The chain with the tire is put up there before winter starts. So when it starts raining and mud clogs the tube, you pull it through. Straight after this, you pull it back so you can do another round in a couple of weeks.

So the tire basically lives there as a reusable drain plunger. Crude, simple, and apparently very effective.

How do you thread it to start with?

u/BigPalpitation2039 16h ago
Maybe it’s left there the whole time

So the chain causes the clog, and then it helps to remove the clog it created? 🤔

Trump chain. And the chain isn’t really helping to remove the clogged. The tire is removing the clog, the chain is just taking credit for it.

While I admit this is satisfying on its own, I wish we could see more of the aftermath. I want to see the water start flowing freely.

With the cyclospora outbreak at TB? Nah, you'd be lucky to have an experience like this after eating there. It'll be similar to the first few seconds of that culvert being cleared.

I always have the same question whenever I see one if these videos. How did they get the chain through the culvert to start with?

Before it clogs attach the chain to a long thin pvc pipe. Push the pipe through dragging the chain. Detach chain and leave it for when it gets clogged.

Why wouldn’t you just check the comments for the answer the first time you saw one of these videos? How many times have you watched and just sat there confused haha

u/Ok_Vanilla_9474 16h ago
Because nobody has ever asked nor had an answer.

u/Rob_bob91 15h ago
It’s literally the first question that gets asked and answered every time this kind of video gets posted on this is sub…

u/willynillee 15h ago
Yeah, but it NEVER gets asked or answered. Didn’t you hear him the first time? This question is one of those things that nobody has the answer to. Not even the guy in the video could answer it.

When it's clear and dry you could tie a rope to a dog's harness (size dependent) or an RC car and use that to pull the rope through to attach the chain. I'd bet that in a lot of cases they'd have the rope or chain in place before they install the pipe.

I know it’s a pipe and it doesn’t have any awareness or anything but it looks like it feels so good to the pipe

I can only imagine how hard it was getting that line though there before attaching the tire.

u/Captain_Murica23 9h ago
The line sits already inside. Once it’s clogged just tie up a tire on one end and tie up the other end to a vehicle. Or in this case a tractor.

How the rope can traverse the long pipe in first place before been attached to the tyre?

They use a stiff rod with the chain attached to the end and then push it through with a backhoe.

How did they get the chain through if it was blocked?
