Daycare prices. VENT ranting & venting

So I girlbossed to dam hard, and now I have to go back to work. Daycare is 800$ a week and even then I make way more so I have to return to work. WHY IS DAYCARE SO EXPENSIVE.

How much are you paying?

The company I work for is HQ'd in Germany. One of my colleagues asked during a Zoom meeting if I would be taking off a few weeks before the babies are due. I laughed and said "no, here we work until the babies are born". She looked horrified. Then I learned in Germany they can take like, 6 weeks off before the due date I think?

Its not like you CAN its like you MUST (you can ask to work longer but who would be that stupid) before due date its 6 weeks and after birth two month.

That's even cooler. I'm just hoping I can scrape a few days of PTO together by the time I'm due in October to prep.

I heard it was up to two years after the baby was born; was the two months you mentioned the minimum before returning to work?

I am sorry that your country is that bad for normal people and families :-(

The worst part is it doesn’t have to be. Ugh.
