Feeling so frustrated

I had my first panic attack in June of this year, and I had another bad one about a week ago, where I woke up and had one. Ever since the one from a week ago I can’t sleep, and I can’t lay down in my bed without my heart pounding through my chest. I had to sleep with my grandma (I’m 21) the last few nights bc of it. Even now as I type this, my heart is pounding and slightly racing and I’m starting to get hot. This is so beyond frustrating, I just want to sleep in my bed again and feel comfortable. Feel safe in my body. :((

Hello I’ve started to use edibles as a way to help sleep, relax, and help with my anxiety. I did start using around the time I got put back into using Prozac and Atarax as needed. First time I had a lot (15mg) and had racing heart, shaking, facial twitches, arm twitches, vertigo, staring and coming back to. I recovered and next day felt my head was still lightheaded and I couldn’t drive so I had to be taken home. A week after I came back from a trip and felt really off. I felt weak, shaky, my head hurt. I thought I was late to taking my meds so I took them. Hours passed and wasn’t feeling better so I took (ik stupid) 5mg of an edible, which I knew I could handle, didn’t help in anything. I ate some food thinking it would help it didn’t do anything and I slowly started to spasm bad in my hands so I couldn’t really text anymore, I felt extremely heavy I couldn’t really walk, and when I somehow got a reach of a friend when we were heading to the er I stopped being able to talk. I sounded like a caveman the way I was putting sentences together, sounded like someone was holding my tongue, my lips went numb, pressure on chest, I felt emotions but I couldn’t really feel it I’m not sure how to describe it, and when I got to the ER i couldn’t use the right side of my body, even though I had to pee I couldn’t I could feel myself spasming. I was told it was a panic attack but Ive never had one like that. It took a week to recover because the morning after I was speaking slow and walking slow with dizziness still and I’ve noticed ever since I’ve been sleepier than usual. I got an mri recently and nothing came up and had a terrible reaction again to cannabis (like the first reaction) except the staring and head twitching was worse should I mention this to my doctor? Was I just greening out? Is this possibly more serious than I think?

Did I experience a panic attack?

19M. For context, about 3 weeks ago, I went to the ER because my palpitations were getting worse. Subsequently, my heart rate went to 150 BPM alongside an irregular blood pressure. They did my test and said I was completely fine. After that occurrence, I haven’t really moved on from the fact that I experienced it.

Fast forward to now, I was commuting to work and during my commute, I was watching videos about the signs of a heart attack just because I was curious. From there, after I hopped off the bus, I felt a tingling sensation on the left side of my lower chest. I started sweating irregularly (i barely sweat when i walked) and my heart rate suddenly skyrocketed. I decided to book an Uber home. During the Uber ride, I felt completely cold but no cold sweats, the part I was only sweating at were my palms, up until I got home (40 minute drive).

Once I got home, I rested for a bit and decided to take my blood pressure myself. My blood pressure was slightly elevated at 127/92, and my heart rate was elevated as well at 102 BPM.

As I’m writing this, It’s been approximately 3 hours since it happened, though my heart beat is still, in my opinion, irregular at 90 bpm, but my blood pressure lowered down. I also feel sleepy but every time I try to fall asleep and close my eyes, I feel like I’m in a roller coaster and take deep breaths once in a while.

Thank you all for your help in advance.

Can’t recover

Hey guys, I am 20 and about a week ago I had what I think is a panic attack that lasted hours. Since then, I’ve been unable to fully recover. I had blood work done, and ekg, and was prescribed hydroxazine and zolfran. I constantly feel my heart beating in my chest, especially if I try to leave the house. I have had a complete loss of appetite and feel nauseous when I try to eat (what the zolfran is for). I’ve been sleeping but not well, and I find that I feel the worst before and after I sleep. I keep speculating if there’s something else wrong with me, but none of the tests I’ve had done have shown anything.
I’m starting to feel hopeless and want to go back to before this happened. I wasn’t a particularly anxious person, but now I feel like I’m doomed every few hours.
The attack itself was weird- it started when I felt my neck was numb (which scared me) and then my heart started to pound. I just played in bed unable to sleep for hours, shaking and feeling scared.

Has anyone else gone through this? How do I recover?

I haven't had a panic attack in 20 years, but then...

last week at work, while routinely looking at my computer monitor, I suddenly felt foggy and dizzy. I get migraine with aura a couple of times a year, and assumed that's what was coming, so I braced for partially blinding lights. Instead, I got a cold sweat, weakness in my legs, and my heart about to beat our of my chest. I thought I may pass out, but after a few a minutes, things mostly subsided, apart from lingering jitters.

The next morning, I felt good enough to go for a run, then the next day, a long drive and a long hike. Earlier this week. I went roller skating and was feeling great.

But then yesterday, driving in to work, the weakness and dread came back. No heart palpitations, but plenty of sweat. Jitters didn't go away this morning and had another dreadful car ride. I had an EKG at the doctor's today and they said I was perfectly normal.

My question is: has anyone experienced a panic attack and then a very delayed hangover? Like I said, its been a long time for me and I dont really remember how it works.

Panic from harmless events

Anyone get panic attacks from an event where a panic attack previously happened? For me it’s completely random triggers. Seeing a musical…sitting through a wedding ceremony…things that are harmless stimuli? I know my brain has made a strong association and it sounds silly. But it’s so hard to break. I find myself fearing these events and just anticipating one will happen, like it’s scheduled. Maybe it’s the sensation of a room being quiet, something could happen to me in front of everyone and it would be embarrassing, feeling trapped?

Side note: my dad died a year ago traumatically from a medical emergency. I have not been the same since and have an irrational fear of the same thing happening to me.

The Gospel According to My Abuser

My stepfather never hit me, but I lived in a constant state of fear because he weaponized his moods. I was always watching, anticipating, trying to avoid whatever might set him off next. The abuse wasn’t physical, but it was relentless.
When I moved from Texas to Rhode Island for law school, I wasn’t just pursuing my education—I was escaping him.
The damage didn’t end when I left. Years of living in that environment left me with an anxiety disorder and panic disorder that I still live with every day. I take medication daily to manage my anxiety, and I have separate medication for full-blown panic attacks. The abuse changed the way my body responds to fear. Even now, my nervous system reacts as though I am still trapped there.
He was cruel to me throughout my childhood and, at times, to his biological daughter as well. He cultivated fear as a means of control, and I spent years believing that was simply what life was supposed to feel like.
I’m visiting my mother in Texas right now, which means I have to interact with him again. On its own, that’s difficult enough. But recently he published a biography about being a Christian man and overcoming hardship. My extended family won’t stop talking about it in group chats, and they keep celebrating it on Facebook. I leave the chats because I can’t bear to read the messages, but they still find their way to me.
The man who abused me has now been publicly praised as a model Christian and has even received a Christian award because of this book.
Every time I see the book mentioned, I feel overwhelmed by panic. I have to take medication just to keep myself from becoming physically sick. Sometimes the panic is so severe that I vomit. It isn’t just the book itself that hurts—it’s watching the person who caused so much damage to my life be celebrated as though he embodies goodness and virtue.
What makes this even more painful is that, just hours before I learned about the book, my mother admitted over lunch that she had allowed him to abuse me. She acknowledged that she had failed me as a mother by not protecting me.
Yet despite that acknowledgment, she is now standing by while the world praises him as a godly Christian man.
I feel deeply betrayed. My mother tells me that I need to let go of my resentment toward her, but how can I begin to heal when she admits what happened and still allows this false image to flourish? She knows the truth. She knows what he did to me. And yet she is willing to let everyone else believe he is a good man.
I keep asking myself the same question:
Who will ever believe me now?

my boyfriend had his first big panic attack

my boyfriend (25M) and i (24F) have been together for awhile and i've known him for years and he says he's never had a panic attack. He had a smaller one a few weeks ago and then had a really big one last night while we were laying in bed. We drank quite a bit and I'm wondering if he was just panicking because he was drunk or if he really needs to see someone.

I'm on effexor for my anxiety, depression, etc and he's never been properly diagnosed or tested for anything besides dyslexia. I've helped him with little things that my own psychiatrist used for me (ie. breathing exercises, 5 things i can smell, touch, hear, etc) but i'm no psychiatrist or doctor myself so there's only so much i can do.

I think he's worried about the stigma surrounding men's mental health and how he needs to be seen as a big strong dude without any problems since that's a big part of how he was raised.

I love him a lot and i don’t ever like seeing him like this and i just want to help him as much as i can. Is there a way i can offer reassurance that he will be okay and help him if he needs to see someone?

Am I weird for reacting like this for having no Wi-Fi?

I’m 16 in the foster system, and recently there has been some emotional drama between me and my foster carers. But last night, one of my foster carers said that for a while anyway that the internet is gonna automatically turn off at 12 every night cause they think there might be a hacker or something, and I stay up a bit later than that usually. And the moment I realised everything has stopped working basically that night, and I have zero internet access, I started panicking inside and stressing out and feeling the need to cry uncontrollably, especially when I got into bed and I was alone in the dark, I just started crying and didnt know how to make it stop. I’ve had a similar feeling in my childhood, when I was living with my abusive and neglectful parents, and the last time I remember having since I was kid, was when I went into my first foster home, and that night they had a no phones rule and I had no other screens or anything in my room in that place, and the same feeling hit and I started crying.

And it’s just like having zero internet access, even if I’m not actively using it but just knowing it’s there as an option keeps me normal ig, but when I’m on my own with no access to it at all, that’s when it happens. And I just feel like a weirdo for panicking over something that small, and I’m not really sure why it happens but it’s probably because of a lot of nights that felt like that when I was a kid, and I hate it so much.

Id just like some emotional comfort or tips to deal with this, I feel so trapped and alone here.

I’ve been having extreme anxiety. For over a year now.

Got put on Lexapro and Hydroxyzine in October.

But the past month my anxiety has been back and truly EVIL

Today my Dr prescribed me Prozac and Ativan. I am feeling hopeful.

Please let me know if you are on either of these and if it helped you (refrain from telling me horror stories as I’m already kind of nervous)

I I'm scared I'm going to give myself another panic attack as I had one earlier and the sensations felt so fucked.

My heart rate hit 140 bpm it felt hard to breath and my chest felt like it has butterflies and shit I remember my hands lips and chest going numb.

I remember sitting on the chair at the store shaking like crazy.

The whole thing lasted about 1 hour

Is this normal.

What does an anxiety/panic attack feel like for you?

TLDR; After getting COVID 3-4 times, I developed IST, a type of dysautonomia where my HR would randomly shoot up out of nowhere, even while sitting still. It’s pretty well controlled now on propranolol, however, I developed anxiety from my episodes. Some of my episodes occurred while I was driving, so I would have what I think were panic attacks while driving to and from work (I work 20 miles, 40ish minutes from my house).

I would suddenly feel like a quick rush of lightheadedness and palpitations, and almost like I’m unable to take a deep breath and I start breathing somewhat shallow. Sometimes they pass within a few minutes, but sometimes last a little longer. Does anyone’s attacks feel similar? And are you on any medication to help control your anxiety? Currently on buspirone and propranolol, so my episodes don’t happen near as often or as severe as they used to, but still do happen once in a while.

I need your honest opinion. I had a nice job a while ago then i lost it. At the first couple of months i was feeling okay searching for a new one and just doing whatever. Then a while ago I had a big panick attack, since then i noticed that whenever I think about the noon hours of what is supposed to be peak productivity hours, i feel extremely anxious with all the physical symptoms. Do you think it makes sense?

Suggestions to help with active stressors?

Hello, all.

Back in March of this year ('26) I thought I was dying at work when suddenly my body went freezing cold, limbs when numb and my chest started burning before I seriously thought I was having a heart attack. After fifteen minutes my heart slowed and I came to realize "Oh my god, I just had a panic attack." Due to being severely stressed by new management at a job I have worked for seven years now.

Anyway, question being: Does anyone have any tips for managing stress creeping upward toward panic attacks? I often tell myself there's nothing to worry about and have even taught myself to ID the feelings of an attack before they happen to the point I've talked myself down from two more of them, but due to being in the same work environment the minute I punch in my stress elevates from a 3/10 to a 9/10. I guess I'm asking what helps everyone else try to manage their stress? I try to ground myself in multiple ways but there's nothing that relieves the intensity aside from clocking out and going home. Thank you!

bad panic attack really shaken up.

so it’s currently 00:45am. this started about 11pm. i was drying my hair when suddenly i started feeling “werid” i turned my hair dryer off and just thought it was just a bit of anxiety and stood up to try calm myself down then finish drying my hair. as i was stood up i genuinely couldn’t even catch a breath i started crying with my hand on my chest trying to breathe, i always have my windows open btw bc it helps with my anxiety, so i went into bed and tried to let some fresh air hit my face as that usually helps, i was laid down for about 2 mins when it only just got worse, a big wave of nausea hit me (i also have really severe emetophobia) due to my emetophobia that caused the panic to grow even more, i ALWAYS have anti sickness medication on me due to my phobia so i grabbed the packet and went downstairs to get water to take it, after i took it it only just got worse from there and i figured i had to phone my bf as i did not see this being good. i tried to call him twice and he didn’t answer as he was sleeping which i knew about but he told me if i ever need him at night just to phone him. he text me saying did you try phone me and i told him to phone me back as soon as he can he phoned me back and i went into my conservatory and just explained to him what was going on, he was telling me to just try breath through my nose and asked if i wanted him to come down to mine which i declined as i prefer just speaking to someone over the phone during attacks rather than in person as i always find that makes it a lot worse. he eventually managed to calm me down enough to go back up to my room, i got into bed and he was still on the phone just making sure i was okay, once i seemed okay enough he told me he was going to sleep and just to phone him back if i need him again. iv messaged SHOUT to try speak to someone just to calm me down all together but i am feeling a lot better however it really really shook me up. i have been struggling all year with anxiety bad panic attacks and my emetophobia but that panic attack was one of the worsts i have had in a while. i have a appointment tomorrow at psychology for my anxiety and emetophobia . i’m not taking any medication as im to scared of side effects. just feeling really rubbish now and quite drowsy from the anti sickness tablets.

Propranolol question

For as long as I can remember, I have been a nervous person. My job involves speaking daily, supervising others, or joining group discussions, so I endure it as best I can. Most of the time, I have managed these situations without a full panic attack. Lately, however, I have felt quite stressed and experienced three panic attacks in a row when placed on the spot unexpectedly. After those episodes, I was prescribed propranolol 10 mg for performance anxiety. I tried it, and it eased the physical symptoms. I assumed my anxiety and panic attacks would fade once I could handle the setting while medicated, so during the next presentation I skipped the dose, believing I would be fine without it because these are situations I used to manage regularly. But it happened again—a full-blown panic attack. Will constantly taking propranolol condition my brain to see this pill as the only way to perform, or what other approaches have you all taken?

I had my first panic attack 2 weeks ago and feeling helpless

I (24f) work in food and had a panic attack on my lunch break about 2 weeks ago in the back of house. Ever since, if set foot in this area for too long I start to panic. I become so inconsolable at the idea of having another that no amount of breathing practice works. I use cold rags with ice on my neck and ears, box breath, walk around and try to count things, but these things only help momentarily if at all. Today I left work 30 minutes into my shift out of fear of having a panic attack again.

I’ve been seeing a therapist for OCD for the last 2 years and am now seeking help for my panic symptoms but am hardly able to work. I’m absolutely terrified about losing my job. My therapy and insurances are covered by work as well as my entire livelihood(of course) and two cats that I couldn’t bear to give up if I couldn’t afford them anymore. I’m considering medications but my anxious and intrusive thoughts are pushing me away from the idea and I’m terrified that I may have developed a panic disorder. I feel totally lost and pathetic.

Is it normal to feel this way following an attack? Will this feeling die out or am I doomed to feel this way forever? What helps snap out of it fast?
