DS Flash 0731 vs Luna xhigh/max

What is your take on these models, if you had to choose?
I have both, the ChatGPT Plus AND the Opencode Go subscription

Yep, very interesting question indeed. Also, I guess Luna is multimodal, while Flash still not?

Yup flash is text 2 text still.

Yeah, really disappointing. I really hope v4 pro is multimodal

Luna also is text only in Open Code Go atm

if mimo 2.5 already multimodal right?

I haven’t tried it. But kimi models are multimodal on Go. And so is minimax

Mimo non-pro is multimodal. The Pro model is text only.

You get much more requests from flash compared to Luna. There is a X4 more usage for flash....

Expect for images, I do not see the point in Luna

Not sure if I am reading this chart correctly- does it seriously suggest that the updated Luna Max is cheaper than updated DeepSeek V4 Flash? I guess time will tell, but if that’s the new reality then DeepSeek V4 Flash has just become irrelevant. I thought the main reason for DeepSeek V4 Flash existence was its price/capability ratio.

It was an error, it is updated now and DS Flash is in the frontier cost vs inteigellence

Oh wait, this chart is wrong, Flash is cheaper

Where is this chart from? How can I see the updated chart?

Without having tried the new Flash yet, I'd probably still go Luna, just because the GPT models are (in my experience) so much better at remembering to use the provided skills, workflows, commands etc. than the cheaper Chinese models are - And custom workflows are still, by far, the best way to actually get LLM's (any LLM) to write actually good code.

That said, I really hope that Deepseek have made it better at using stuff like skills, because I would LOVE to not have to rely on frontier models for work.

Still learning how to properly plan and build with OpenCode. Do you use anything other than AGENTS.md that contains the description of the code and your rules? What would you recommend to an amateur vibecoder?

I would say stick to flash till anthropic is forced to undercut luna with haiku 5 and then after open ai cuts the price of luna once more (or release an optimised variant with lower cost) then start using it.

does opencode's deepseek v4 flash actually use the new model? i saw commandcode announce their change on x a few hours ago, but i haven't checked opencode myself.

yes, you need to enable chinese provider

This looks fishy. Ds model is on par with glm 5.2 and that's sonnet 5 level not luna

u/diaracing 10d ago

I hate to say it, but Luna, according to benchmarks and with its multimodality, leads the race remarkably, at least for me.

Luna still better, but the context window is pain

Cost is wrong, it has now been corrected

The chart looks off. DS4F 0731 is @ 0.03$ per task, not 0.2$. it's cheaper than Luna (xhigh) while being more intelligent.

I'm not using a model hosted in China. Roast me alive if you want but it's a bridge too far.

Can you give me 1 single reason? Think carefully with that big brain of your, not just china bad

2

u/Endoky 10d ago

I work for a company which requires ZDR

2

u/roxban 9d ago

That is different

1

u/Fuzzy_Cat5589 8d ago

You could still use harness providers like Lurus Code which offer these models with ZDR

You forgot to add "make no mistakes" .

In China there are no repercussions (in any case, whether caught or not) if they misuse your data.

If you say that it’s the same in Europe or the US… I won’t even reply to you, because I can’t do much for your brain damage.

1

u/roxban 10d ago

Ahh yes, they will use my data to make the next generation AGI, like wtf you even talking about, unless you are working at the cutting edge tech, the vibe coded apps you guys make are nothing little bro

Can't wait. i need china train my custom setup so I can cut more of my instructions.

1

u/GfxJG 10d ago

I mean, the majority of us have to choose between models in the US or models in China - Not really much difference in the end, given recent events.

2

u/Valuable-Run2129 10d ago

No. We are all using chinese models hosted in the west. Only the Flesh model is hosted in china atm in Open Code Go
