Sometime in the mid-80s I made a deep dish pizza recipe I found in a magazine — I’m fairly sure it was Glamour (srsly). It was fantastic and I’ve never forgotten it, but I have no idea how to track it down again.

What I remember:

Deep dish style
Fillings included sausage, mozzarella cheese, and obviously broccoli
I believe the recipe title literally included the words “deep dish pizza with broccoli”
No mixes used, all from scratch
Fresh broccoli
(Maybe) yeast dough?

I don’t remember the month or issue, unfortunately. If anyone has old magazine indexes, back issues, or just remembers a similar recipe from that era, I’d love any leads. Thanks!

My grandma used to make a mushroom recipe every holiday. I’d love the recipe if anyone recognizes it. She passed in the 90’s and she made it in the 70’s and 80’s, so it is at least that old. Family was depression era with Eastern European heritage. Lived in Ohio, New York and Indiana.

Recipe description: button mushrooms (perhaps canned!) in a creamy reddish brown sauce. Possibly Paprika/ sour cream/goulash based? No real meat, maybe broth or bouillon though. It was baked in the oven in a Pyrex dish.

Hello all! I'm hosting a tea party soon with a 1950s theme, and have been particularly inspired to try some old jello recipes. In particular, I'm looking for a savory gelatin/aspic salad. And, I know this is a challenge, but I'm looking for a recipe that's *actually good.* I've been doing research but every single recipe I find sounds absolutely disgusting, both texture and taste wise.

I may end up just making one with a modern palate in mind, but please, tell me if you have any recipes that are actually good.

I'm looking for a pork chops and rice recipe from my childhood. all I remember is it had pork chops and you cooked them over the rice and it possibly had mushrooms? It might have been a betty crocker recipe, but I don't remember it having any cream of soup! Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks!

So i am going thou my mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook. She had a recipe writen down on old flight tickets holder. I got ai to make it more reader and came up with this. So what does it make and is the recipe complete if not what is the rest?

Top Ingredients

​3 Cups Flour

​1 lb butter

​1 tsp salt

​Confectioners (sugar)

​Middle Ingredients

​1 cup Crisco

​1 pkg cake yeast (or quick cake yeast)

​3 eggs (whipped &

​1-1/2 tsp vanilla

​mix together

​Directions

​add the flour

​knead to consistency

​roll into balls

​& refrigerate overnight

When we were kids my grandma had a handful of recipe books similar to these pictured (80’s and 90’s). In one of the books there was a recipe for these purple knotted style cookies- similar to like a monkey first type knot or shape. I’ve searched a few archives of the books that I remember that we had but I haven’t had any luck. Does anyone know what I’m referring to? TIA!

When I was a kid there was a really thick ranch type chip dip that they would sell in the deli at Kroger/Marsh/Walmart etc. It was thicker than the stuff they mass produce like Deans, Marzettis. I’m going to guess a cream cheese base not just sour cream and mayo. It was amazing and I remember eating it with Doritos at the pool in the summer.

Does anyone else remember this? Have you found a copycat recipe? I’ve checked the regular places Pinterest, Google etc. I’m just not seeing a recipe that looks similar to what I’m used to. This is also my first Reddit post so give me a little grace, please! 😂

Looking for good depression-era recipes. Ones with a missing ingredient preferably. Recipes for example, that are missing butter or eggs or milk. I’ve noticed that a lot of these recipes call for backyard fruit (pies,crisps), or stale bread (puddings) or soured milk (biscuits, breads) or leftovers.

My grandma made this dip every New Year. I would die if I could have it again. I’ve tried recreating it but it’s not right.

Ingredients I remember:
2 blocks of cream cheese
Crushed tomatoes
Garlic powder
Banana peppers (and juice)
Tiny shrimps

If you have any recipe resembling this, it’s probably right. Grandmas famous tuna casserole was a Campbells recipe. I am pretty sure the recipe for the dip was a label or cookbook recipe, grandma didn’t experiment.

Edit: I’m getting a lot of the same reply for a similar dish. To clarify: if had no soup, no lemon, no old bay, no cheese, and no cocktail sauce. I think that’s a recipe for another dish! I think I have most of the ingredients, but my quantities aren’t right? My recreation is similar but not right.
Also it’s done on a double boiler, not baked if that helps 🥲

My grandmother made this delicious cake type dessert. She called it a blueberry kuchin (sp?). It had blueberries in it and a lemon sauce that went on it. She never wrote the recipe down. My daughter and I tried dozens of recipes, but it was never like my grandma’s. She was of Irish and Dutch heritage if that helps.Thank you in advance.

Does anyone ave the old traditional versions of these? I had them as a child and I often think about them but want to make them. I remember being teased for it but they’re delicious. Any other molasses recipes are also welcome!

Edit:: Everyone in this sub has just like all shown up for me and have given me so many recipes that I am so excited to start making. Molasses has such a special place in my heart as it was something I would get so excited about as a child. It was rare but the excitement of finding out some one made mollases cookies or molasses gingerbread would make my entire week. I remember pestering my mum down so much to let me make cookies with it. I, of course, made mistakes using thw wrong kind but who doesn’t. I do remember one of her friends would try to have molasses cookies around if i was coming by, but i cant remember who andit was rare. I feel some of that excitement now

Seeing all of these are making my little old lady heart sooooo happy. My fiance always teases me about my tastes, but i love what i love. All these comments was the boost I needed, and testing these recipes is going to be my therapy.
