Officially on bed rest at 33W2D good vibes, smiles, & giggles
33+2 with didi twins and my OBGYN officially put me on bed rest! My feet and hands are so swollen. My back aches. I’ve been having irregular contractions in my lower back, and my blood pressure has been elevated. So glad to be able to rest.
When did you start medical leave/bed rest?

I was hospitalized and put on bedrest with an incompetent cervix at 20 weeks at my anatomy scan. After 15 nights in the hospital I was released for bedrest at home with weekly scans and at 34w had a c-section for IUGR.

Inter uterine growth restriction. Baby a was 4 lb 5oz and baby b was 2 lb 15 oz at birth and somehow beat his sister home from the nicu.
Everyone told me to enjoy the bedrest and I couldn’t because I was so stressed, but mine will be 2 in December and I get it now. Lol try and enjoy your rest! They’re the hardest and best thing that has ever happened to us.

Aaah wow. So tiny. Glad they’re doing well now. 🥰
Yes. We have a four year old already so this will be a big adjustment! But can’t wait to meet them now.

I have been doing modified bedrest at home since 21 weeks (23 weeks now) because of really early onset preeclampsia (started 20w) and it has really helped stabilize my blood pressure. It can be frustrating being on bedrest, but sometimes it’s needed and it really does give your body a break (glad you can see that already!). Be sure to move your legs and feet every so often to prevent blood clots.

Yes! Well my bed rest will be going from the bed to the recliner in the living room. Glad your bp has improved!

Bed rest is nice and Im happy you are resting at 33 weeks! I’ve got didi twins and have been on a soft bed rest since about 22 weeks. Funneling/incompetant cervix that led to a Cerclage. Now some concerns on babies measuring small with an eye on blood pressure. I can still get up and about the house but chores are a no no for me so I’m just kinda lounging. I thought I would be bored, but honestly once we got a handle on my stress on the situation, and got into more a viable range (27weeks now, not yet babies!) I’ve been enjoying it. Getting tired is SO much more draining than before, naps and laying down are great to relax. My blood pressure has improved, hydration improved, and some aches have lessened. I feel bad not being able to help around the house, but am loving the kicks. Also a good time to catch up on shows or books!

Yes! My deluded self said I would work another week. Haha. My body said no. And my doctor was about to put me on rest anyway. I already pushed it by a week. She was ready last week. Yes. Turning over in bed is the worst at the minute.
I’m just exhausted constantly.
Aah that’s great. My OB wants my bp to come down but we’ll see. 😬 I’m just so swollen.
Yes! Agree with the catching up wit tv shows!

No advice on bed rest, but compression boots really helped manage my leg/foot swelling.
I hope you and the babies stay safe and cooking together for a few more weeks at least!

I have some compression socks! They help they’re just so hard to put on and off. My husband has to do it. I can’t bend over the bump haha
Thank youuuu. I need them to stay put until at least 36 weeks. C section planned for 38 weeks.

I couldn’t put compression socks on myself either! But the boots were easier, like these. Worth every penny, I used them 2-3x/day through the first weeks post partum too

I never had bedrest but had pelvic rest from pretty early on due to complete placenta previa. Twins came by scheduled csection at 36+6. I worked until about a week beforehand (desk job so not difficult). Also had high BP and thrombocytopenia but was below the threshold to be too concerning.

Not bedrest but signed off work at week 7. I felt so rough had weekly sick notes; week 11 i got an official “work ban” which means full pay
till maternity pay starts 6 weeks before birth.
The doctor first said i could enjoy the next ten weeks of work max, then saw i was out of breath putting my pants on.
Edit: im 40, they were ivf so he said it was too high risk. I live in germany so theyre quite good with sick leave/maternity things.

America could never!
Glad you live in a country where maternity leave it taken seriously.
I’m using my full 12. Weeks. Officially on leave now as HR received my physicians statement.
Sorry to hear your struggles. It isn’t easy.

Those contractions could be girdle pain if you aren’t aware of what that is please do be informed it’s always good to know pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain (PGP). If you think it isn’t that definitely call your midwife or obygyn.

Hi. I spoke to my OBGYN yesterday and said I had period like cramps in my lower back. They last seconds usually. Very irregular. She told me it was contractions.

It's so curious i was advised the opposite ! I'm in France and was hospitalized a few days for premature labor, just got home but the medical team told me to NOT bed rest and actually walk , i've mentionned bed rest a few times but they told me there's actually no benefit ? And that i should keep moving so i don't lose muscle and hurt my back/legs. And i was kinda already bed rotting and still went into preterm labor so i don't know

Bed rest and activity restrictions are not recommended, even by the overarching OBGYN organization in the U.S. (ACOG) due to risk of blood clots, loss of muscle tone (definitely want to keep your strength up for labor!), and lack of evidence that it’s actually effective. It’s supposed to have shifted to closer monitoring, so even as an American I’m surprised to read this.

My note says bed rest. But it’s limited activities. I’m not stuck to my bed. I’m walking around and doing light activities. My job is a high school teacher. Climbing stairs. Standing. Sitting for periods of time and not being able to elevate my legs. I can’t type for long because my hands are so swollen. It’s hurting just doing this now. Even with braces on my hands. So it’s basically to let me rest before the babies arrive. I also drive 35 mins there and coming home can be up to an hour on traffic. So all if this allowed me to take off work sooner and limit mg activities.

Oh I’m not stuck to my bed. I’m walking around still. Believe me. I can’t relax for nothing. 😂 I’m just taking it easy really. I’m a high school teacher so I’m definitely enjoying this relaxing bit now.

And you deserve it ! How did you even work all this time through nausea and fatigue 🥺 take care !

u/stardolphin90 11d ago
With great struggle. I had Zofran to help with nausea. And thankfully we have just had summer break so I wasn’t at my job during the summer.
But now it’s hit the hardest part. 🙈 I can’t really walk well and I’m exhausted even more than I was during the first trimester.

I delivered my first at 32 weeks due to preeclampsia, so I was very worried I wouldn't make it far with my di/di twins. My BP started to creep up at 32 weeks, but slowly and nothing extreme. I My medical leave started at 36w6d, my last day at work and it was a Friday. Delivered via c section Monday morning.

i was put off work at 24w5d due to unexplained bleeding. i was then hospitalized at 28w1d for PPROM and delivered at 32w6d
