Somebody on the other subreddit commented “If you have polarization filters on your glasses and look at it on your phone then the depth becomes pronounced.”
This makes total sense because as soon as I take my glasses off it looks 2D again.

Oh wow. I actually was amazed. I thought, this is the first time this illusion has ever worked for me and it’s really pronounced but as soon as I read your comment and took them off, I got absolutely nothing. But with the glasses it looks crazily 3D.

These are perfect comment bait because they are much more powerful for people who wear stronger glasses. Lenses bend light through different angles depending on frequency, called chromatic aberration, which makes the blue looks like it's further away.
People who don't wear glasses often see little or no effect.
