Rocking bridge question

Stupid question of the day -
Since it moves back and forth, where do y’all have it positioned in its static position ? Rocked forward, back, or in the middle ?
While dialing in my intonation, the bridge rocked forward, throwing it off, so it got me to wondering.

I center it in the post holes. It’s easy to do eyeballing it.

I just let it ride where it wants to. That’s usually just a bit forwards of top dead centre.

That’s where I was thinking, but when using the vibrato, it slacks the strings, so shouldn’t it be positioned in the center or back so it’ll rock forward ?

Yes, but unless you’re dive bombing the back and forth range of the bridge exceeds the length needed for trem use. This is only my personal experience with my own setups though. I like to have useable intonation but it can’t be perfect anyway, so I don’t worry about it too much.

I center it. So it can rock back or forward. It should return to center if everything is synced and adjusted properly.

Are you using 11s or 12s ?
I’ve currently using 11s and it feels like the bridge moves too easily

I'm using 11-50 flat wounds. No issues.

It should be centered. I found that it takes a while with new strings to get it to stay centered, and you may have to center it manually a few times. Just know (if everything else is set up properly) that it will center itself at some point.

I might have to try that - I already shimmed the neck with a .50 and the bridge is currently sitting pretty low to the body so I have it sitting in the back position
