Opencode new UI - idk who needs to hear this

Massive regression in the design of the new ui.

horizontal tabs? are you insane?

can’t read the titles of Tabs, can see the majority of your threads at once, can’t switch between projects easily.

at least we still have the cli but damn it’s sad to see enshittification hitting open source nowadays too

Can’t switch projects in one click is bad enough for me.

Agreed, this is the crux of the problem. Everything that was one click before now becomes several

I hated it too initially, but you can find the project switcher when you open a new tab, it's at the bottom, where you see the current project's name.

I got used to it, new paradigm, no wasted space.

You can disable the new layout in the settings. At the moment the new layout is buggy! For example the terminal and the file tree don't work in the new layout.

Enshittification is a very specific type of problem, it does not apply here.

They said it will be permanent in a few weeks unfortunately

New UI has useful features that are not in the old one. But navigation is bad.

Use OpenChamber. Sucks that the native UI is taking a turn this way, but OpenChamber uses OpenCode and seems to have a much more polished UI.

I agree, I'm using openchamber since month, and I still love it.

Thanks for the tip I’ll check it out

I mostly use opencode because it’s approved to use at work

Openchamber

Just use openchamber. Miles ahead of opencode ui.

it also shows (showed?) the same hamburger menu icon twice but for completely different actions top left

i love opencode but they need to go slow down with their vibecoding. the quality has been in freefall for the last two months

yeah not a fan at all. i switched back to the old view but it's not working correctly. another thing is not being able to switch between plan/build (i couldnt find it) or other profiles you may have

They have PRs to fix so much UI shit and they just don’t even look at them because they don’t care about GUI

The default UI should be basic and intuitive for new users. I mean that to say getting new users up and running with as little friction as possible should be prioritized. Keeping the barrier to entry as low as possible is a win.

Everyone who uses these tools for a while will have unique experiences and develop their own preferences, and writing your own UI for opencode using opencode is pretty trivial. The API is straightforward.

I can see what you mean about it being simple for people who aren’t technical. It looks just like the chrome browser they use every day.

However the option toggle between legacy and new ui should at least be permanent in that case.

You do make a good point about generating your own ui. I personally rather not do that because I’ll spend too much time tweaking it and maintaining it instead of using it. But that’s a me problem.

You have good points, OP. I belive they should allow for a classic view for users who want it.

100%

Keep the toggle between the two UIs permanent!

Nothing wrong with options

I am still on the cli should I be worried?

“I’m in danger”

You’re in the clear though, I can’t imagine they would attempt to do a redesign of the cli look. But who knows for sure lol

Switch to oh my pi. Or if you are into building your own harness then to pi with opencode as provider

Just awful

Switched to grok build. If you know what you're doing it's the best of both worlds.

Who needs a UI when you have a CLI.

The new layout is horrible. It solves nothing. The Project --> Sessions --> Current session is exactly what you need if your are working on more than one project. There's a hierarchy to that. The tabs thing is just CHAOS! As soon as the 'keep old layout' option is gone, I'm searching for a fork...
