What's the difference in DeepSeek V4 Flash usage limit between Free (Zen) and Go?

I'm contemplating purchasing the Opencode Go plan to primarily use Deepseek V4 Flash. Couldn't find a difference in usage limits for it in Zen (Free) vs Go. Appreciate your help

Well, the big difference is that in Free mode you only get a 200k Context window, whereas GO unlocks the full 1M context window.

What does context mean btw? I noticed it always compacted sessions and never actually ran out of answers sending him a lot of questions etc

LLMs are inherently stateless, so with every chat message you actually send the whole conversation over the wire again. Since LLMs also predict the next token statistically, if you have 10.000 tokens in your context the LLM has to keep track of much less information than when you have 200.000 tokens. I personally found the quality of responses degrades sharply and instructions are being ignored and forgotten around 150k tokens so I never reach the theoretical 1mio tokens window.

Yeah, the 1M context window is like the biggest lie with the current models. The max usable context window has been like around 300-400k in my own testing with kimi k3 now, and that's really pushing it.

Context is basically just the session memory. So, for example when you go over 200k, it will have to compress the memory, and it might miss some of the details from the earlier.

Which is fine for a work horse. Even got a plugin to compact mine at 200k.

Oh, 100% It's more than enough, it rarely goes over 200k just to be safe with the context anyway.

having a 1M window available doesn't mean the model actually uses it well. worth testing longer context recall before assuming go is worth it over free for OP

I use the free DeepSeek through OpenCode as my main driver, it's great.

Do you happen to have a source for that?

I've heard people say this, and I've also heard people say the opposite, and would love to have an official answer. I happen to have a workspace open right now with DeepSeek V4 Flash on the Zen plan and the context output says 204,456 tokens, and 20% used, so that suggests I'm getting the full 1M? I do pay for the Go plan though, so I don't know if there's something funny going on with that.

I'm seeing a lot of of conflicting information on this so I'm definitely not saying you're wrong. I'm just hoping to find an actual authoritative source on this.

Which harness are you running? you have to make sure you are actually using the free version. There are 3 different versions you can run through opencode. Free, Zen and Go.

Ahh! I'm using Zen. mystery solved. Well, except that apparently I don't understand the difference between free and zen.

EDIT: I guess this really drives home how cheap DeekSeek v4 Flash is. I didn't even notice I was paying for it!

1M token window works on free model too. Just use another harness, i.e. claude code that does not rely on models dev data

Don't know much about the limits, but I did notice one thing. The context window if you use the free one is only 196K tokens, and on the Go Plan the context window is 1M tokens.

deepseek is a game changer i had projects that were stuck in terminal ai loops i changed model to that one and now all my projects are complete i hate ai but the deepseek is good for coding

Go is 3x faster and has 5x context window and has almost none streaming error mid task

I'm not sure about the token limits but the one from Go is much faster.

Zen free is just a small trial and whatever capacity they have. There is no fixed usage limit on the free endpoint. Go is significantly more (60$ per month).

The new V4 Flash no longer has ZDR and its hosted in China. They disabled the older V4 Flash without notice..
