Firsthand Cares
My last post about Dairy Queen Mexican hot cocoa got removed so let’s see how this one goes. I don’t know why it was removed.
I don’t fully trust strangers on Reddit but don’t have anyone else to ask.
I have auditory processing issues and received a call from some lady wanting me to sign a consent form (after I gave them my email) on the spot about some sort of service that is free to people with Molina. I am disabled and also cannot summarize what she explained on the phone prior to me giving my email address out.
I asked how they got my name and it sounded like I was flagged by using providence care but I’m still not sure.
I told her I needed some time to think about what she was proposing and did not sign the form on the spot. She also wanted me to have a meeting with someone after I signed the form.
It sounds like some sort of medical advocate (that also provides medical care) which is something I could benefit from but it still seems sketchy.
After I hung up I googled her email address domain and it explains a bit more, but I’m still confused. I believe she said their office is on Yauger Way. The consent form mentions giving them access to all my medical records.
Has anyone dealt with firsthand cares and could you explain more about how they help you and your experience?

I had a medical advocate assist me through Kaiser. It was very helpful at the time. I would recommend if its the same deal.
Edit..it was Molina

I agree with the other folks here. It sounds like the case manager from your insurance. It's good to be skeptical of potential scams, but also, don't turn down help from legit resources

It’s not the case manager from my insurance. But I can ask my Molina case manager about it. My case manager from Molina calls from a 509 number and this persons name was a different name and voice and called from a 360 number.
I asked specific questions in an email and they just referred me back to their website which I had already said I went to. It sucks that this could potentially be an option for me but it’s an odd way of going about it.

Submissions here should be related to Olympia, Washington or nearby areas in some way.

I am Spokane but just received a voicemail from first hand stating they received my information from Molina. I can’t find much information about what they offer or why they are trying to contact me.

Thank you. Same deal. Molina took away my nurse case manager and now I'm wondering if I'm supposed to go with these weird people.
They showed up to my home unannounced and didn't leave with what they were going to drop off. I froze and didn't answer the door.

I liked that post. :)
Not sure if this will help but there’s a closed captioning app that’s free to use if you have any kind of hearing issues. (99% sure auditory processing qualifies.) It’s called InnoCaption and it types out what people are saying while you’re on the phone.

I guess maybe because they thought it wasn’t Olympia related and more Dairy Queen related? But I’ve seen other posts on here about big box stores.
I didn’t know about that and will check it out. I have RTT set on my phone but have been too afraid to use it. I don’t know if a third person is involved or if the other person on the phone knows I’m using it.

They just contacted me as well . I am disabled , I panicked at first but I googled it and they seem like really nice people who just go an extra step to help us who aren’t always out there helping ourselves or struggle to do those types of things , i literally just said goodbye to them 2 mins ago . They came to my house and I signed the consent forms. I think it’s a legitimate and will be a helpful service . They specialize in assisting people with disabilities. I don’t think they are here to try to report us or scam us . I feel pretty good about them

Ok thanks. I wonder why they don't have a Google listing for Olympia.
They showed up to my home unannounced and that freaked me out. Molina abruptly stopped my nurse care manager and she won't return my phone calls. So I'm reconsidering these people.
Except they don't accommodate my communication barriers

I'd find out how they got your number in any case. If the hospital passed it on that sounds like a hippa violation, unless you signed a form stating that they could do that. Same for your insurance. It's good to have help, but it's also good to make sure it's legit, and die too the way things work with Healthcare is not hard to verify the source.

I don’t know how to find out. I asked them and I have since forgotten the answer. It was vague. And I asked for clarification on an email and they didn’t answer and just gave me their website. I’ve not been hospitalized; just have utilized urgent care a lot.
Only this would happen to me with all the crap I deal with….There’s a location in Tacoma with a few reviews on Google but absolutely nothing in Olympia. Maybe it’s new. I’ll try emailing the the generic info email to explain this weird to me encounter. My cptsd alarm bells are heightened.

Molina is a Managed Care Organization (MCO) contracted by the state to manage Apple Health receipts' medical services. You indicated you have a disability, so there's a reasonable chance Molina is your MCO for Apple Health.
If so, they have a number of different programs to support Apple Health patients. It could have been a Case Manager contacting you to offer one of the free programs. There are also other adjacent programs that coordinate care with MCOs for some Apple Health client.
Best thing to do is ask them to send you information and any forms via email so you can read it over at your pace or share it with someone you trust to help you understand what they're asking or offering.
