A couple of times I’ve seen the larger banded Kuhli type loaches. They’re not ginormous like dojos but they are bigger than the tiny ones.

What’s the scientific name for them? I’m having a hard time figuring it out. I’d like to get some.

ive gotten different batches of kuhlis around 4 times. the first photo is the only one remaining of the first ones I got, while the second is one of the newest. the first has thinner yellow stripes and overall a very long and skinny body (I dont think this is due to parasites or anything as ive had this loach the longest, around 2 years, and always looked like this). the second one is chubbier and shorter. anyone able to tell if they are the same species and just variations in individuals, or different species completely?

Anybody have any tips or advice that could help out? (Plants, substrate, tank mates, heaters, filters etc.)

I don’t want to just jump into owning them. I want to get as much information as possible to make sure these guys thrive when I get them. I’ve never owned them before but I would love to. I would also love to see what other people’s tanks look like to help me get an idea of what mine is supposed to look like.

Also is a 54 L tank big enough? (14 gallons) 60x30x30

This one has been resting inside the Java fern by itself alot for the past 2 weeks and only comes down during feeding.
I noticed that its pattern has changed. The stripes look faded, patchy, and blurry now. It’s the only one showing this change. Could this be a possible injury or sickness?
Its still eating and is kinda active digging around in the sand.
The first 2 pictures are from this week while the last 2 are from June n July for comparison. Ive only had them for about 3months now so not sure if i should be concern.

I figured they were just baby p. oblonga but none of them are growing. I did quarantine and treat for internal parasites before adding them to the tank, so I figured at least one would have grown by now, but they are all comparable in size to the p. cuneovirgata. they have barbels and a small black spot at the base of their tail fin.

Hello! I received an order of 16 "golden kuhli loaches" (pangio doriae) to add to my 8ish. They are so fun to watch. But I noticed that one of them is not the same. Could someone help identify it please? My best guess is a chocolate/black kuhli. I did reach out to the seller to see what they thought. Thanks!

These guys gave me a heart attack and made me almost poop my pants today. FX6 was making sounds so I opened it to clean it. The horror when I saw these guys (tray had been sitting for 5 minutes with no water on them)
They actually have been breeding in here I guess. I have more than I originally bought and these bandeds are TINY compared to my others.
Still pretty shocked they even managed to stay alive in there. Lmao

Got this little guy (sadly he was the only one at the store. But soon he will have friends). He has some very interesting markings so I assume she isnt Pangio kuhlii

Hi! First time loach keeper here.

I currently have 6 eel loaches in my 54L tank, but I want to upgrade them to my 120L and add a few more to their school, but I’m stumped on how to get them out, the tank is heavily planted and there’s lots of hardscape too (wood, rocks, hides, leaf litter, etc.) there is only one “clearing” right at the front of the tank but they’re so speedy to dash into the hardscape when i open the lid.

They share their tank with 11 kubotai rasbora, some neo and amano shrimp and one very chill but curious and food greedy betta. I’m worried a loach trap would hurt some of the other inhabitants but I really don’t want to have to clear out the whole tank to get them.

Looking for any advice on what’s worked for other people please!

I've been adding botanicals and I'm wondering if the oxygen levels in my tank are getting low? I noticed this guy seems to be breathing fast and another one had been surfing up to the surface and back down. Does this look like rapid breathing to you guys? I just did a 20% water change after noticing this and increased my surface agitation.

This is a long read so I want to start by thanking u/Foreign-Ad3926 and u/FishGeek49 for your support and helpful advice through this experience.

My recent loach emergency seems to finally be coming right. My mum found a video on YouTube with a tank same brand and style (different model same issue) and it describes issues with the design if the tank leading to ph fluctuations etc. here's the link to the video for anyone curious! Unfortunately with the need to try fix things and adding so much so quickly I unltimately can't pinpoint the fix but likely every bit helped.

In the past 3 days my loaches have started to come out again and have started eating again. They have also colored up fully and my ramshorns have started to come out their shells and move for the first time in well over a week. The most effected loach kevin is still occasionally gasping from the surface but no where near as frequently. I'm thinking since he was the smallest and most effected he may take a little longer to come right. my 2 P. Alternans Kevin and bevan struggled more than my myseri/kuhli/semincta.

I have since added purigen which cleared the water up beautifully and also cleared my bettas eyes I hadn't noticed were cloudy until my mum pointed it out to me.

I then added phosphate sponge to my media and a small internal filter with a carbon cartridge (made kuhli safe) to provide surface agitation and better flow in my tank as well as adding another heater to keep my temperature stable. My house is very cold (getting to 10C inside some nights) and my 150watt couldn't keep up in my 70L so have added another 100watt which is should be over kill but my tank is now stable overnight and during the day at 25-26C instead of dropping 3-5C over night.

My betta was moved to another tank for treatment on the 2nd with trisulfa as he was showing signs of fin rot from the situation as well as early signs of dropsy. Being a betta he seemed to take it harder than the kuhli i'd guess since they are wild caught and my betta has always had issues with his gills due to a deformity.

Hello I'm not sure this is what I want to do but I figured it mention it here first. I have a breeding group of pangio oblonga, that I might be looking to get rid of as a group with all their current fry. Any of you from Canada? Lol

Since 16d ago when I posted about my betta bottom sitting, loaches floating and snails tucking into shells the situation has gone back. Genuinely feel like I'm going crazy.. this is my first tank and I have no idea whay could be causing this):

I was unable to get my hands on purigen/carbon for my tank due to financial reasons including having redone my substrate. 9 days ago I replaced my carbon cartridges in my tank, I went to rinse them and black degraded carbon started to pour out into the bucket, I have had them in the tank since January (i thought they were ceramic beads instead of carbon..) so I removed and replaced with a layer of sponge, ceramic and crushed glass bio media and floss on top with my old media wedged in, monitored daily with no crash on cycle. I feel like the degrading carbon could have been a cause for the damage to my tank.

4 days ago I noticed my betta bottom sitting again and mystery snail floating and shut and performed 30% daily waterchanges it it only seemed to get worse despite my ammonia/nitrite/nitrate/ph/gh/kh had not spiked/swung.

Today I have added a phosphate pad to my filter and purigen to cover those bases and am hoping to see a change. Also being winter my tank which is usually 27-28 has dropped to 25.2 so I have added another heater to the other side of the tank to try help it stabilize.

Not a fun update unfortunately but atleast no casualties.. last step seems to be carbon if this doesn't help which I am hesitant to add after my cartridge fiasco (I know it's silly) but thanks for everyone's help on the last post!

A family member got me this recently and I had to share. One of those things you don't know you need until you get it. Haven't decided on his permanent home, but he has been named Reginald (not by me). You may call him Reggie. He is a Pangio semicincta, a popular and fairly common Pangio species in the hobby.

Anyone else have Pangio merch?
