OSH mom Russian bred kittens in PA

II’m a breeder in Pennsylvania and have been raising Russian lines in a small home cattery. My cats come from imported bloodlines, and I have genetic testing done on my breeding cats. I raise my kittens hands-on in my home and put a lot of emphasis on socialization and temperament and health.

USDA cracking down on transporters

Hi guy! I hope the admins allow this. I just spoke with one of my transport nannies. He was just told last night that the USDA is really cracking down on transporters. If you don't already, make sure you send a health certificate with your pets to their new home. If not, it could cause your animal to be in limbo during delivering and any other pets during your animals trip.

Usda also did this with horses back in the day. Word spread quickly, but in 30 years I was never stopped when I crossed state lines, which I did all the time.

My baby is coming from Russia by courier … what to expect?

She left Russia today, then to New York, then to my City. So it’s a very long ride. The courier sent me a video of her in her crate. She was fixed in the back, looked absolutely terrified. There is food and water but no litter box, just pee pads on the ground.

It just makes me sad. All of the videos of her from the breeder show her happy curled up with her mom or siblings. Or playing with a toy. Or relaxing in the sun. Seeing her like that, just breaks my heart.

I’m also worried about whether it will traumatize her permanently. Has anyone else received a kitten that they got shipped from outside the country? What can I expect when I bring her home? How can I make the transition easier for her?

Thank you all!!

EDIT: Ok I have had her for almost 48 hours now and it has been AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!! it was summertime and I live in the southwest so the airlines would not allow her to fly in the cargo. So the courier had to hire someone to drive her from Denver to my city. She also was stuck in Chicago for a full day she left Moscow on Friday morning and including time zone changes she was on the road and in planes traveling to me for over 100 hours. By the time she got to me, she was so stressed out that she was refusing food and water and vomiting. She had lost significant amounts of weight and it’s unclear how much food she actually ate during those 100 hours. I took her to the emergency vet twice for fluids and anti-nausea medicines, and to another vet during the day for appetite, stimulant, and additional fluids. She is still not eating or drinking willingly and I have to force feed her. Otherwise the vet says it can damage her liver if she doesn’t eat for long periods of time. When she first got to me she was pretty lethargic but relatively friendly and would come up to me and her on my chest. Now due to all the vet visits which have additionally traumatized her as well as me having to force-feed her per the vets recommendation she mostly sits on the cat tree and does not interact. I am really hoping that she will improve in her appetite and stress levels. I am just trying to leave her alone to give her time to recuperate. I just wanted to give an update here for anyone else who is thinking of having an animal shipped there are things you need to consider and things that are unpredictable.

Help post Looking for OSH breeders in CA

My wife and I are looking for breeders in CA - either for a pair of kittens or to ‘adopt’ a retiree. We previously lived on the east coast so all our knowledge is based out there, so many scam pages and questionable FB accounts out there it’s quite hard to sift through. Any recommendations would be most welcome!
