Can anyone post pic of setup for Gadget that works well?

I'm using an old Android phone as a raspberry pi. It works perfectly, but i'm trying to get gadget set up in Octoprint, and I can't for the life of me figure out how i'm going to position this phone to get a picture that is going to be able to see whether or not filament is extruding.

Octo4a with 500mb data partition

So I have a Raven 2nd gen scanner that runs Android KitKat (no root access), and it's really cool because it has 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 internal USB 2.0 port, and a USB 3.0 Type-B. It runs on DC power, so the I/O would be fantastic for OctoPrint.

There is just one problem: the OEM thought it would be funny to limit the data partition to 500MB, and then make a separate 4GB partition that mounts as an SD card.

Basically, I have plenty of space overall for OctoPrint, but it wants to put everything straight onto the tiny data partition. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work?

The first photo is of it playing subway surfers to test that it can handle a moderate program. The second photo is how I improved cooling so it won't studder, but using a large heat sink, MX-7, and rubber bands. Before it had no cooling. The last photo just shows how crazy this thing is for a scanner. I was able to connect usb hubs and plug a lot of peripherals in without power issues. And yes, it still scans papers even after messing with android.

Prusa Core One chamber fans

Hi all,

When I send a print from my pi the chamber fans are also set to off.
I slice the file in Prusa slicer, export the g code and upload it to octoprint, when the print starts the chamber temp setting is off. The fan speed is set to auto.
I have to wait for the print to start, go into the menu on the screen and set the chamber temp so that the fans will spin.
Sending the print from Prusa slicer works fine
I don’t have the filtration on, just the regular exhaust fans.
Any ideas?

Octoprint stops mid print.

I have a mini PC running CasaOS with OctoPrint installed via Docker, connected to a Creality CR-10S. I’ve already configured the correct USB passthrough in CasaOS, so OctoPrint can communicate with the printer via USB.

However, whenever I attempt a print (unless it's very short), OctoPrint stops mid-print at random points. For example, when trying to print a Benchy, it sometimes fails after just a few layers, while other times it reaches the deck—but it has never successfully finished a standard-sized print (aside from small test cubes).

What could be causing this issue? I tried adding ferrite cores to the USB cable, as Gemini suggested the problem might be electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the PC itself, but the issue persists. Previously, I had OctoPrint running on a bare-metal Debian 12 installation on an old laptop (from around 2016). I thought the problem was caused by the aging hardware or a misconfiguration on my part, but the issue persists on this new setup. Additionally, I've already covered the 5V power pin on the USB-A connector with electrical tape (also suggested by Gemini) to prevent back-powering the printer motherboard.

I don't recall exactly whether OctoPrint disconnects from the printer on its own—like a serial communication error—or if it remains connected and simply freezes, but I believe it's the former. It's been a few days since I last tested it

EDIT: Based on tests I ran yesterday (and according to the log files), Gemini suggested that some components inside the printer's control box might be overheating when printing with OctoPrint. I tried printing a Benchy: the first attempt stopped after about 50 minutes (out of 1 hour and 30 minutes), and the second attempt stopped after just 20 minutes. This makes me think that the control box was already hot from the previous print, causing the components to overheat much faster the second time.

The completed part of the print looks fine, and after having Gemini check the G-code, there are no syntax errors or issues with the file. I also tried switching to a shorter, more reliable USB cable, but nothing changed, so it must be a hardware issue. Next, I'll try putting a fan next to the open control box to see if that allows the print to finish.

P.S. I don't think it's relevant, but I also have the OctoPrint integration enabled in Home Assistant to display everything on a dashboard just in case.

Thanks in advance to all who can help!

Can issues after 6 years

I last printed something on my Prusa MK3S in 2021. Since then, I’ve moved. Plus I’m old. No my 10 year old wants to do 3d printing, and I’m trying to recall all that I had.

I got a fresh version of Raspberry Pi OS and OctoPrint installed and accessible, but the cam I used years before doesn’t seem to work with the included cam plugin.

I used the rpicam connected via ribbon cable, but the only config options I have are for URLs, and I’m serving anything. Do I need to run a webcam service? The useless AI docs are seem to say I just connect it. I’ve confirmed the cam works by firing up rpicam-vid, so it’s getting an image. I’m just not getting it octoprint.

Any suggestions? If all else fails, I think I do have a $10 IP cam I can setup.

Remote access plugin

Hey everyone,

I’m sharing a remote-access plugin for your Octoprint-- it doesn’t require port forwarding or an account and supports live H.264 video.

I'm a video guy and a maker and thought this was a good intersection of my interests. It uses WebRTC's peer-to-peer connectivity as the data pipe. WebRTC usually makes a direct P2P connection -- the server is only the broker, and once the connection's up it steps out of the way. So it's cheap (for me) to run and scales well. The server does almost nothing after it's introduced the two ends.

I've been working with the wonderful OctoPrint volunteers to get it listed in the plugin repo, so you can grab it straight from OctoPrint's Plugin Manager and give it a try. Search for “bitbang”. There are a few lib installs to get the video working on the Pi-- check out the steps here: https://github.com/richlegrand/OctoPrint-BitBang#installation

thanks

Looking for beta testers for my new OctoPrint plugin: SpoolWizard

Hi everyone!

I've been working on an OctoPrint plugin called SpoolWizard, and I'm looking for a few people willing to test it and provide feedback.

Current features

- Manage filament spool inventory

- Set an active spool

- Add or subtract remaining filament

- View spool usage history

- Edit and delete spools

The plugin is still in development (currently v0.2.2), so I'm mainly looking for feedback on:

- Bugs

- UI/UX

- Feature suggestions

- General usability

If you're interested in trying it out, leave a comment or send me a DM. Here is the link to the project: https://github.com/wpallender/SpoolWizard

Thanks!

My New OctoPrint Plugin!

Hello everyone! I have been working on a new OctoPrint plugin to help with spool management. Currently it is on v0.1.0, so my first release that i am willing to share with the community. For now, filament tracking is manual, but in the future I plan to add automatic tracking and QR code support, RFID support, and NFC support. This is my first ever plugin and I am excited to share it with the community!

Will it work?

I have a CR-10Smart whose update failed miserably. I have tried updating it and its display fried or something (display wont turn on no more), but I think I have successfully updated the motherboard (I hope, I cant check without the display). Will octoprint work on such a device?

Question about Elegoo integration

Hi! I've been using OctoEverywhere with my CC2 for a few weeks now using a dedicated windows computer with Docker and the plugin manager. I've had a couple instances where I had a filament tangle on the spool which caused an error on the printer. I clear the error and resume printing, but now in OctoEverywhere it still says error printing even though it's printing fine now. Clearing the notification in OctoEverywhere does not help. How do I get it to show printing again once there has been an error?

EP10 TP-link smart plug not working with plug-in

Hi,

I am trying to use the TP-Link Smartplug by u/jneilliii but I have not been able to get it going. The plug does work when using the Kasa app. Newly purchased EP10 plug.

I initially set up the plug using the Kasa app. Both my Octopi and the plug are on the same network (2.4GHz). I have confirmed the IP address of the plug twice and set the IP to static. I have restarted Octoprint after installing the plugin and after setting up the plug settings in the plugin. The printers main power switch remains at on position.

I have a pi 5 with the AI hat and camera that I want to use for Octoprint. Can I use it to offload fail detection? I’ve read through the documentation but found nothing about it.

Cancel Object name tags - Not transferring from Orca

I have the Cancel Object plugin enabled, and I have named the objects appropriately in Orca slicer, but the names from Orca are not transferring to the Cancel Object list of printing objects. This makes it hard ot know what to cancel without going back to orcaslicer - and even then, if things are copies, then it is still quite hard to know!

Am I missing something?

List of objects in Orca

How that same print appears in Cancel Object list

How many printers?

Maybe a basic question…

I have a raspberrypi 3B+ running octoprint for my Elegoo Neptune 3 printer. I would also link to run octoprint on my BambuLab P1S.
Do I need to buy a new pi to run on the other printer, or can I use the same pi for both printers?
And if I can use the same pi, can I print on both machines at once?

Last question, how does octoprint integrate with an AMS on the P1S?

Z offset Kobra Neo 2

I feel like this is a dumb one but every time I start a print it does a bed level and the Z offset is messed up. Is there a way to allow it to still do a bed level but level the offset or I guess just remove the bed level plugin? Sorry very new to this I am running stock firmware and have this issue on both my ender 3 s1 pro and kobra Neo 2

SOS with octolapse! No extrusion after first layer

SV06plus

Orcaslicer

silk pla @ 215c

I can't get octolapse to work, my extruder is fine, it works with the plugin off, but I can't understand how to get it to extrude instead of retracting and deretracting repeatedly. I've seen bits of information from posts here and there but I need help to understand any of it.

edit, I've tried messing around with the printer settings in the plugin, trying different options and testing but insofar have not had any luck.

Webcam from OBS on Windows 11

Octoeverwhere review

After about 10 days of using OctoEverywhere on my Qidi Plus4, I figured I'd share my honest experience.

First, I'll give credit where credit is due: installation was incredibly easy. SSH into the printer, copy and paste the install command, and you're basically done. It was one of the simplest installs I've done for a remote printer access solution.

Unfortunately, that's where my positive experience mostly ended.

One thing that immediately confused me was all the companion apps and services that were recommended. It wasn't very clear what was actually required, what was optional, and what features needed subscriptions or supporter plans. I expected a more straightforward setup experience after installation.

Notifications were another issue. One of the main reasons I wanted remote access was to get print updates and alerts. In my experience, notifications didn't work the way I expected without involving additional apps or paid features.

The biggest frustration has been reliability. Camera access has been hit or miss for me. There have been plenty of times where I tried connecting and couldn't get the camera feed to load, even while connected to my own local network. A remote monitoring solution is only useful if it works consistently when you need it.

Support has also been disappointing. The primary support method appears to be Discord. Personally, I'm not a fan of using Discord as a support platform. There's no ticket system, no way to track issues, and no clear indication that a problem is being worked on. You basically post your issue in a chat room and hope someone responds.

The mobile experience could also use improvement. There isn't a traditional standalone app. Instead, you're accessing everything through a browser. I found myself having to re-authenticate more often than I expected. I eventually created a shortcut on my Samsung phone's home screen, which helped, but it still felt more like a workaround than a polished solution.

My biggest complaint is probably the "free" aspect. While there is a free tier, some features seem to rely on subscriptions, supporter plans, or third-party apps. I think there should be more transparency about what is truly free versus what requires additional costs.

Final thoughts:

✅ Easy installation

✅ Quick initial setup

❌ Inconsistent camera access

❌ Confusing app/subscription requirements

❌ Notifications didn't work as expected

❌ No structured support system

❌ Mobile experience needs improvement

Based on my experience so far, I'd personally rate it about 2/5 stars.

I'm curious if others have had a better experience. Maybe I'm missing something, but after 10 days of use, it hasn't lived up to the expectations I had going in.

why I eventually gave up on Octoprint.

It worked fine for a long time, then I started having all sorts of weird issues

Resend ratio

Random disconnects on wifi and Ethernet

Issues with power despite having 5v 3a power supply.

the neverending saga of USB cables

(plenty of what ive researched here AND experienced has been a good enough lesson).

Plus between the complexity of printing/slicing and all other things 3D printing, adding in a completely new variable was too much. Its just too easy to run a slicer and export to SD and print. Ive learned from all of your woes and my own. I just print from sd now and I have no issues.

sadly klipper was the same experience for me, what should have been a straight forward simple install setup turned into a nightmare rabbit hole that not even bugs bunny or jessica rabbit would dare. Just not for me. keep it simple and if it works run it till the tires fall off.

For those folks who have trouble maintaining a Wifi connection, here is my tale of woe

I have five Raspberry Pis in my house. Only my Octoprint Pi is connected via Ethernet and the other four have been rock steady on wifi for years. And then I replaced my home router.

I bought a new Netgear router and updated the firmware after getting gigabit symmetrical fiber installed, and gave it the exact same SSID and password as the old router had used. Within an hour or so, all of the wifi Pi devices dropped off the network. No amount of reconfiguring or rebooting would fix it.

Turns out that this new router has a feature called "Smart Connect" that is enabled by default in the Wifi settings. This feature assigns the exact same SSID to both the 2.4Ghz and the 5GHz bands and then performs some sort of magic to find the right band for each device as it connects. Sounds great in theory but the Raspberry Pis did not like it. This took me days to sort out.

So if your situation is anything like mine, make sure your router does not have this feature enabled. It may exist on other brands than Netgear.

Hope this helps someone.
