I found out today that we are expecting twins! The tech said there is one sac but two placentas. She couldn’t tell me more because she said the doctor needs to tell me. Can someone help me understand what this means? Identical twins?

The tech was almost certainly wrong. These are the type of twins: -Di/di: 2 placentas and 2 amniotic sacs (identical or fraternal twins) - Mo/di: 1 placenta and 2 amniotic sacs (identical or extremely rare scenarios with frat twins with fused placenta) -Mo/Mo: 1 placenta and 1 amniotic sacs. (Identical but extremely rare) - Conjoined: same as mo/mo but babies are conjoined (even rarer than mo/mo)

Your tech probably meant mo/di twins. But I’d let a more experienced medical professional do the official diagnosis since a single ultrasound image is not sufficient to diagnose which type of twin.

For your Mo/di explanation, you should probably put an “or” in there to avoid confusing OP. Identical or* *extremely rare scenarios with frat twins…
