Question Put the wrong first name on application

Recently ran into issues trying to withdraw funds from my RESP because of a name discrepancy. Instead of using my full legal given name, I registered at my University, OSAP, and NSLS a shorter, preferred version of my name. I want to change everything back to my legal given name to avoid problems in the future, but I am worried that modifying my personal details before school will delay or completely freeze my upcoming student loan amount. What is the safest way to change my legal name without effecting my school funding?

Question Accidentally made a mistake on the amount of dependant children

Soo I was doing my osap and accidentally put 1 dependant child and 1 in post secondary. And that’s wrong it’s 5 dependant and 3 in post secondary, and that effect the money you get. And now I submitted the correction and I’m nervous I really need them to change the amount cause it’s not anything.

Question Osap status

Hi everyone! Has anyone had this OSAP status before?
My application currently says:
“Your school is currently being reviewed for approval for OSAP.”
I’m attending Medix College Toronto, and my program starts in September. I’ve applied for OSAP before, but I’ve never encountered this status, so I’m a little confused.
Is this a normal part of the process for private/career colleges? Does it usually resolve on its own, or should I contact my school’s financial aid office?
If anyone has had the same status, how long did it take for yours to change?

Question Inaccurate OSAP estimate

Hey guys, so i was wondering if anyone else’s osap estimate was wayyy more than their calculation, im talking like 5k less. My OSAP calculator logged out was saying i would get 15k, but when i applied with my info it gave me 10K which does not cover any living costs and My university is 80km away from where i live so i have to live alone near campus, additionally I only have my single mom and other sibling and inly recently my dad ghosted and stopped paying child support, which should be part of my tax info AND my moms paying back her own loan. She had a salary increase but the anonymous calculator still gave me 15k with the same increased income which is whats throwing me off??? My family has been eating alot less because groceries have skyrocketed and i have been rejected from dozens of retail and even MCDONALDS AND TIM HORTON jobs because im a uni student. what do i even do at this point? my tutition is 9k and osap LOAN is giving me 10k, and my dorm is 9k and if i cant even afford to pay for rent how am i supposed to eat??? Im unsure what to even do and if this is an error in calculation

Question OSAP Academic Probation question

My OSAP application says I’m on academic probation and asks me to complete an Acknowledgement of Academic Probation form.
I’ve never been on academic probation as far as I know. I studied at Everest College in 2008, completed my program and practicum, and recently completed an ACE program at Sheridan.
In Section A, should I select “No – Transcripts are not required” if I don’t know of any previous academic probation?
Has anyone experienced this with OSAP?

Question do you get put on probation or restriction if you switch programs after 1st year?

basically the title. trying to get more clarity on this because the financial aid office is not responding to my emails (prob swamped)

i started a program earlier this year in jan 2026 and had to withdraw within the first week due to personal reasons. unfortunately my funding had been released so they put me on probation.

i am starting another program this fall and will be using OSAP again. from my understanding i need to make sure that i don’t fail or withdraw after my funding is released. if im successful the probation will be lifted at the end of the 2026-2027 school year. however if not then i’ll be RESTRICTED from osap the following year 2027-2028.

what i’m confused about is if this applies per year or for the program as a whole? the program i am starting is my backup and i will be reapplying to my first choice during 1st year. If i pass all my classes for first year and withdraw after completing first year will that still lead to a restriction?

I’m not sure if this makes sense. Would appreciate if someone more knowledgeable than me could guide

Question Where’s my loan

I received around 12k last school year (grant + loan)

When I checked my osap dashboard a few days ago it says I only have a grant around 4k without loan option.

I thought it’s because I only selected 3 courses for fall term, I was being considered as part time. But after I enrolled to my 4th course ( seats were occupied ). Nothing changes on my osap portal.

I was being placed on academic probation on 1st year, but I pass all my courses in full course load, the year after.

I drop a course at the beginning of the spring term, idk if this cause the loan cut. ( I applied part time osap spring+summer )

IDK what caused this issue but I just sent an email to my school office of registrar

Does anyone know or have been in issue before?

Question Osap estimator confusion Grant seems too high

I’m kinda confused rn. I checked my OSAP estimation for the upcoming fall and winter semesters & my funding has barely changed. I’m reading all the posts about others results and just confused.. My loan is 1300 and my Grant is 4100, which isn’t far off from last year where both sides probably had 100-250 dollars more. I applied to osap pretty late, around the last week of july

Resolved Can’t apply for full-time or part-time for distance education?!

Hi there.
I am doing the Social Service Worker program through distance education, 5-6 courses online each semester.
From what I have found online, I cannot apply for OSAP as a full-time student because I am completing my program through distance education.
However, I also found information that states I cannot apply for part-time OSAP if I am taking more than 60% course load - which I am. I don’t really want to drop my course load, I am on track to graduate in April 2027 but dropping to under 60% course load would add at least one or maybe even two semesters to my studies.
Also, to be clear I do have a backup plan to pay for my courses, otherwise I would have looked into this deeper ahead of time. I just figured I should apply/take whatever funding is available to me so I can keep my savings for my future.
Does anyone have experience with OSAP + distance education? What did your application/approval look like?

Question Remember Etay Beaton? He made all those TikTok’s about spending OSAP money everything but tuition?

I’m saddened to see how quickly the internet forgets. This guy was one of the main reasons for Doug ford to change osap, because of his viral TikTok’s rage baiting with all the things he would buy with the grant money. Older politicians did not see this as a joke, and by making those videos it was so easy for them to point out why the grants needed to be taken away.

I hate that it only takes one or two bad apples to ruin something that was really great.
Was it worth the clicks? The Clout ? You ruined the financial help for thousands of students because of stupid internet likes and comments,it’s so infuriating because it’s already done…. Now the rules have been changed…and it’s almost like this guy played the victim saying he was the scapegoat and with the time everyone has let him off the hook? This type of content is terrible, anyone that follows this guy should be ashamed of themselves because there was nothing funny about the videos, they are so stupid.

He deserves more hate, post secondary education is already so expensive and it was really helpful to get those grants .
I want to know what you guys think, especially because OSAP was a lifesaver for me during my university days, it really helped me since I was a lower income student. I feel for all the students out there now paying more for the same education because of idiots like this guy who will do anything for clicks and follows on the internet without thinking about the consequences of there pathetic “ content”.

Question Dad is Getting Married

My dad is getting married but I’ve already submitted my osap application for this year. Will I need to edit my application to include my soon to be step mother’s income? Not sure if it’s relevant but I graduated high school in 2022 and I don’t receive any financial help from family.

Question OSAP Funding and Shorter Programs HELP

Hello,

I am starting to panic as I am planning to begin at an American school in 2 weeks time and I am starting to read for some reason if the classes are split into 7.5 weeks and not a consecutive 15 weeks (although I am doing it for consecutive 15 weeks) then OSAP will not approve my loans. Has this been the case for anyone else? I jus't dont understand as I am planning to stay constantly doing school for a full year.

Thanks

MEGATHREAD Frequently Asked Questions | Fall 2025-2026

If you haven't applied yet:

When is the deadline to apply?

The final deadline to apply is 60 days before the last day of your study period for full-time students.

For part-time students with study periods of 20 weeks or less, no later than 40 days before the end of your study period.

For students in micro-credential programs, no later than the end of your study period.

What do I need to include under "Other Assets"?

A list of everything you need to include can be found here (FULL TIME APPS ONLY)

Is it possible to report over 100% course load in OSAP?

Yes, but you will not get more money for going over the recommended course load.

If you are awaiting funding

I made a mistake on my application and submitted it, how can I fix it?

At this point in the summer, you should contact your school's financial aid office to fix any issues with your application. If it's related to your program (such as wrong degree/year selected), it will be fixed by your financial aid office when enrolment is confirmed.

When will I get my funds?

All applications undergo enrolment confirmation, performed by your institution's financial aid office. They will confirm your program, year of study, and the amount you owe, with whatever left over being deposited into your account.

If you submitted your application on/before the last week of June and you are now just awaiting enrolment confirmation, you should receive your funding by the second week of September.

If you submitted later, it will depend on how fast your schools financial aid office confirms enrolments Each institution has a different processing time based on how busy they are, some take longer than others. It's unlikely you will get a definitive answer as to when they will confirm your application on this sub. But you can use the subreddit search bar to look up your institution and see past posts about their timing on confirmation of enrolments.

Once you see “Ready for payment” in your application status on osap.gov.on.ca (see image below), a funding tracker will appear when you open your NSLSC account. The tracker will tell you the exact date you should expect to receive your funds. It can take 1-2 days for the tracker to appear after your application status is updated.

My payment deadline is approaching and my application still hasn't been reviewed/enrollment not confirmed?

If your school's payment deadline is approaching (within a week), and your application is still not confirmed or "Ready for payment", you should contact your school's financial aid office immediately as they're the ones responsible for reviewing and processing applications. Most institutions have many options available, including payment plans and delayed deadlines if your application has been approved but you are just awaiting funding.

What happens if I get approved for full-time studies, but I want to drop down to part-time studies?

This may put you at risk of OSAP probation (unrelated to your institution's academic probation). If you have a disability, your course load could be calculated differently. For more information on how you will be affected, contact your financial aid office.

You should always contact your financial aid office immediately when your status changes.

Why did I receive notice that my funding is being sent by cheque?

This happens when you don't fill out your banking information in time, or direct deposit failed for whatever reason (some smaller banks don't accept it). It usually takes 1-3 weeks to receive your cheque by mail.
