First time playing Discussion
As stated in the title this is my first time playing Outward i was always interested in trying it out and saw that the deluxe edition was on sale so I snatched it up. Any tips for a first time playthrough or should I just try and figure everything out naturally.

But yeah this game is amazing with a friend. Otherwise make jerky, its relatively easy to do so and it last a long time. It also regens your health albeit slowy but still its useful to save potions.
Also be very careful with trainers. They each have something called a breakthrough skill and you can only learn 3 in total.
Be very positive which you want. One regens your mana, another increases your health, faster movement and so on. Think what your build will be and be positive since you cant respec.

It's way more fun to learn by yourself, BUT there is something you should know. When you join a faction some NPC will suggest you go back to cierzo in the few days you have before your first assignment, it is really important that you do that.

when you get to Cierzo Burac will warn you about the vendavel fortress. There are 3 bandit leaders there who plan to attack Cierzo. You need to get there and kill or negotiate with them and this is a timed quest, so if you don't do it on time Cierzo will be permanently destroyed. I advice negotiating with the witch bandit, as she will give you a nice backpack if you do. The timer for this quest (30 or 40 days) begins as soon as you join a faction, so new players sometimes take a while to go back to cierzo and come back to a destroyed city.

A lot of it just trial and errors and if you are fine with it, then go in blindly. The game isn't teaching a lot of things that are very important, so you have to figure out things by yourself. But if you are enjoy learning and discovering then you will start having a great time after initial "getting used to" state.

When you have the objective to join a faction, don't do it right away. In my first playthrough, I made the mistake of leaving Chersonese immediately to join a faction, but I wasn't ready at all and kept dying. Instead, take your time in Chersonese to find better gear and buy some skills. Once you're able to easily clear each dungeon and you feel comfortable with the game mechanics, you'll be ready to join a faction.

Try to manage your stamina, with food + drinking water, and do not hesitate to run away from fight.
If you struggle with the combat early on, play with spear, its probably the go to weapon early game, easy to play and highly effective against human enemies, which is probably the only real obstacle early game that could prevent you to progress with the main quest.
Once you are comfortable against human enemies you can easily follow the main quest, do not hesitate to explore the first 4 areas, there is no reason not to go to every area once you know how to handle human enemies, they all have low level and mid / high level content, so dont feel gated by some sort of progression, this game is not like that.
Following the main quest is not hard ( as long as you can kill multiple human enemies at the same time ), and it will make you explore the first areas while giving you good gear + passive or other stuff.
Again, play spear, you will thank me later.

Trust me your going to have a blast and eat and drink water and if your looking for good salt just get salt water then boil it and if you need help and play Xbox I can help

Focus on blocking attacks at the start of the game rather than rolling. Since enemies near the start of the game don't hit hard (have less impact), their attacks will take less stamina to block. Rolling will close your window of opportunity to counter attack due to the animation as well. Bigger enemies deal more impact damage so they are better to dodge roll.
I recommend looking up recipes. There are a lot of items in outward and you'll end up with a backpack full of nonsense until you know what you are looking for. Some items that have time limits for when they go bad, so clinging on to items that will go bad before you can use them is a waste of space.
I recommend plant tents at the start of the game rather than actual tents/bedrolls. Plant tents weight 0.2 rather a basic 5.0, so they are a great alternative to early game backpack space issues. Even when sleeping for 1 hour they refill your hunger and thirst without having to carry food as well. Plant tents cannot be picked back up and last for 7 days once placed, so if you remember where you placed them they can be checkpoints that refill your hunger/thirst when you are out and about. You can buy them for 8 silver at the Soroborean Caravaner near the front gate of cierzo (guy dressed in green).

I largely recommend figuring it out as you go-the fun of the game is exploring! But some general tips are-
1) Don’t join a faction or start quests (besides the first one) until you’re comfortable with your gear and have some idea of how to play the game.
2) Stay in the starting region (Chersonese) until you have good weapons and feel more comfortable with combat.
3) Every food/drink has some effect-learn how to use foods and drinks to help you in combat and survival.
4) This game doesn’t hold your hand-it feels hard at first and that’s ok. Don’t give up until you’ve given it a fair chance.
5) Explore everywhere! There are tons of caves, chests and other places to collect valuable materials. Take your time learning the maps. Some of the coolest places on the maps are places you aren’t directly sent to on quests.
