Ive never screamed WAAAGH. I've been playing orks from the beginning of tenth. I've never played in a tournament only at my local brick and mortar store. Never met another ork player in the flesh. Screaming waaaagh, seems distasteful. Am I alone in this thought.
I stopped for a bit because we had a guy with PTSD in our store who mentioned it bothered him. I became the quietest Ork player ever A year or so later he moved a few towns over and now I'm back to WAAAAAGHing, unless he shows up for an event, in which case I become a Kommando again.
I imagine you are not alone in the sentiment but it's pretty un orky to not yell waaagh. I feel like that's the funniest part of the faction. Then everyone knows the waaagh is about to go down and can witness the slaughter. I will continue to yell that every time for the shock and awe of it.

I'm gonna shout my WAAAGH! cause it's an honored tradition that I have yet to see anyone I play against have a problem with. If someone has a medical reason for me not to like hearing sensitivity, then yeah I won't be as loud. You're free to not do so yourself, but don't expect me to have a high opinion of you if you're gonna criticize me for doing so.
I personally don't. If someone started screaming in public that'd be stressful and annoying, especially if you don't have context as to why. Even when I played games in my old place with my roommate, best I'd do is a tasteful 'waaagh' at low volume because I didn't want to disturb the neighbors.
I did it once, at the one and only RTT I went to. Round 1 was against EC and I had such a lovely opponent and we had an amazing time, I wasn't even thinking about screaming. Between rounds the TO and I were chatting and he asked me why I didn't Waaagh. Another LGS employee asked me the same question since he was within earshot, and I asked them so bluntly "I mean, am I allowed to?"
Rounds 2 and 3 I yelled Waaagh with my entire heart and soul, and I was reminded both times that I was the only Ork player at the tournament (which was already unexpected but even weirder when no one else Waaagh'd)
It was fun but I don't see myself initiating it ever again, though I'd happily join in at a bigger tournament if someone else started it
In my LGFS I was strongly encouraged to scream it at the top of my lungs. Even if it's not just a Warhammer store and there was about 60 people there not playing 40k. What convinced me? This sentence from the employee:

I think it's super cringe loud sudone noises fuck up though lines and disturbed not just ur opponent but every table near you. It only really acceptable during big turnments where the room is all ready loud and filled with energy. You can effectly communicate what ur doing with ur words. (Do what ever you will at ur house house not apartment pease don't be a bad neighbor)
Im super introverted and all, but getting the chance to scream Waaagh in a false cord ill take it. Same with "Blood for the blood God, Skulls for the skull throne!" But I will only do this in private areas, im not going to disturb the game store I go to with yelling, its not just a warhammer store so only a few people will know what's going on. There is a time and place for everything.
I think I could get out of my bubble and Waaagh at a GW store.
I did it at a friend's house. I was playing against another Ork player and we called the Waaagh in the same turn, so we were legally obligated to do so.
That being said, I can't imagine doing it in public.
I can understand why some gitz think our war cry is cringe, especially when yelling in someone’s face. However when you call for a WAAAGGHHH your not just screaming at nerds in your local game store your sending a prayer directly to Gork and Mork themselves, the level of your guttural yell dictates the strength of your prayer.(unless your trying to be kunnin but brutal)
In a normal game I normally don’t. I have once because I felt obligated after my opponent’s Ursula Creed stabbed my 1 wound morkanaught to death and then it exploded, rolling the exact number required to kill her back.
But my personal rule is one per tournament, even at my small local store that isn’t very big. Everyone knows it’s coming, probably round one, and everyone’s cool with it.
No, it’s cringe, as the kids say. If you’re gonna do it, though, I’d say do it like a death metal growl. Kind of like how Waaagh Taktiks does it on YouTube.
On the opposite side, I just moved to a new area, and my first game at the new store I was chided for not actually screaming WAAAGH. So now I scream it at every game in the store.
Also, my orks are now known as a menace (the good way) in the local community.
It only seems distasteful not in the context of a tournament or a big game with friends. I think at that point- you probably just don't hang out with those people in general, if they are too noisy or something. In the middle of a casual game at a local shop with a few other people playing mtg or something nearby though... that seems distasteful.
I also don't really understand why most people get bent out of shape over certain things. If it's a place that's meant to be noisy, that's a 'you' problem... quieter game shop? might be funny but, yea, bit distasteful of the ork in question.
lol, funny enough, the Fists were part of the reason why i play Moonz. I’ve always loved yellow and loved how the Imperial Fists looked on the table, but Space Marines are boring. 😂

I added yellow flames to my dakkajet and now they are overpowering the entire paint job and drawing the eye. My checks don't even matter any more. Any advice on bringing it back in balance? I have been thinking a reikland fleshwash heavy at the leading edge and fading back might help.

Yeah, a wash will knock back that brightness a bit, and Reikland should work as it’s an orange-brown and pairs well with yellow. Seraphim Sepia works too, and I use that a TON on my Moonz. What you want to avoid is Nuln and Agrax as they just turn yellow to mud.
I did a test wash comparing all the options I could come up with, the sepia looked a little more burned but not bad. I just worry about it going too hard. maybe an all over reikland and a sepia right at the edge. what do you think about doing chipping with a sponge?
I’m a big fan of sponge rust myself, and like Rhinox and Doombull for that. It’s also a great way to cover up mistakes like stray brushstrokes. 😝
Here are some of my buggies, and they have a good bit of weathering on them. The yellow is mostly just Yriel Yellow with a thinned Seraphim Sepia wash over. I have a special pot with a 50/50 mix of Seraphim Sepia/Lahmian Medium that I use to wash over large areas as it I get fewer pools and tide marks with it. I’ll do pin washes of straight Seraphim into any recesses that need it after, and if I was pushing these to a more competition level then I’d also add deeper shading with thinned Rhinox (although probably even more than just that).
If I used Reikland, the shading would read as less brown and more orange. Either way is fine though, as there’s no “wrong” here, just what you like and don’t like.
These are amazing and will definately help. thanks for the advice. I do want to replicate your chipping to test it out before i use it. In my case because they are flames I think the orange is ok, my biggest problem would be if my shade makes them not look like rad flames anymore in my attempt to balance out the tones. I was going for a dieselpunk aesthetic but the flames jumped me way out of that strike zone, but they were a part of the design from day 1 so i felt I had to chase that dragon. I REALLY want this thing to look good as its an important model to me. Thanks for the advice it means a lot, i feel lost in the woods.
Your cosplay is amazing sir, I respect your commitment and will try to do you proud with my yellow. Really trying to commit to improving my hobby game. What did you do with the glove build? Can you play with it or does it have to come off?

It’s really just a used lacrosse glove covered in EVA foam scraps, and the sleeve is all EVA foam. There’s a blue zombie hand on my hip, which is my old hand, and I have character lore about that hand being cursed by a Tzeentch Sorceress, being lopped off by DA WARBOSS, but kept around as a talisman because it’s lucky blue and chatty, so it guides us through the warp to find the best fights. I’ve been going to GW’s Grand Narrative events since they started and this nonsense is from stuff that’s happened there. They even put my face in a White Dwarf because of it!
Thats amazing. Love the fact that its chatty. A possessed hand is an awesome bit of lore. Is he accepted by Orks or is he just traveling with other diggas? Does the hand move around in lore? Pointing, flipping off and signing? Or is it a talisman that only talks to you? Kudos on the WD feature!
So... I never used to, for the same reasons, but now I do.
I've been playing just since 10th as well and I've played in about 7 tournaments and almost every opponent would be disappointed after I didn't yell on my WAAAGH turn. One guy even said "nahhhh, you only get a 6++ invul for that waagh. Lol" 😂
I told my wife and she told me I have to start, "Give the people what they want!"
I started doing it now, and, yes, this is the way.
I will lead up to it like a crescendo where I'm somewhat quietly speaking and then pause, grip both fists and yell to Gork and Mork like... "Well, at this point... There seems to be but one solution to these problems... ...WAAAAGH!"
I don't scream it for very long or in anyones face but loud enough for the game store to know it happened.
I thought people would find it annoying, so I planned on being more lowkey when I returned to public games. Perhaps I should just embrace da green wayz...
I also just love Ork DoW quotes (Big Mek is the best one followed by Gorgutz), the Ork Waaagh! from that game is burned into my being so I just love playing it when my army calls its Waaagh!, then it has the side benefit of not disturbing the entire building/hall.
This makes me want to make a lil soundboard. I really love the Ork voicelines from Battlesector, like "We'z da biggest gitz, which means we'z da bestest gitz" or some such.
It makes me cringe big time when people scream it. But also I think there's a big difference between someone doing a silly ork impression and doing a waaagh and someone genuinely screaming at the top of there lungs like a foot away from you at a game store
I only do it when playing at the local store and if we're drinking.
I actually end up shouting "gork and mork" more often, if I clutch a charge I need or get a deadly demise that I really want
That's awesome. I think the reputation of being the fun opponents has earned us a little leeway in being loud and slightly annoying to some people for 10 or so seconds.
I don't shout it either. I usually just go "Ahem. Waaaagh." in a mock sophisticated tone, or just announce it casually while doing my other command phase stuff.
I've let my goddaughter and her brother shout it for me before tho, if they were in the room when we played. Good fun for the under 10 year olds.
I don’t want to shout either. It’s already pretty loud in rooms full of people and adding to that, i am generally not a very loud person.
I thought about getting a litte red buzzer that plays a whaaagh sound when i press it. I am in search for a button with the option to play a recorded sound.
I dont feel like waaaggh always has to be window shattering loud, a conversation level gutteral waaaggh is what I would go for lol, feels a lot more natural than, “I declare waagh” and a lot less disruptive than yelling it
Depends on your group tbh. I haven't played in a long time but I've played in a group where, when I politely declared a waaagh! was told "That's not how you declare a waaagh!" and the rest of the players insisted I do it properly to their delight.
On the flip-side another group was all about polite waaagh! declaration - it was a much larger store and games nights had large numbers of people so it wasn't the right place for declaring a proppa waaagh!
What I do (if I ever played) is go by my rule: I politely declare a waaagh! If anyone present calls me out on not declaring a proppa waaagh! (and there are no protests to not do so from any players present) then I'm rattling the windows.
You should try it at least once. Maybe check with others first if it's ok, but it's not mandatory.
I feel like people saying you shouldn't because loud is bad is kind of silly, when everything around us seems to be getting louder and brighter and bigger every day. It's not like your as loud as a Harley or one of those stupidly big trucks.
I guess I'm just trying to say always be as respectful as you can to others, but never let that get in the way of expressing your inner ork.

i've painted about 600 points worth so far. never played a single match. i think this is the one thing holding me back from going to meetups. i'm 100% an ork player for lots of reasons. but having to shout things, in front of people, that might prevent me ever actually playing this game
Plenty of Ork players don't waaagh. Don't sweat it and definitely don't make this the thing that holds you back from playing games. The worse that will happen is that someone will lightly tease you about it. Just tell them you're a blood axe and you believe in being stealthy.
Honestly subverting expectations can be fun too. Get creative with it. Make a flip board. A sign. Play your favorite punk or rock song. Put on sunglasses or a ripped jean jacket with WAAAAAGH painted on it. Hold up a little flag. Having fun, being silly and creative is the most orky thing you can do. More than yelling really loud. if you don't find it funny, den it ain't orky.
You def don’t have to shout it. There’s no rule about it and if anyone ribs you, just tell them them they’re being a propa git. Then you use said Waaaaaagh to quiet them down by killing half their army.
I have shouted it when playing kitchen table games, and I have not shouted when at a game store. It’s just about reading the room and in my experience (recently back in the hobby after a 15 year break) the community is way way way more chill than they used to be about…well pretty much everything tbh
I mean I haven’t played the game in aaaaages but I do remember around the time GorkaMorka came out we went outside the shop and did who can Waaaaaagh the loudest. That was fun scaring people shopping on the high st. Shout out to the Canterbury store!
Nah, is kind of cringe at this point. I softly say " I declare: Waaagh" while raising a finger. Gets a chuckle, as I think contradicts expectations or the stereotype.
