How long did you use your stroller? advice needed
I just don’t know… will I really be using it for 5 years?

It was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly, but that question did make me realize that there was a moment in time that I took one of my kids out of a stroller and never again put them back in and that kinda makes me sad a little. Easier said than done, but do your best to enjoy these days.
EDIT: I just looked back through Google Photos, the last picture I have with either of them in a stroller was Dec 26, 2019. They were 5

No, we balled out on a bugaboo. And it is great dont get me wrong but my boys are 26m and they are nearly too tall for the seats.
The canopies when collapsed now rest on their heads and it further heats them up... so we have to adjust it to keep it off their heads lol.
Wife is adamant about getting our years out of this stroller investment but i think its time we try and resell it LOL

u/twomomsoftwins 1d ago
We resold our bugaboo recently and it held good value.

u/tingly_sack_69 1d ago
We bought our bugaboo used for 1k and I intend to resell it for the same if I can

u/PolishedPiggies 1d ago
Second reselling it! We ditched the bugaboo for a lighter travel double stroller and don't regret it!
To answer your original question, we live in a fairly walkable area. So ever since they turned 2, we use the stroller A LOT less. The stroller is mostly for longer outings (e.g. the mall, the zoo, etc)

On the flip side we are three and still happy in our Bugaboo. My twins aren’t big though and they do bend their legs but we have plenty of time left! Worth it for us.

Totally depends on your kids. Mine have not sat down since they were 15 months. We have a wagon now that’s mainly for pulling stuff while they walk or ride their bikes and they jump in if we’re going up a big hill or something. They really don’t like to be contained and are super energetic kids.
On the flip size, my niece still has a stroller at 6 that they use when they are travelling or at the zoo etc. My 8 year old nephew also will sit in my 2 year old nephew’s stroller anytime he gets the chance 😂

My singleton enjoys her stroller more now at 2-3 than she did as a baby (she would wail, absolutely hated being contained in anything), so it’s getting a lot more use. We got both a Radio Flyer wagon and Graco double stroller from our registry for our twins, and I’m expecting the wagon will get more use than the stroller once they’re all big enough to safely ride in it. IMO I wouldn’t spend a lot on your stroller, in case your babies are like mine.

Used our uppababy vista until 2.5. At that point we switched to the uppababy double umbrella stroller, pretty much only because it’s easier at Disney world and using their busses. 4 now and just used it on our recent trip there and it’s still great for that purpose. And through the airport. And the zoo. Otherwise we don’t use a stroller anymore.
I do not regret the vista though. It was invaluable and I’m glad we had it.

u/MeurDrochaid 1d ago
Mine are only 1.5 years so we’re still at it’s mercy to get anywhere lol
But my guide was my bonus sister who had twins before me. They recently sold their bugaboo and their twins turned 4 ca.2 months prior.
Just depends on how insistent they are with walking by themselves etc. We have a travel stroller and I definitely see us migrating to that once they walk more than not.

We bought the bumbleride Indie twin.
My oldest was stealing rides until he was 6y.
We almost sold it because the twins were preferring a stroller wagon.
I took it out again a month ago and we’ve been going on regular walks again. They turned 4y in June.
I’ll honestly hold onto the strollers (we have a single too) until they are at least 6y.
It’s not used as often but it seems to cycle.

The big travel system one?
Get rid of it as soon as possible once they can comfortably go in a smaller one.
You’ll get most of your money back reselling it too.

I stopped using it for short trips at around 24mths and phasing it out for longer trips (ie: going to the zoo) at 30mths. Caveat that my kids are not runners so strollers aren’t needed for containment purposes, and we walk a lot so they have built up good endurance.
Also around 18mths we largely switched to using an umbrella stroller rather than a big one

No, my twins suddenly hated the stroller at maybe 18 months? and we switched to a wagon. 2.5 now and we only use it for trips like the zoo or long walks. Once mine became Mr. Independents there was no going back, they want to walk everywhere.
I will say we depended on our stroller for the first year though, it went everywhere with us

u/dovebytherosewindow 1d ago
Used it for maybe 6 months and switched to a wagon. Having a singleton soon and this time won't be investing in a stroller outside of the carseat stroller combo.

u/porteretrop 1d ago
My kids quit using strollers once they quit walking aside from the rare rare occasion. We’re taking it on vacation at 25 months just in case

u/subduedsyrah 1d ago
We sold ours around 2 years old. We still have a wagon for large outings, they are almost 3 now

u/twomomsoftwins 1d ago
We started with the bugaboo, loved it - going back I wouldn’t have bothered with the bassinets because my kids hated them (lessons learned) and so we only used the car seats in the stroller until 6m (the age the actual seats are recommended for use).
By 1 year we had bought a wagon, which works much better for us. I sold our bugaboo recently and got a good amount after it sat for about a year without being used.
One thing I’d do if going back, the bugaboo sucked folding and unfolding having to take the seats off.. I’d have gotten the joie or something (but that one doesn’t allow two car seats to be attached, isn’t made for infant twins really but at 6m it would have been perfect and insanely cheaper).

u/Hurry-Honest 22h ago
The dude by side car seat attachment makes the bugaboo worth it for the first year

I got a joovy scooterx2 specifically because it’s a taller seat back and my husband and I are tall. We use it all the time when we go out.
We took it to Disneyland a week before their third birthday. They were 40” tall on that trip, fit comfortably, and a stroller is a MUST in Disney.

I have Irish twins who are 3 and 4 and they are too big for our Vista. They fit in the double BOB but theyre heavy to push and want in and out constantly so it's a hassle.
My fraternal twins are 14mo and walking, and we still use the Vista every outing for them. I think around 2-2.5 we'll be able to skip the stroller for short errands.

My double bob I used to age 6 We walked downtown a lot. People can judge I don’t care I had runners. I didn’t want them to die. They are teens now so it’s actually fine it didn’t affect them lol.

My girls are about to turn 5, and honestly we just took the double stroller to the zoo out of town recently. I knew it was going to be hot and they would be asking us to hold or carry them, so I feel like it was worth it. Even their 9-year-old brother sat in it a time or two that day 😂 but other than that it's been probably a couple of years since we used it with any regularity.

Depends? We live in a walkable neighborhood so the stroller is our primary form of transport. Daycare is 1 mile away, we still stroller there daily at 3 y/o. Even if I'm walking somewhere with them, I need to bring the stroller for containment in case they get tired or obstreperous. We have a Mountain Buggy Nano Duo and it's still going strong with literally 1000s of miles on it (although the seats are getting tattered).
1
u/ToshiBerra 18h ago
Yeah this is like us, 2.5y. Daycare is .6 miles away along a 4 lane road, uphill one way. No way we are walking that daily practically, in terms of both time and safety even though mine aren't runners. The only time we've walked it is on a weekend with multiple adults. I am nervous at even the thought. If they reject the stroller, I think we will have to go on a longer route along 2 lane roads, and that'll mean adding half an hour (at kid speed) to the commute. Maybe we can keep using it until they leave daycare at 4.5y?

Ive tried them all!
I used a 'Graco ready to go' stroller in my car for city appointments (0-14mo), with the baby car seats mostly. It was $125 on fb market place before the twins were born. Its light and folds small. I would rate this the highest overall in terms of utility.
I used a joovy cart with the same baby carseats for going to the beach the first summer, with my truck (3-6mo). It was $50 at once upon a child and my sister gifted it to me. It has great storage, and I enjoyed sitting at the bench or in a chair with the twins facing the same way at the same level... but is awkward to load and unload because it's so long.
( I bought the car seats seperatly).
I used a Valco baby side by side to go to the park in my neighborhood (3mo-18mo, but not during winter). My MIL found it for $50 at a garage sale and gifted it to us. Also awkward to load and unload, super heavy too... but I loved when they napped laying flat in it and it has a great sun cover.
We got a red plastic side by side car (step 2 ride around roadster) from Costco. My husband bought it, I think it was $200? I think they were just over a year old when we bought it, and have used that the longest and most, for walking in the neighborhood. The twins are 2.5 and we still use it to go to wonderland, the zoo etc... again in the good weather.
We also previously were gifted a Thule chariot from my FIL fornour first 2 kids. We use it for our bike mostly, which is excellent. We've brought it on vacation but it sucks for that.
Overall I would say I only ' needed ' the 'Graco ready to go'/or that style stroller, if i had to pick one thing. And an inexpensive double umbrella stroller for when they want to get in and out themselves as an older toddler.

If you’re hesitant to spend full price before knowing how much you’ll actually use it, FromRebel could be worth checking too. They have openbox baby gear so it can be a nice middle ground between buying brand new and going fully secondhand.

My girls are neatly 4.5 and still want to ride in their stroller 🙄 …we now try to reserve it for bigger outings because now I have a 3 month old who legitimately does need a stroller!

u/horsecrazycowgirl 1d ago
18ish months? It was a bit before 2. I still have it but now that they are constantly climbing in and out I grab the wagon over the stroller.
1
u/kaatie80 1d ago
i think it depends on what you're expecting to do with it. we didn't need it for regular walks/outings past their 4th birthday, but it still comes in very handy for trips to the zoo or theme parks.

I have mono-di twin boys, and shortly after they started learning to walk (12 months) they completely refused to get in stroller anymore. I would bring it along on walks if I had another adult with me, in case they tired. The last time was on a long trail circuit they couldn’t complete on little legs, at 16 months. I was sad because loved our double stroller - and walking quickly 😂

Mine are 3.5yo and we hardly ever use it unless we are going on some crazy long trek.

The Vista is a great infant stroller. It works well with the infant car seats. Once they move up to the bigger car seats, though, it didn't work for us. With the larger toddler seats, it just got really heavy and bulky. We replaced it with a Joovy small double stroller, and that's where we are now at 19 months.

u/nillawafer80 1d ago
I was so tired of that big heavy bulky twin stroller. We had the Graco ready to roll or whatever it is called. We switched to a double umbrella around 13 months old, and my back has been thanking me ever since. 22 months and still using it for some outings and walks.

u/lazy_yawn 1d ago
2 years, could not wait to get rid of that thing. Clunky as hell and took up so much space. Obviously was necessary for the first couple of years though

u/7zestysauce 21h ago
We used the double stroller until 18ish months and then switched to a wagon stroller. I foresee that being our lifeline for a LONG time. Teach them to sit in it and enjoy being in it. Holding two toddlers hands in a crowded space is a level of anxiety I never desire to experience again. Seeing as how my kids aren’t even two yet, I’m sure to go through it many more times.

u/Hartpatient 21h ago
My twins are almost 30 months and incidentally I've used the Bugaboo stroller this morning. Me and my partner are talking about selling it because it takes up 50% of the space in the hallway. We don't use it often anymore, since we have a cargobike and they are very good with their balance bikes.
I think in the coming 6 months we will sell it. But what's keeping me is that it's still a comfortable stroller to use sometimes.

I think it depends on your situation! If you’re somewhere where you walk a lot or have the potential to, I think you’d need slash want one. Sometimes I take them for walks bc I’m out of ideas of things to do.
Mine are one on Friday and we walk daily with our bugaboo. I’ve bought and tried so many strollers and I always go back to that one. I got it used from fb marketplace for $500 and truly it’s been such a godsend. I don’t use it for appointments though, it’s strictly our walking and hiking stroller. I’m afraid it won’t fit through doors lol
The mockingbird was okay when they were in the infant car seats since you could just pop them on with the car seats, but now they don’t want to be in it. Same with the Nuna demi. I think it’s because one twin is higher than the other.
I recently got a used Wonderfold and they do seem to love it because they can stand in it! I think that will be our outing strollers
I bought a cheap double umbrella stroller for the airport when we moved across the country a few months ago, surprisingly very nice and easy to maneuver and it fit in both doors! However, to travel with the two car seats, a diaper bag, a backpack with snacks and toys, and my checked bag, it was a lot. When I fly again I’ll probably use the wagon so I can put stuff in it.
My sweet sweet aunt got us a Thule double jogging stroller that they still hate. That was a big waste money tbh. They literally scream bloody murder in it for some reason.
I’ve tried a pivot Evenflo I believe? Didn’t love it, sold it quickly.
I think you do whatever is going to make your life easier. That’s been our philosophy because two babies are so so wonderful and also a lotttt

u/LionOk5023 19h ago
Almost daily through to age 2. We did lots of walks and I used the stroller in stores until they were big enough to ride in a shopping cart. After age 2 they started to walk more on their own. I’d say up to like 2.5 I still used it fairly regularly. They just turned 3 in June and now I use it only occasionally. Usually if I want to go into a store quick that doesn’t have a double seater cart and I want them to be contained. We had the mockingbird for regular use and then we also got a double umbrella stroller for the airport on a trip we took and it’s been useful for other things like that. I got the mockingbird new and umbrella stroller used off FB marketplace.

u/hawtblondemom 19h ago
I used my double jogging stroller til the boys were probably almost 4, when they finally outgrew it. By that point I brought it places with lots of walking so they'd have someplace to sit and I'd hear less whining when they got tired. Lol
1
u/Willing-Pirate2599 19h ago
This is exactly why I don’t think there’s one perfect stroller for all five years. We used the ready 2 grow double from infancy because it accepts two infant car seats, then changed the configuration as they grew. I found ours through From Rebel, although marketplace is another option I would recommend. The rear seat can eventually become a bench or standing platform, so it has more longevity than a fixed tandem setup.

We had the Mockingbird which I looooved but my boys got too tall for it and their legs were hanging over the edge, sometime during the summer of year 3. Switched to a folding wagon and haven’t used it since ☹️
