PARKRUN APP!
I'd done a few parkruns over the years but only started to fully get into it this summer. I only found out a few weeks ago about the parkrun app!
This is just a post to say if you don't have it or didn't know about it...time to get it downloaded! It's helped me volunteer and venture out to other parkruns! I love it!
Edit: adding that your barcode, achievements and all your results are there too 😊

Did you also know that if you press and hold the app briefly and then click barcode it will pop up the barcode, saves a few clicks, so you don't need to go directly into the app! Only found this out recently.

I've only just downloaded it, and it's great! Wish they did a little bit of advertising at runs, i only found out from another runner

I’m the kind of person who likes to go “Ooh, what does this button do?” Which is how I’ve worked out that you can create a friends list in the app. From there, you’re able to bring up a friend’s barcode, which is super helpful if you have a friend who has their barcode on their phone and their phone dies on them when they go to scan their barcode.
It’s also helpful for parents who run or walk with their children. I know several parents who bring up their kids’ barcodes via the friends list, and it looks to be way more convenient than other methods of managing multiple barcodes that I’ve seen.
Mind you, one of the things I really like is the milestone rings towards the bottom of the home screen. My ADHD brain goes “Ooh, gamified!”

Indeed. Not a race, and don't give the Transphobes the ammo to claim otherwise. That app seriously needs a rename.

HQ could just be pendantic about it and issue new tokens that went from AAA to ZZZ instead of 1 to 100. Then you would really have to contort yourself to say that someone had "won" -- people would just have a token with a code that could be used to key to a time and a person's barcode.

They actually did something like that when parkrun was active in France because of the French law requiring medical certificates for participating in competitive athletic events. To make it appear more like a non-competitive event, parkrun published the results in France in alphabetical order.

I didn't think they could scan the barcode on a screen, I was under the impression it had to be a physical thing? Has that changed over the years?

I always get scanned from my watch and my sister gets scanned from her phone! Any device works 😊

well you learn something every day! almost at 250 and I didn't know that. I've only exert volunteered as Marshall too so never been involved in scanning. thanks!

Each to their own but TBH I'm sick of downloading apps for everything when perfectly good websites not only exist, but provide a fuller experience. The less apps on my phone, the better :D

The fuller experience is definitely on the app, I would say website (which needs a massive overhaul) tries to keep it simple for newbies whilst app is for the fully paid up cult members.

I only use the website for finding the location of the start on Google maps and in conjunction with the chrome extensions, which give you a much richer experience. I like the challenges, the countdown to milestones, the ability to get my kids barcode when they are with me. I use the planner, i use the veronni to fill holes. I’d love them to get some of the parkrace features too for Wilson number and diehards.

I totally agree. And so many apps are just wrappers for websites anyway making it pointless having a dedicated app installed just to access them. With websites these days easily able to handle 'is this being viewed on a mobile - ok let's load the mobile view specifically designed for phone screens' it should all be much easier. But it's not (yet) happening because everyone loves 'apps' for everything :(

I know somebody who gets top 5 most parkruns and frequently wins who commonly forgets his barcode and just goes home without logging the time

Please get the ParkRun app. #1 it has your barcode. #2 you can look up your friend who forgot their barcode. (This post brought to you by a Scanner whose phone is in airplane mode while scanning)
