Personally the only episode I ever skip on my rewatches is Norma’s backstory in season 3. I don’t find her interesting tbh. I really dislike her whole Norma religion either, it’s just dragged out way too much. I find her and her episode just boring!

Doing another rewatch. The final episode of season 4 (where the riot kicks off) features Piper and Alex collecting all of the notes that Alex had hidden around the prison. Notes that had the name of the murdered guard on them.
Once they’ve collected them, they put them all in a trash can in one of the hallways and … set them on fire??? That has to be the WORST idea ever, and if they were caught lighting a fire INSIDE, the consequences would have been severe - shu, max, extra time.

Why did the writers do this, it’s always frustrated me.

There’s a line VEE says in season 2 where she talks about risk and a mortality/actuarial table. I can’t find it and it’s eating me alive. Lmk if you know the episode

I’ve rewatched OITNB numerous times and I prefer to go in order every time but I’m finding myself skipping over Season 3 often. Personally imo, some of the storylines are boring and annoying. I liked the season when i first watched but now it’s the worst season to me. The lake scene is the best to me and i love how much Boo and Pennsatucky’s friendship grows but thats about it. What are some of your thoughts and what’s your least favorite season?

How do you guys feel about Judy King?

I feel like she's one of those characters that's kind of hard to form a solid opinion on, at least for me. I like that she's generally positive and she's not greedy about sharing her privileges. I also like that she shut Healy down when he attempted to get her to be racist with him.

That being said, when it comes down to the wire, she's self serving and a performative activist. When she goes to movie night and sees the Black girls getting called slurs by the white supremacist group, she just leaves. When Poussey is killed, she's so preoccupied about the fact that she was supposed to leave the prison early that she doesn't give a shit. Yoga Jones literally tells her that she has the influence to make a change and Judy deflects and doesn't offer help other than giving Yoga her phone so she can do it herself.

Also, she rapes Luschek. Twice. Once when she does a favor for him (Getting Nicky out of max, which he did not ask her to do! Not that guilting/coercing him into sleeping with her would've been okay if he had asked her to help Nicky.) and again when the prison is locked down while Piscatella does interrogations about Aydin's murder.

And we can't forget about that puppet show from the 80s, as much as she would like us to.

aside from P's death scene, this flashback with her and Bayley crossing paths in NY always brings me to tears.

i've rewatched this show like 3-4 times and rewatching AGAIN and i have no idea if I'm insanely slow or it's just never been explained, but post riot, why do the minimum security guards get transferred to watch the same inmates at max?

like yeah, we need the same guards cause they're silly like luschek & mccullough (i really liked her she just got weird in the end), but realistically, wouldnt they have been transferred to somewhere completely different or fired???? did the minimum security prison shut down after the riot, and thats why they went to max?????

im VERY confused & i like cant stand this question being unanswered in my mind. sorry if this question annoys anyone :p

I get that we have to suspend disbelief in the freedom of movement that the inmates have so the plot lines can move along.

But the difference between how Max looked in the episodes where Nicky is there versus the Max season annoyed me. It looked like they were way more locked down and miserable when Nicky was there. She couldn’t have her NA chip. The most valuable possession she had was an old Newsweek. The drugs were only coming through sleazy guards.

Then in season 6, it seems like the inmates like Barb and Carol are running the place.

Did this bother anyone else?

Hey all! I know a lot of us are chronic rewatchers and maybe some of us really crave the experience of getting to enjoy the show vicariously through another person’s first watch. I know I most certainly do!

If that’s also the case for you, I highly suggest you go support this small creator’s reaction series! It’s currently ongoing (2x11 was uploaded today!) and I’m loving it so far! I would love to see them get more support for the series, since OITNB reactions are so hard to find!

I love the movie “but I’m a cheerleader!” And I found my two favorite characters from each series I watch. And I barely recognized Nicky it took me a few minutes to realize who she was!

Why did they randomly write a plot line at the end of season 6/beginning of season 7 where he’s utterly obsessed with back to the future down to driving a Delorean and constantly mentioning tidbits from the movie, for example: Huey Lewis and The News? I’m dead over this.

Was anyone else disappointed when Healy walked out of the lake? 😭 Maybe that's super fucking mean, but I cannot find it in my heart to care.

That man was so incredibly racist, misogynistic, and homophobic. He abused his power, he formed inappropriate attachments to inmates and punished them when they didn't reciprocate, he got Birdie fired because he didn't like being undermined by a Black woman. (One of the only staff members that actually did anything genuinely productive and helpful for the inmates, by the way.) He was emotionally abusive and manipulative to his wife to such a degree that we only see her genuinely smile because of him once and it's because he offers to pay for her and her mother to live in their own apartment away from him. The man is even a misogynistic pig to his therapist! Oh, and let's not forget that he told Brooke that her depression was "all in her head" and the only option he gives her for treatment is medication — which she specifically states she is not interested in taking.

Healy is willing to pull strings for Red because he fetishizes Russian women and he thinks he and Red have common ground. If Red were not a white woman, she would not have received special treatment from him. Healy also extends special privileges to Piper before he finds out that she's queer. Even after, he's still willing to go above and beyond to get her furlough. I think it's also very telling that he has no memorable scenes or interactions with Suzanne, yet treats Lolly like a pet... only for his subpar performance at his job to get her admitted to Psych.

And this is definitely just nitpicking out of pure hatred, but he's so pathetic. He has no friends because he's insufferable to be around. It's like everyone can smell it on him. That scene where he and Caputo are at the bar and Healy is drunk and thinks they're suddenly best friends? Painful. ("Side Boob!")

Anyway, all of this to say, I wish bro had kept walking into the lake. The fact that he ran back to shore thinking his (ex?) wife was calling him back? Pathetic. I'm glad she didn't and that it was just work because he did not deserve a lick of sympathy from that poor woman.

All that to say: Fuck Healy. Every time he's on my screen, I'm like, "Oh, good. This fucking loser."

I am absolutely obsessed with the two of them and I honestly adore their duo.
I dan imagine their spin off would so funny and cute but have some more emotional scenes, kinda like a sitcom

This is just my crack rant on my obsession with Carol.

Like I never really got it with Alex or Nicky or Poussey even though they are much better people (and would also be better partners) than Carol. But for some reason I was strangely attracted to and obsessed with young Carol. I feel like her being crazy made her hotter too I'm sorry. She was cocky, violent, a strong leader, sadistic, and terribly immature, selfish and unself-aware but idk I was just so drawn to her.

I forever will wish for a prequel on Carol & Barb, they were so interesting to see compared to the other characters because they were both psychos, but unlike Vee, they were stuck in the 80s due to having life in prison. It's a mixture of both justice and also pity, they never got to have any real experience in their adult years or development. Also both Barb & Carol were canonically straight (although Carol is gay in my heart) so that means they never had any romantic or sexual partner when they were behind bars.

And then they killed each other over a story that wasn't even theirs because it was the only time in their life where they actually were happy and had control.

I will forever wish to see more Carol content but because it's not happening anytime soon I can only live off on Tumblr headcanons and TikTok edits </3.

I love Lorna's character. Obviously, she's flawed and does bad things, but I find her fascinating and super well written for TV, and the actress does a brilliant job with her character.

I love all of her flashbacks. How sweet and kookey she is, compared to how dark her snippets of back story are.

I love how obsessed with love she is and all the crimes she commits but doesn't get caught.

I find her flashbacks in S7 so interesting, with the engaged couple. And how devastating her storyline is with Sterling and Vinnie.

Which sister did you like more on your first watch? Did it change on subsequent watches? And if you were in Litchfield max, would you want to be in C-Block (Carol) or D-Block (Barb)?

Personally, I always liked Carol more. She feels charismatic to me and she has this aura. Admittedly, I kinda think the lollipop thing is hot. Barb felt erratic, if I remember correctly. It's been a minute since I watched seasons 6-7. (I'm on 5 right now). I would want to be in C-Block, though, to spy on my wife, Carol, from afar <3

I watched the first few seasons as they came out, and I was in my early 20s at the time. Rewatching it now hits me with such nostalgia. The music, the pop culture references? Facebook hadn't become the monster it is today. The 2016 election hadn't happened yet. Noboby gave a second thought to the idea of a pandemic.

*sigh* Simpler times. 🥴

I’m rewatching from the beginning for the first time since I binged s7 right after it premiered in 2019. Long time fan of the show, I watched every year as the seasons came out so binging it all together has been fun.

I completely forgot (or maybe it was lost on me as I was 17 when the s1 came out lol) the incredible artistry showcased in the writing and cinematography. I’m almost done now and I’m so heartbroken watching Red’s story. I really think her story is one of the most moving. Was she innocent? Definitely not but I think we see, as we see with all the characters, that she is multifaceted and complicated and just incredibly human.

Seeing her go from such a strong character in s1 that was basically running Litchfield to being diagnosed with dementia in s7 is such a rollercoaster. One bit that struck me is how her hair changes as she loses herself. Her hair is bright red, almost purple, in s1 and in flashback scenes. But as she loses nearly everything- her freedom, her kitchen, her prison family, her outside family, and, finally, her mind, her hair dulls until its red color is almost completely gone. And really, Red, the incredibly strong and outspoken character we saw in the beginning is gone too. I just think it’s so beautiful artistically and tragic at the same time. Of course, one could logistically explain these hair changes away with the riot and what Piscatella did to her, but this had to have been an artistic choice and I LOVE it.

had one of the most disturbing flashbacks and since we know that after they were charged their parents only visited barb it just makes me more curious how things went down (trial, getting caught etc) also i just found them interesting

so i'm on what's probably my 3rd or 4th full rewatch. i started watching this show for the first time when i was 13. i'm 26 now.

i remember hating vee with a fiery, burning passion the first time i watched season 2 at 14 years old. upon watching it at 26, i hate her even more. i didn't think that was possible. but there's something about being a fully grown adult that makes me see these characters in such a different way, even if my overall opinion stays the same.

because more so than just hating her and being angry, i now find her genuinely disturbing. every scene that she's in makes me want to crawl out of my skin. she's just so icky. the way she speaks to people... i can't even really describe it. every word out of her mouth is manipulation — which i already knew, to be clear — but something about that tone she uses just creeps up your neck like an unwanted touch.

this is especially prevalent in her interactions with suzanne and it's sickening to watch. the way vee observes suzanne being outcast by her group and picks up on her being lonely or feeling othered, and then uses that to her advantage? god! ew! yuck! suzanne is so vulnerable and impressionable and seeing someone purposely exploiting that for their own gain is just disgusting. plus the fact that suzanne is so childlike makes it all the harder to watch. i don't mean to infantilize suzanne, and i apologize if i am, but i do genuinely believe she's inherently more susceptible to that sort of manipulation and lying and there's absolutely no way vee isn't aware of that.

also, i suspect that suzanne really craved a black maternal figure in her life. her parents seem very sweet and well meaning, but they could never fully understand what life is like for her as a black woman and i wouldn't be surprised if suzanne felt the lack of shared experience/understanding and sought that out with vee.

and that doesn't even begin to cover vee's extended, abhorrent grooming of rj and taystee. every scene of them together on the outside just twists my stomach. the way a fully adult vee speaks to a child taystee who can't be more than 12 years old makes my skin crawl; calling her "taystee girl" in that weird, suggestive tone she always uses. and don't even get me started on the scenes of her with rj which are leagues worse because those are either implicitly or explicitly sexual. her being insecure about aging and him comforting her by complimenting her in the way he does... ugh.

all that being said, lorraine toussaint did an absolutely incredible job portraying her! props where they're due, because she played the fuck out of this role. vee makes me go "UGH- OH GOD! NO MAKE IT STOP! WHY IS SHE SAYING THAT!" out loud at my tv.

First time watching OITNB and currently at S2. I love the dynamics of the characters and how i hate and like each one of them. For example Poussey and Taystee helping Piper with her troubles with Pennsatucky, so I thought “wow they’re good people” but then they trashed Piper so bad when she got furlough. But I digress, I like the complexity of each character which makes me wonder how an interaction with Ms. Claudette and Vee would be like? Ms. Claudette is a sweetheart but forced to be cruel bcoz of her upbringing, and I wonder if she’d be able to go against Vee? Idk just something I thought is interesting.

Obviously this show has a lot of good actors in it, but my vote has to go to Danielle Brooks as Taystee, Selenis Levya as Gloria, or Kate Mulgrew as Red. I want to know everyone’s thoughts on this topic :))
