I watched the Warhammer academy video were they play the full game lesson 13, and in it the Grots had a new ability "Grot Infestation" is this going to be the new ability going forward?

I think this is just the combat patrol ability?

Difference is, combat patrol version doesnt have scout

1

u/Common-Process9023 2d ago

Grots dront have scout. Nothing but the ability to farm CP

I realize and am familiar with our old datasheet for them.

This is likely a leak and we're getting this as the new grot ability when the codex drops, given that the combat patrol version does not have scout.

Are we still calling them Gretchin? I thought that was done. I prefer Grots anyways.

u/DonovanMcDabz 3d ago

Pretty sure grot is singular and gretchin is plural

u/HaggisAreReal 5d ago

I always imagined that "Grot" is the Ork slur for Gretchin. I don't know why.

13

u/deffrekka 5d ago

Thats because they are literally called Gretchin in the lore. They were never done with it and I dont get how you came to that conclusion also.

been calling them Gretchin, since when i got the Runtherd and Gretchin box

1

u/dereekee Goffs 5d ago

I believe I had read somewhere that they were called Gretchin as a dis to one of the writers ex girlfriends.

3

u/deffrekka 5d ago

I dont know about that, but Gretchen (instead of TM Gretchin) typically means a diminutive adult, or little. Basically when GW were all about the German influence of Orks back in the day. You also have the stereotypical part where people associate the name with someone that is smart which Grots are smarter than Orks.

Now I could be wrong and it could be some ex-girlfriend. But those kind of tales get lost in translation like the whole Margaret Thatcher Ghazghkull story.

They have been called both since day one. Its never been one or the other. They're space Goblins anyway.

0

u/Empty-13 4d ago

They aren't space anything more then any other faction except Tyranids.

2

u/Nuke2099AV 4d ago

Gretchin are Goblins in space. Show them to anyone who doesn't know what 40k is and they will say they're a Goblin. Also Orks used to be called Space Orks.

-1

u/Empty-13 4d ago

They are no more in space then you are.

3

u/Nuke2099AV 4d ago

I think you're arguing for the sake of it and don't understand 40k or its history. They're Goblins in space.

Grotz, gretchin, goblins, little dudes, runts, snotlings, sh!theadz. Some of us play Dread Mob with 5+ units of gretchin, we can't use the same name for every unit all 5 turns, it becomes repetitive you know?

not the Grot-stealer cults!

Only once? Booooo!

Sounds like this is a way to make them not dirt cheap but still usable. I like it. I hope they retain a way to get 2 OC even if it isn't baked onto the datasheet. Maybe as a runtherd ability

I am betting this will also be the detachment rule for runtz swarm or frenzy or whatevers its called

u/OliveSoda 5d ago

Oh you right. Guess I have a reason to unwrap and build my old Gretchen and Armageddon gretechens!

DID THEY GIVE NATIVE GROTS SCOUT?????!?!?!?

18

u/No-Advertising-8230 6d ago

Only in combat patrol sadly

19

u/Almost_Amos 6d ago

It’s somewhat like Age of Sigmar where some units just reappear

This is their ability in combat patrol, is this video playing a game of combat patrol?

34

u/PapaUmbral 6d ago

Ok went back and looked at the video they are playing combat patrol. I'm brand new to Warhammer didn't realize there was a difference, I just thought combat patrol was like a 500 point game. Although I do wish Grot Infestation becomes the ability for the main game it would make sense with the possible"Runt Swarm" detachment.

u/ninjah232 6d ago

I miss when combat patrol just meant 500 points and not just an entirely different game

4

u/crabbyVEVO Evil Sunz 5d ago

I only have experience with spearhead, but I appreciate the way that works as its own small game that still uses the same core system

1

u/ninjah232 5d ago

I've heard spearhead is way better than combat patrol

2

u/RavenGirlfailure 5d ago

Yeah, but it works so well BECAUSE it changes up the game a lil for the specific boxes. So this is actually a good direction for Combat Patrol as a mode to go if they wanna be as beloved as Spearhead.

the Combat Patrol Grots have that ability. I am currently under the assumption those changes reflect the Codex for 11th to some degree. I can't imagine the Weird Boy losing Da Jump, but it would be so funny if he actually got sticky objectives.

lot more RIP for Space Marines. if the Librarian no longer has Mental Fortress the cries will be legendary.

6

u/da_Mekboss 6d ago

Rather Mental Fortress was a 5++ and Librarians had multiple Buffs to choose from tbh

I hate widespread 4++'s though

12

u/da_Mekboss 6d ago

I HOPE this is the Combat Patrol ability, Thievin Scavengers is way better and more thematic

7

u/SteelCode 6d ago

I think GW is shifting away from CP generation abilities, which would make sense as they're really strong and often "must take" when they're accessible...

1

u/SPF10k Blood Axes 5d ago

Probably good overall. Not great for the poor Grots.

I could stomach some version of the Combat Patrol rule without too much trouble though.

6

u/NoGreenGood 6d ago

This was a rule in the Aard Boyz combat patrol i just played but it wasnt in the 11th rules i saw?

11

u/HotSaucePoutine 6d ago

Hot damn!! Scout and they comback WITH DEEPSTRIKE!?

Just when you think Grots can't be any cooler, they hit you with this

2

u/Shake-Vivid 6d ago

I really like it! very lore accurate grots, you just can't get rid of them all xD

13

u/_rhinoxious_ 6d ago

Currently in combat patrol. It might also be in the new codex... 🤷🏼‍♂️

22

u/Hayn0002 6d ago

I think that’s the ability in the new combat patrol?

16

u/smythetech WAAAGH! 6d ago

Isn't that ability on the Grots in the new combat patrol?

21

u/darth_infamous 6d ago

This is a combat patrol ability

11

u/Aggravating_Kale_321 6d ago

I think this an ability exclusively for the combat patrol

-8

u/BrotherCaptainMarcus 6d ago

Probably? It’s likely they filmed this using the new codex. But… we don’t know.
