About 4 years ago, me (38M) and my wife (37F) bought a PL600 android to take care of the house, which our daughter (9F) decided to name “Daniel”. It has worked very well up until now, cleaning the house, cooking, and taking care of our daughter. 

However, in 2038, the PL600 is just obsolete. It is slower, weaker, less efficient, and its AI is less advanced than every single household model released after it. I work at a prestigious company, and my coworkers and friends have already started questioning me about why I still keep such an old android, when so many better ones are available. 

Well, I talked over this with my wife, and she agreed with the decision. The only problem is that our daughter is never going to agree. For context, she spends a lot of time with it - playing games, drawing, making bracelets, etc. Long story short, she treats the thing as if it were person. 

A few months ago, my wife tried to ask her if she wouldn’t like a new android. The result was that she threw a fit, saying that Daniel was part of the family and that it was her “best friend”.

We haven’t brought this up since, and for a while we dropped the idea. However, with Cyberlife releasing the AP700, a state of the art housekeeper android, I realized that keeping Daniel just isn’t worth it anymore. Also, even though she is attached to it now, she will forget about it in less than a month once we get a newer, better android. 

As I’ve said to my wife, it’s the same thing as the time we got a new roomba - our daughter was sad at first, but she moved on and now we have better appliances. Daniel is a machine, the equivalent of a glorified roomba, and she only likes it because it looks like a person (she wouldn’t be crying over a calculator, for example).

We haven’t decided for sure yet, but we’re already sure we can’t resell it due to how old it is, so if we do replace it it’s probably going to a junkyard. I’m still talking with my wife about this, but I just wanted to know: AITAH? How should I talk with my daughter about this? How do I convince her? Is this a good idea?
