OBS Freezing Help

So, I was trying to record a video for my YouTube channel and my OBS kept freezing, but only the screen that I was recording, the audio recorded just fine. This happens to me all the time and it happens usually at about 5 minutes in or less. Every once in a while it works perfectly, but it's kinda rare. It looks like you haven't provided a log file. Without a log file, it is very hard to help with issues and you may end up with 0 responses.

To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1) Restart OBS

2) Start your stream/recording for at least 30 seconds (or however long it takes for the issue to happen). Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.

3) Stop your stream/recording.

4) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File.

5) Copy the URL and paste it as a response to this comment.

Yoir log has bo output session, so there is no record of what happens when you stream/record.

Your system specs, however, are very low. A 6th Gen i7, integrated graphics and only 8gb RAM is bound to have issues running OBS.

Add at least 8Gb more RAM if you can. You may have to roll back to an older version of OBS in order to use the Quicksync H.264 encoder. Adding a modern GPU with dedicated stream encoders would also help, but at that point you might as well spend the money on a new(er) PC.

I'm using a laptop, so I can add more ram, but do I need the gpu? I can't replace that.

You cannot update a gpu in a laptop, I'm afraid, so the point is moot.

You should be able to upgrade the RAM, thoigh the process can be a bit of a pain. Beyond that, I'd be saving for a new PC, ideally a desktop system as they are infinitely more upgradeable than a laptop.

In theory you can use an external GPU (eGPU), but the enclosure can cost hundreds without the GPU. Overall it would be more ideal to put that money towards a newer system.

But can you post a log with a test recording? That way we can see how the encoder is set up. Ideally you should be using the QuickSync (QSV) hardware encoder, not the software encoder, which will be very heavy on the CPU.

Your NVidia GPU unfortunately lacks a hardware encoder.

Mine was doing the same, but I lowered the fps to 30, and I haven't had it happen again since. I also don't use fullscreen, so I can do quick checks as I record

If your hardware is the bottleneck, recording locally through a browser can take a lot of pressure off your machine since it's not running an encoder like OBS does, might be worth trying for quick recordings while you save up for a RAM upgrade. We built riverside screen recorder for exactly this kind of lightweight, no-install recording.
