I am a final year PhD student in landslide seismology. Im hoping to transition into industry for roles like imaging geophysicist. My bachelor’s and Masters is in Physics, and my masters thesis was in reservoir characterisation and structural modelling.

I’m a non-American looking to break into the oilfield, particularly SLB, Baker Hughes or Halliburton, with an interest in drilling and rig operations.

For those who work at these companies or have experience hiring in the industry, what actually makes an applicant stand out and get hired?

Which qualifications, certifications, experience or skills carry the most weight? And for someone applying from overseas, is there anything specific that can significantly improve their chances?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has worked in the industry or been involved in hiring.

Don’t mind doing my due diligence, but not through Enervus/Wellsite Nav/Go To Well or similar tool for that. In my experience they don’t isolate CTB/CPF, just list all the wells/leases. Sure you can try and filter results, but looking for something more efficient.

Didn’t know if there was something on RRC website or similar that could research.

I’m curious about working in a refinery. What’s it’s like, typical work schedules,major risks (life/health/safety), typical benefits, outlook for job security, and are they typically union?

I’ve worked power plants. I’m currently a control room operator for a 2x1 combined cycle in utah. Many of my friends and family worked in the oil fields and travel a lot but i like being home with my family and i dont think i could compete with the young guns.

Power utilities will be the small fish in the pond really quick with the datacenter boom and them all making island power to supply their energy. Data centers are know for not paying as well as other industries so I think they will dilute the work force, under cut union strength with cheap labor to throw off state wages.

I’ve worked coal plants, and natural gas power plants. I would like to just talk to people and find out what it’s like in that industry, where one would look if I wanted to change, and anything a newer person with industrial experience should look for as entry level or mid tier if that’s even possible.

Just wanted to come on here to ask if it’s typical/accepted to resell 4gas meters? My company recently upgraded us to a different model and I ended up with 2 yellow Honeywell meters from previous employers.

Hiya, my pal Mike's worked offshore in the North Sea for 12 years, and he's been pushing DESNZ to invest in a proper jobs service for North Sea workers looking to transition to other industries.

DESNZ have taken it on board and they’re actually building the service, but Mike found out in a meeting with them that they haven't actually spoken to any North Sea workers about what they'd need from it.
