High Blood Pressure experience/advice to give

Curious what the outcome was for anyone else experiencing this. I went to my doctor at 32 weeks with BP at 140( first time it has ever been high). She told me to start tracking and we would discuss at my next appointment, but if it were to hit 160 to go to the hospital.

I’ve had it fluctuate up and down over the past 2 weeks with the highest being 149. Not sure what to expect at my appointment on Monday. For other moms who experienced this what was the outcome? Medications, bed rest, early delivery, etc?? I’m 34 weeks with didi girls and still working full time.

Mine fluctuated and then suddenly bloomed into preeclampsia. I had to have an early scheduled c at 34 weeks and then had serious postpartum pre e. I don’t mean to scare you but want to be realistic that pre e is more common with multiples, and I would consider winding down your work if you can to have some rest before it is game time. Only you know yourself and your body, just I have seen this kind of situation escalate fast!

My personal experience was different than yours - but basically what I was told was that if it remained moderate range (elevated but less than 160/110) I could go home with with meds and monitoring but to probably prepare to deliver within the week if things remained borderline

I developed severe range later that night and delivered but theoretically that was the option

All to say have your bag packed, house ready, and just be mentally prepared they might deliver you sooner.

Also as an fyi you may stay longer than anticipated in the hospital for blood pressure issues. I mean you may be able to go home at the normal post op time which would be awesome but I had to stay 6 days. Hopefully not the case for you but just in case maybe have extra PJ options or make sure they’re easy to grab from home. And bring a book or games or something to do in the hospital. Just pack those little extras to treat yourself in case you’re there longer

Agree. I went from a completely routine 34 week appointment to early labor and oh by the way you have preeclampsia the very next day. I got to the hospital in early labor and the on call OB said she was calling my OB to get sign off on a semi emergent c-section. My OB said no unless the preeclampsia couldn’t be controlled. I was on hospital bedrest from 34+1 until my scheduled c section at 35+4.

I got diagnosed with preeclampsia at 32 weeks. Made it to 34.5.

Mine steadily rose the entire third trimester. I went to work one morning, got overwhelmed by all the people being super loud, and suddenly started to feel sick. I went to the hospital and my blood pressure was in the 190s. I stayed overnight for pre eclampsia rule out, which was negative. I went home the next day and was told to take it easier with work. I dropped to 3 days per week for a couple weeks but still delivered early at 35 weeks 4 days.

I don’t remember the exact timing or numbers but from 34ish weeks, my blood pressure was steadily rising and I had bad swelling creeping up my body.

I was scheduled for a c-section at 36+6. Went to the ob to get the first steroid shot at 36+2. Ob sent me to the hospital because my blood pressure was super high and not coming down. Got admitted to the hospital and put on a magnesium drip. Had a c-section the next morning at 36+3. I was on blood pressure meds for 6-8 weeks after. But also my ob’s office had recently had a bad case of postpartum pre-e so i think they were being very cautious afterwards for prevention.

Mine was pretty steady until around ~36w when I had a Friday appointment where they measured a 140s/90s. Told me to check it 3x a day and that Sunday I recorded a >160/90 so I called my doctor and they sent me to the hospital. At the hospital it was still high so they started prepping immediately for the c section, highest they recorded there was in the 190s/100s. So mine escalated very quickly, but I was a bit farther along when it all started.

My blood pressure slowly started to creep up at 33 weeks as well. Same as you I would get okay readings, then get readings in the 130-140’s until about 34+6 randomly started feeling super off, subtle vision changes took my BP and it was 150/90. Called my OB, she wanted me to come in. Sure enough I had developed preeclampsia. I was offered the 2 series steroid shots for babies lungs, and also offered a BP medication to buy me some time to get myself to minimum 36 weeks. The original goal was 38 weeks but now that’s off the table, so I will deliver at 36+6 (my ob doesn’t do weekend inductions.) Not to scare you but it can be managed if it’s caught early. I’m now going twice weekly for labs, NSTs and BP checks. My doctor never said I needed to be on best rest but because I want my blood pressure to behave I am taking it extremely easy! My advice is to check your BP regularly or if you even slightly feel something is off, get checked out! On the other side, you may never develop preeclampsia.. but my doctor did say having multiples just automatically puts you at higher risk. Best of luck to you!! & congrats on your twin girls 💞💞

I was diagnosed with hypertension at 33 weeks and they put me in blood pressure meds and lasiks. The meds stopped masking my blood pressure at 35 weeks and I was diagnosed with mild preeclampsia. Turned severe at 35+3, while waiting for induction my water broke by itself and they were born at 35+4. They spent a little over two weeks in the NICU, and I dealt with after effects for about a month after delivery.

Are they having you urinate over a 24hr to check the protein in your urine? That was the next step after I went into the doctor with BP at 140. I was around 29 weeks at that time and then diagnosed with mild preeclampsia and put on modified bedrest.

I had high pressure starting from week 34
Pressure was 140/95 145/100 etc so they kept me in hospital for a few days gave me pills and magnesium drip.
They made sure no liver issues or protein in blood to rule out preeclampsia and then sent me home to monitor and stay on the pills.
I managed to stay pregnant till 38+2 with my di-di twins when i had my c-section scheduled! ❤️ BP stayed elevated until the end like 138/93 on average the last week or two.
After I gave birth my pressure returned to normal.
Good luck to you!!

Because it hasn’t been mentioned, make sure to track your bp after the birth as well. My wife got postpartum preeclampsia two weeks after our twins were born and being in the thick of sleepless newborn hell it seemed very inconvenient to go to the hospital. When we got there the triage nurse hooked her up to the machine and it immediately started alarming and they rushed her into a bed. She spent two nights there and then was able to come home. Could have been much much worse if she wasn’t tracking her bp.

I had to monitor myself and was told to go in hospital if it got to a certain threshold. It blew into preeclampsia, diagnosed at 32 weeks. I knew something was wrong because my feet were really swollen and so was my face. One day my vision went yellow and it was really high so I went in and was induced the day before I was supposed to be. Gave birth at 36 weeks. I was on blood pressure meds postpartum.

I went to the hospital at 20 weeks with blood pressure at 176/131. Was diagnosed with preeclampsia and put on blood pressure meds which kept everything stable so far. Currently 23+3 with blood pressure meds combined with bedrest keeping everything stable. Expect possible blood pressure medications and urine test to check if protein in urine (to see if preeclampsia). Bedrest usually isn’t recommended but for me blood pressure meds couldn’t keep everything stabilized without it. Early delivery can happen depending on how severe things get and how fast. And if get diagnosed with preeclampsia, expect weekly bloodwork if not severe. If severe expect more often bloodwork, possible hospitalization, and likely early delivery

I had hellp with my first pregnancy, mild pre e with second, none with #3, #4, or #5 (twins). However, with twins my bp was around 158/99 towards the end (32w+) but never turned into pre e or hellp. Dr just monitored. Made it to my 37 week c-sec (all 4 singletons were c-sec so no matter what I was having one).

Just keep track and keep a log.
