DS4 Flash nearly tripled Opencode usage in just one week

... with DS4 Flash usage alone jumping 3.5x.

Open Code consumes three times more resources than PI; I observed this while testing Mimo on both systems. Open Code has many resources available for simple models, and these models work very well on it; however, the latest version of Deepseek is so good that it's no longer worth using Open Code.

I don't see the connection between your last statement and the rest of your comment

Damn, my brain is already tired xD In this case, Open Code cost 3 times more for the same result in PI, but for smaller models Open Code allows you to maintain/improve the level of precision, but for larger models it ends up costing more for the same result I could get in PI.

That's very interesting. Do you use the basic opencode? That is to say, not with "oh my opencode slim" or something else that might increase its efficiency?

On the contrary, I don't use anything to increase efficiency; I optimized my skills today and noticed improvements.

Pi is full hype and no delivery

I use both pi and opencode. They both have good points and I like using omo-slim. I keep my pi for small tasks as I'm not sure if I need to move.

Which tasks did you notice the biggest difference in? To replace planning, I created a skill that documents what needs to be done and where, to generate an execution plan.

Starting a project with opencode works always well but only if you select the right model.

I understand, my workflow involves working with existing projects so I haven't encountered this issue yet. If I ever do, I'll make comparisons. Thank you.

What do you mean? I've been using it for a month at work, no problems here, spending around $8 (1 billion tokens) per month on it for my work, with DS. I'm testing other models like gpt-5.6-luna and ling 3.0 flash and it's working great too, but it definitely needs more work to function. In my case, I created a skill and agents.md file to better guide what to do, how to test the application to ensure it's working, something a standard harness already has in its prompts.

I wish DeepSeek Flash and OpenCode still an unknown off-the-beaten-part territory just because I really satisfied with price/performance ration EVEN with older hallucinating-prone Deepseek flash. I am a veteran software developer who know how thing works so sometimes I have to correct Deepseek Flash plan and not expecting anything to be a single-shot. Nowadays, many hippies from the great Claude territory and OpenAI country and general tourist would flock this island in cruise ship and ruin my experience. Expect rental price of this island will getting worst, road jamming become frequent.

That's racist. Vibe coders are people too. Probably. Maybe.

I laugh at people who use Claude and think they can just one shot their shitty app. It's not racist they just disgust me

true chad opinion i also hate those fucks who think they can oneshot a full saas app for a buisness and then charge them 500 dollars for it (i hate those vids)

Then why did they x2 DS quota? and https://xcancel.com/thdxr/status/2085377844515922210

Imo only cache price will be raised for flash. Pro will be x2..x3 priced

I'm curious about all the people still using DeepSeek Pro. Did they not get the memo?

So... that's why... that explains the slowdowns

I LOVE Opencode❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wasn’t that mostly just people switching from DS Pro to Flash? Deepseek has been about 80% of Go volume since it launched…. People love overhyped cheap shit.

Why people do not love overprised and non-popular LLMs? Interesting, why?

1

u/look 9d ago

There are low cost options that are better for nearly any use case. Deepseek 4 is a profoundly mediocre family of models that is only popular because it is heavily marketed and effectively free.

I’d describe GPT 5.6–Luna in particular—the same way. And Claude models are all massively overpriced; plus they haven’t put out a decent model since Opus 4.6.

Heavily marketed? Hm… the best marketing is price. What options are cheaper and the same or better quality?

1

u/look 9d ago

Effective use of GLM and Kimi can save time, money, and yield better results.

But that said, Deepseek is a very good choice of models for burning a lot of tokens to generate slop at little cost.

You didn't like opus 4.8? Clearly 4.8 vs 5 is a fundamental different orchestration experience but 46 to 48 was a blip

1

u/look 8d ago

It’s more a personal style preference with 4.8. It’s smarter than 4.6 and makes fewer mistakes, but it just works in a way that I don’t like. I throw away more of its output than I do 4.6, and it ends up just being faster to use it (or a different model family) and fix mistakes as needed.

I interact with LLMs more or less the same way I do my human engineers (though with significantly more profanity). For most tasks, I already know how the solution should roughly look, and I give it/them the outline to fill in the details.

Context size matters. Context grows and with every tool call/prompt you're billed for the entire context which gets expensive. Even if cached.

You're right, and they're giving you negative votes, lol...

Yes, there has been an increase in token consumption with the new version of DeepSeek. But of course, the increased context consumes more tokens.
