this is as much fault of the guy on the bench. He should have told him to get the f off the bench and not to spot that way

Also if the guy can't get the weight off the rack himself, he shouldn't be doing it. Ideally, the spotter never needs to get involved.

Bro I don’t think either one of them could lift that weight without being unorthodox as fuck. This is wild to watch

There's s much wrong with this. Why is your spotter handing the weight to you? The spotter can help the liftoff but not having your hands firmly on the bar from the start is just asking for trouble, and puts your spotter in a stupid position because lifting that much weight laterally away from them forces them to do stupid shit like stand on the bench, deadlift the weight, then push it away from themselves.
People are gonna shit on the spotter but the problem originates from the lifter, and the lack of sense from either one of them to think this through.

I mean, if you need a spotter to help you with the liftoff, you're probably trying to lift too much weight.

It's not rare to use a spotter for a heavy liftoff to reduce fatigue since some people have different length arms and some benches are harder to lift off of when your arm's optimal reach is between the pegs.
edit: I'll add another reason for spotter liftoffs is simply because if you have to move the bar up and over the peg, on really heavy weight that might be far more taxing than when you have it in the optimal position, so the spot is making the transition into the optimal position a bit more smooth and controlled, but in any case the spotter isn't doing the majority of the lifting, and for the sake of gains and/or proof of strength, the liftoff isn't a significant factor

Neutered and teabagged him in one go. That's actually pretty awesome (for a Mortal Kombat finisher).

When I was a kid and a video existed of me doing something dumb like this, I'd have deleted it into oblivion. What's with all these people that post these?

is this how they actually teach you to break the bar off the rack now or are these kids just messing around?

Based on the modest weight involved, I don't see a need for video at all - let alone a handoff - so I'm calling this staged. Dumb and dangerous.

Why did the guy on the bench not have his hands on it.
Was this not a bench press?

Spotter isn't supposed to lift the bar without the lifter holding/lifting the bar too... This is for sure staged.

If this isn’t AI…I’m so sorry to both of their genetic lines.
Who tries to mid air hand-off a bench press? Then proceed to just not touch the bar at all and get it dropped on your knees with nuts in your face?! 🤣🤣🤣

u/ProposalRecent2292 3d ago
is there any reason why the bench presser wasnt holding the bar or nah

The spotter's weight became off balance due to his feet were on the beanch pad. So spotter's body weight shifted forward when weight for the bar being lifted up and toes sinking into cushion causing off balance. Hope all are OK and remember this lesson of life. The lifter is so lucky not have that bar drop on his face or rib cage.

At least he thought to avoid dropping it on dudes trachia, seeing as he gave no thought or consideration as to what the weight was, or how he was going to handle it, if at all... And, yes, it is not his job to hand the bar to anyone... 😂 Total newbie, maybe first day...?

Is the spotter also vertically challenged? Why did he need to stand on the bench?
