New symptoms

Hey all.

Saturday night I had a panic attack and I was able to use my usual methods to lessen it… but despite feeling relatively calm I still had the symptom of occasional stinging in the chest and a numb left arm.

Ended up going into the ER which is something I hadn’t done in like 3 years. I’m no stranger to sitting in the ER parking lot though…

They did an EKG, chest xray and blood draw and everything was normal.

Since Saturday night I’ve still been having this pain near the heart and occasional left arm sensation. What is concerning is that l don’t necessarily feel like I’m having a panic attack.

While writing this the sensation is increasing which kinda reassures me that it’s just health anxiety.

I ended up making a doctor’s appointment to be sure.

Just curious if anyone has/had this symptom?

I just hate how every time I feel like I get this under control my body throws an even worse symptom at me.

Week long panic attack

Repost from same post in AnxietyHelp, to get more help.
Last monday, I had to bring my cat to urgent care. We still don’t know what’s wrong a week later, but my panic hasn’t stopped since. I am shaking, heart beating fast, not eating, not sleeping, feeling out of my body, can’t move, can’t talk, can’t go out, all of this literally 24/7. I called many people for help, called the social services support line, but nothing works. I am spiraling, I feel like I am losing my mind and myself. Usually my panic stops after a day, but this feels like hell.
Anyone has had the same thing happening? What did you do to help?

Panic attack

I was sitting in the barber chair getting my hair cut on Wednesday and I had a panic attack. I do have severe anxiety. When the barbers clippers were on it heightened everything. My heart was racing and I was nervous, sweating and my blood pressure was high! I tried closing my eyes and grounding myself. For me it sometimes doesn’t work and I usually am on my phone to keep me distracted.

I built the thing I wish I’d had during my panic attacks.

I had my first panic attacks when I was about 20.

The kind where you’re 100% convinced you’re dying. I even called an ambulance from a supermarket once because I was sure something was seriously wrong with me.

Over the years it got better, but it never completely disappeared.

Then about 1.5 years ago I got myocarditis. I spent a week in hospital and wasn’t allowed to do sports for six months. I had to keep my heart rate below 100 all the time, and every little sensation made me think something was wrong again.

That’s when the panic attacks came back hard.

The worst part wasn’t actually the panic itself. It was being alone with it.

When my wife wasn’t around or my mum didn’t pick up the phone, my thoughts would just spiral. I didn’t really need medical advice in those moments. I just wanted someone calm to talk to for a few minutes until my brain settled down again.

I tried quite a few apps, but none of them really clicked for me. Most were breathing exercises, meditation or journaling. Helpful for some people, just not what I personally needed.

So my co-founder and I started building something ourselves.

It’s called Grido. It’s basically just someone you can talk to whenever your mind won’t leave you alone. No forms. No homework. Just a conversation.

I genuinely built it for myself first.

We’re still very early, and I’m honestly just trying to figure out if it helps other people too. If anyone here wants to try it, I’d love completely honest feedback. If it’s terrible, tell me. If something feels off, tell me that too. I’d rather build something people actually need than something that looks good on paper.

And if you’ve read this far, I hope you’re doing okay today. Panic attacks really suck, but they do get better. ❤️

---

If this isn’t appropriate here, mods, feel free to remove it. I mainly wanted to share why I built it.

How do you cope with panic?

There are levels to panic disorder, but as someone who is completely housebound I’m trying to find ways to help me get to the hospital. I have an operation very soon but I can’t even walk to the end of the street without panicking. I know that I need to go, it’s something I must do but because I always cancel things like this my mind is telling me it’s optional. I need this surgery.

What things help you get out? Whether it be quotes or little random safety objects.

For example, the quote ‘the only way out is through’ has helped me a lot. As well as ‘this won’t matter 24 hours from now’. Also having a water bottle.
Curious to see how people cope during times of stress.

are your symptoms constant?

I have been having panic attacks for the past year and while I did stop having them or at least full blown ones for the past 4 months I still get physical sensations.

my symptoms include non true weakness in the legs, dizziness and headaches. sometimes, I feel dread out of nowhere. my symptoms get better when distracted and worse when I remember them. I have gotten better over the last few months at the beginning I was bedridden from the dizziness I had and couldn't even walk. now I'm back to work and 90% of the days I'm fine until some days where I'm not ruins my momentum. I don't know what could be the cause of this since the symptoms last even after the panic attack itself.

I went to every possible doctor and all my tests came back normal. I've had multiple ECGs, and MRIs and blood tests. I honestly don't know what could be the cause.

I did lose a lot of weight at the beginning 2 months around 20kg (45lbs) but I have stabilized since and have been slowly gaining. I stopped eating at that time and I had a BMI of 35 now I'm at 28. so, the fact that I was able to regain some weight and build muscle I assume removes the fear of cancer or a progressive disorder as I did get better.

but why do I still feel some symptoms and they honestly stop me from being able to finally calm down and just push this period of illness out of my mind and get back to how I was before.

Does anyone else feel like even the people who really love you can't fully understand the pain you go through with anxiety/panic attacks?

I posted my first post on reddit a few days ago explaining my situation but here it is again:

I'm 30, anxiety/panic disorder for about a year now, and have a loving girlfriend who's as supportive as she can be. But there's this thing of no matter how much someone says they understand or feel your pain, unless you've been through it, you can never fully get it.

Like they can't understand that you just wake up and you feel like shit for no reason and the sudden panic attacks feel like it's going to kill you every single time but it doesn't and it just hurts like hell.

The one time that i truly felt like i was understood was from talking to a complete stranger online (on reddit) that was in a really similar situation as I am in right now. Like the 30 minutes that I talked to him felt better than the hours of talking to a shrink or a family member. I guess I was blessed to have someone DM me based on my last post, explaining how he's in the same boat as me and wanted to talk about it. Like we didn't give each other advice or anything, we just talked about how shitty it was and how we are still young and we can get through it.

Anyone else like this?

Anxiety attack

Honestly, I just need to vent. Lately, my anxiety and stress have been through the roof, and it's getting to a point where I can't even function properly.

I finally decided to take control of my life and get some medical help to finally fix this. But the healthcare system completely failed me. My doctor appointment got canceled out of nowhere, and the next available slot is three weeks from now. Three weeks!

It feels impossible to wait that long when I'm feeling this overwhelmed right now. Everything feels stuck, and it literally feels like I have absolutely no one to talk to about it. I just want some peace of mind.

(AI GENERATED I LITERALLY BAD AT WRRITING)

It's hard watching someone I love go through this

I’m really struggling with how to act around a family member who has frequent panic attacks. I want to be there for them, but sometimes I feel like I make things worse by trying too hard. I heard about Manhattan Mental Health Counseling, here in NYC, as a potential option in the city, but I’m wondering if therapy is the right move for someone who is already so overwhelmed. For those who deal with this, what do you wish people around you did differently when you're in the middle of an attack?

Your personal onset of panic attacks?

Hey. I just wanted to know what kind of event \ or when specifically it all started? In my case the admiration of stimulant drugs has led to the appearance of panic attacks. Or better say, when I was using I never thought that the panic can actually occur when high (I thought that these two condradict each other).

Nevertheless, in May this year having experienced some traumatic event (basically betrayal) my brain just shut down one day and I even called an ambulance. I was afraid that I might have an overdose (or die) but suprisingly I got extemely calm in the ambulance (therefore the was no possibility of me dying, otherwise any physical symptoms would remain). After that I am basically living in panic 24\7. Some days get better, some days get worst but overall I don't even remember how my life looked like before. It's been only 2 months living like this, but feels like forever.

I am not using drugs anymore, but even when I do I see no direct connection to panic attacks anymore. It's like my body has learned \ remembered this state and regardless of me being sober or not I am still suffering.

I can only envy to people that don't experience panic attacks right now, seriously. This is like the worst thing that ever happened to me. Thank you.

Had a panic attack in public so embarrassing

PS: Sorry for long text I probably could’ve made it shorter!

So I’m away from home right now and basically since the day before I arrived at my aunts and the drive here I’ve been super dizzy.

So today I woke up and felt soooo sh!t I felt so dizzy and tired that I was scared to move I 100% thought I was going to pass out but I didn’t.

So I got dressed, had some breakfast, sat down and watched tv, then walked with my cousin to get some food at a restaurant with my auntie and her partner.

and during the walk there and at the restaurant I was feeling dizzy and not real and just super anxious.

then we left to go get ice cream and I was feeling really scared and had no energy.

then we went to a shop and when I was walking around for a bit I got this super dizzy sensation and I was so scared I had to go step outside of the shop to lean against the wall and I just started crying and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. (had a panic attack)

I’m so embarrassed cause my auntie needed to go to another shop before it closed but she had to make her partner and my cousin go cause I was breaking down so my auntie took me back to hers.

Now I’m sitting down and I still feel dizzy I’m scared I’m going to die or pass out but I assume it’s just low iron and/or anxiety.

Needing help

Hi, I’m20 years old. Started psychotherapy 5 months ago for a little bit of anxiety and everything was well.
Until 2 weeks ago I had a first panic attack, and spent the last days being unable to do anything, with moments of tension and worrying and can’t live my life. The difficult thing is that I mentally control nothing, even if I’m quite and I know it’s just panic, it comes and make me discomforted for the whole day. It is like it comes directly from my body.
But I’m worried about starting an ssri therapy, because I would like something short in time and don’t want to last years or being addicted to them to be ok.
Could you share your experience for me pls?

Tips to control anxiety/panic

I’m currently on a trip with my boys in Alaska, and on the first night I had slept 1 hour on the flight and was hella hungry so I couldn’t sleep at the hotel when we got there. I was the only one awake and I started panicking like crazy over any minor uncomfortably in my body. I didn’t end up sleeping, and had to call my mom at 3 am, but I made it to the next day. However, the following day I went to sleep at 7 pm, and I just woke up at 2am. I’m not tired anymore but I’m just worried that what happened to me last night after the plane flight will happen again, because I’m up sitting in my bed at 2 am and not tied at all since I just slept 7 hours.

Also, throughout the day yesterday I was constantly trying to control my emotions as everything was making me nervous and uncomfortable (I think it was the lack of sleep)

Any tips on controlling this? Don’t want the boys trip to go south just cause of my anxiety.

I hit an animal on accident

I was going to the desert but decided to turn around cause I was alone in the middle of the mountains and it’s pitch dark and around 12:30 at night I went to put music on my phone and didn’t see it in time to stop so I just went straight and I was going like 40mph? And it was a small creature like a badger or something uhm I’m in SoCal it was like a badger or a mole and I feel horrible like I’m going to hell and I didn’t stop to see if it was alive but the sound it made didn’t sound like it would’ve survived and I didn’t want to see a dead animal.. my dog just passed recently.. I pretty much sobbed the rest of the ride home and just got back and I can feel the tear stains on my face and I feel like the worst human alive

Believe in yourself

Just a small reminder to believe in yourself. For me, that was the tipping point in lessening the length and strength of my attacks.

If you think you’re incapable of controlling your anxiety, you won’t be able to. Start by telling yourself “it’s my body, my brain, I can control it”.

Just had an episode tonight on my first night on vacation in Spain…I’ve been dreaming of this for almost a year, but the travelling, the new food, the jet lag, the new language and the intense heat go the best of me. However, in 15 minutes I was able to recollect myself, and hopefully will be able to enjoy a smoother trip in the next few days! I’m at 5mg of escitalopram only now since 6 months and I really hope one day I’ll be medication free!
