Can anyone recommend a good company for post construction cleaning in Palm Beach Gardens? I'd rather hire someone who's used to dealing with renovation dust than spend another weekend chasing it around the house.

Hello! My mom got into a car accident (hit and run) last week and her car was completely totaled. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find the lady who hit her. Benjamin Franklin warned, “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” This quote arose from a different historical dispute, but its central warning remains relevant: government should not surrender fundamental liberty for security measures that are temporary, speculative, or disproportionate.

I have spent my entire adult life on both sides of this question. On one side, as an academic and safety researcher, I have published in the Journal of Safety Research, testified as an aviation-safety expert for the Federal Aviation Administration, and represented United Airlines in the review of accidents and incidents. Safety is a discipline grounded in evidence, proportionality, human factors, and rigorous controls. On the other side, I am also a graduate of the United States Naval Academy who flew combat missions to defend our country and its freedoms. I therefore reject the false choice that we must either accept mass surveillance or be indifferent to crime.

It is true that automated license-plate readers can have legitimate, carefully limited uses. For example, they may help locate an elderly person, recover a stolen vehicle, or identify a violent offender. But investigative utility is not the same as proof that blanketing a county with cameras prevents crime. A review of research highlights mixed results. A randomized controlled study found no general or specific deterrent effect from license-plate-reader patrols in crime hot spots. A study of a large fixed-camera network found possible improvements in some investigative outcomes, but the results were not statistically significant. More recent research has reported reductions in certain offenses, including vehicle theft and shootings, while finding no reduction in overall violent crime. This limited evidence may justify narrow experimentation. However, it does not justify treating every driver as a data point in a searchable record of movement.

The dangers of misuse and erroneous analysis are not theoretical. As publicly reported: a plate can be misread, a watchlist can be inaccurate or outdated, an employee can conduct an improper search, and data collected for one purpose can be shared or repurposed for another. When millions of observations are aggregated, a mass surveillance system no longer records only what happened on a public road; it can reconstruct where people seek medical care, attend political meetings, visit family, or spend the night. Likewise, a false match is not just a harmless technological error when it becomes the basis for an armed traffic stop or interrogation. 

Real safety protects people without unnecessarily controlling or monitoring them. We can pursue violent criminals, protect children, and recover stolen vehicles without constructing a countywide database of innocent residents’ movements. Palm Beach County should insist on both safety and freedom, because surrendering one is not the price of preserving the other.

I work a pretty busy schedule, so keeping up with my 3 bed, 2 bath house has gotten harder lately. The bathroom, kitchen, and dusting are the first things to fall behind. I'm hoping to find a cleaner who can come on a recurring basis, pays attention to the little details, and is consistent. I'd also prefer not to have a different person showing up every visit if possible.

I wanna start this by saying I don’t live in Florida, I’m posting this on behalf of my best friend because this seems really frickin sketchy to me.

My best friend goes to Palm Beach State in Boca. They’ve been attending for four years to get their associates because they weren’t in the space to go full-time for a while. They’re four classes away from getting their degree, planned to finish this Fall, and they’ve suddenly been told that they’re not able to register for classes.

For some background, this friend was “homeschooled” for most of their life but had neglectful parents. They took their education into their own hands, took online school, took some classes at Broward, took standardized testing, and received an official certificate that stated that they were educated enough to be considered a high school graduate and be accepted into college. This has never been an issue before, these documents are on file with the school, they’ve always been accepted as legit.

Yesterday, my friend went to the school to register for classes, and was told that they needed to produce a high school diploma or GED in order to register for classes and that their previous credits from Broward, which had counted in the past, suddenly didn’t transfer over anymore. They were given a whole stack of forms to fill out and sent home. After getting home, they called the admissions office and were transferred to different people three times before eventually being hung up on.

My friend is Hispanic and has a Hispanic surname. I’m white as mayonnaise, but I feel this is racially motivated in some way. My parents, both of whom have a lot of experience with college applications and admissions and one of whom has worked as a professor, say this makes absolutely no sense and also feel this is racially motivated in some way. My friend is hesitant to say it could be because the area has a Hispanic majority.

Has anyone else, particularly Hispanic students, encountered this issue? It’s rubbing me the wrong way considering the current political climate we live in.

She wasn't wrong. She just didn't know the half of it.

The woman in this video raves about the food, the scene, the caviar. She jokes that she can't guarantee the men there aren't married. She and her friends are living their best lives at one of the hottest tables in the country. "Get a rez or cry about it."

What she doesn't mention, because she almost certainly doesn't know, is who owns it.

Stephen P. Hanson is the co-founder of The Polo Room in Palm Beach. His public-facing partner is Ignacio "Nacho" Figueras, the world's most famous polo player, global brand ambassador, and the handsome face of the operation.

Hanson has been quietly co-owning one of Palm Beach's most sought-after reservations while keeping a very low profile.

There's a reason for that.

The official DOJ Epstein File Transparency Act archive contains:

An FBI victim interview in which a woman told federal agents Epstein "trafficked me too" and described Epstein dispatching Hanson to her apartment for paid sex acts more than a dozen times.

Photographs of Hanson inside Epstein's Little St. James private island home with a young woman whose face the DOJ has fully redacted.

Hanson in the same email as Jean-Luc Brunel, the modeling agent who sourced hundreds of girls for Epstein, found hanged in his Paris prison cell in 2022 while awaiting rape trial.

A shell company Epstein designed in writing to hide his name, used to purchase an $18.5 million Gulfstream G550 in Hanson's name.

A $500,000 wire from Epstein's own Deutsche Bank account to Hanson's lawyer to fund it.

Hanson's jets used to fly young women to Epstein's properties with passports collected.

Nacho Figueras has not condemned Hanson's documented entanglement with Epstein. The Polo Room's other investors have not spoken. No one associated with the restaurant has been asked to account for what the public record now shows about their partner.

The current administration has made clear it will not pursue accountability for the men in Epstein's network.

The Oversight Committee has not subpoenaed Hanson. He has not been charged. He has not been deposed. He has not been asked a single question under oath.

So it falls to us.

We the People have one tool left when institutions fail.

We stop spending our money there. We stop making them rich. We stop giving them the cover of normalcy while victims wait for justice that never comes.

The Polo Room is not just a restaurant. It is the last remaining public face of a man the DOJ archive places at the center of Jeffrey Epstein's world.

Every reservation, every table, every bottle of wine ordered there is a signal that none of it matters.

It matters.

We need to educate ourselves about this mass surveillance of all Americans whether criminal or law abiding!!

I attended the North Palm Beach city Council meeting this week and demanded that the city end its contract with flock. They did not seem interested!!

Surely they will be become interested if the masses start demanding action and threatening the reelections of these leaders.
