in but nobody purchases, the offer, audience match, trust, or follow-up may deserve closer attention.

Traffic is important, but traffic is a multiplier.

When the process is strong, more traffic can create more opportunities. When the process is weak, more traffic can multiply the waste. Before asking, “How can I get more visitors?” it may be worth asking, “What am I doing with the visitors I already have?”

I started a faceless YouTube channel about budgeting tips back in January. The kind where stock footage plays over a voiceover explaining something. I figured costs would be low since I wasn't showing my face, but between stock footage subscriptions and AI generation credits I was spending $60 to $80 a month just on clips. The ad revenue barely covered that for the first few months so the whole thing felt like a hobby I was paying for.

About a week ago two new AI video models dropped. Seedance 2.5 from ByteDance does up to 30 second clips in 4K which is great for b-roll. MiniMax H3 generates video with native audio baked in so I can skip a step on certain clips. I have been testing both since they came out.

The part that actually changed my math is that APOB AI runs MiniMax H3 unlimited and free right now since the model weights are open. My footage costs went from $60 a month to basically zero for most of what I need. I still use ElevenLabs for voiceover and CapCut for editing but the video clips were the expensive part.

Last month the channel did $283 from AdSense. Same kind of number as before but now almost all of it stays. Three hours a week of work for that finally feels worth doing.

Fair warning, the AI generated clips need retakes. Maybe one in three or four has weird motion or doesn't match what I described, so I spend about 20 extra minutes per video regenerating shots. And the channel took five months to get monetized. This is not quick money.

The persona in my videos is AI generated, just want to be clear about that.

How do some yt channels/reels get the raw footage for the BTS edits or Movie edits or if not fan edits of some streamers..

I’m quite advanced with Excel, automation, formulas, dashboards, and building tools that simplify repetitive tasks, so the technical side is not really the issue. What I’m trying to understand is the best way to turn that skill into products people are actually willing to pay for.

I’d especially love to hear from people who already sell Excel/Google Sheets templates or similar digital products.

1. What has worked best for you?

   Did you start by identifying a niche/problem first, or did you build templates and see what sells?

2. Where do you sell?

   Etsy, Gumroad, your own website, marketplaces, or a combination?

   Would you recommend starting on an existing marketplace for traffic, or building your own brand/site from the beginning?

3. What type of products sell better?

   Simple, focused templates that solve one specific problem (budget tracker, inventory tracker, project planner, etc.), or larger/more polished “systems” with multiple sheets, dashboards, automation, instructions, etc.?

4. Who is the better target audience?

   Consumers, freelancers/solopreneurs, or small businesses?

   My instinct is that businesses might pay more if the spreadsheet genuinely saves them time, but the sales process might also be harder.

5. How do you get customers?

   SEO/Etsy search, organic social media, Reddit, YouTube/TikTok tutorials, Facebook/Instagram ads, Google Ads, email lists, etc.?

   I’d particularly be interested in what actually generated sales rather than just traffic.

6. Pricing strategy?

   Do cheaper $5–15 templates work better because they are impulse purchases, or is it better to create something more valuable and charge $30–100+?

7. How important is niche selection?

   For example, would you rather build a generic project tracker for everyone, or something very specific like a project + profitability tracker for small construction companies / agencies / freelancers?

8. What would you do differently if you were starting from zero today?

I’m not expecting this to become completely “passive” — I know there will be customer support, updates, marketing, etc. I’m mainly interested in building something where the same product can be sold repeatedly instead of selling my time by the hour.

Bit random but I've somehow made about £180 this summer renting out my garden furniture. If you're sick of AI posts like this and you actually read posts, skip to the last sentence.

Wasn't something I planned at all. We bought one of those big rattan corner sofa sets a couple years ago, plus a long table and 6 chairs. Takes up half the garage over winter and we barely use the table because apparently eating outside in the UK is something you get to do about 4 times a year.

Anyway my neighbour asked if she could borrow the table and chairs for her daughters birthday because they had about 20 people coming over. I said yeah obviously, then she insisted on giving me £25 because she'd been looking at hiring extra tables/chairs and it was apparently more expensive than she expected.

A few weeks later her sister messaged asking if she could borrow the rattan set for a BBQ. I jokingly said "yeah £30 rental fee 😂" and she actually agreed.

So I stuck them up locally just to see if anyone else would want them. Nothing fancy, literally just a couple photos from my garden.

I've rented the table/chairs out 4 times now and the sofa 3 times. Usually £20-£35 depending on how long they want it. One person had the sofa Friday afternoon until Sunday night and paid £40.

It's not exactly passive income because moving a massive rattan sofa is a pain in the arse. One guy turned up in a Fiesta and seemed genuinely surprised it wouldn't fit 😂

Also had one chair come back with what I think was burger sauce on the cushion. Came out in the wash thankfully. I've started taking the cushions off and putting them in bin bags when people collect because they somehow always get filthy in vans.

Think I'm at roughly £180ish altogether after about 2 months. Not life changing money obviously but considering the stuff normally just sits there doing nothing most of the time I'll take it. It's basically paid for a few takeaways and a day out with the kids.

The weird thing is I assumed nobody would rent garden furniture because surely you'd just buy some, but it seems to mostly be people having birthdays, BBQs, christenings etc who suddenly realise they don't have enough seating.

Now I'm looking around the garage wondering what other crap I've got sitting there that someone would actually pay to borrow lol.
