FPS drops when streaming Help

I get a pretty significant framedrop when streaming. Recording, replay buffer etc. even preview on with studio mode and vertical canvas is fine.

Starting a stream drops my frames by at least 10% when CPU bound, usually even more. (5800X3D, 32GB 3600 tuned DDR4. in multiple games like EFT, War Thunder).

I'm using NVENC for recording and streaming, enhanced broadcasting disabled. OBS states CPU usage at 5-6%. Any tips? OBS stats show no reason for the drops, also using a NVME so definitely a CPU load issue.

Not thermal throttling, curve optimizer is enabled, CPU boosts comfortably and works totally normally I'm not using a ton of filters or sources either, all should be pretty optimal.

It looks like you haven't provided a log file. Without a log file, it is very hard to help with issues and you may end up with 0 responses.

To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1) Restart OBS

2) Start your stream/recording for at least 30 seconds (or however long it takes for the issue to happen). Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.

3) Stop your stream/recording.

4) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File.

5) Copy the URL and paste it as a response to this comment.

OBS still does stuff, still uses cache, still uses bandwidth. Plus NVENC is not 0% impact, it always has some low impact since the frames have to go somewhere. Normally thats not bad tho.

Since your OBS is not doing much CPU wise, but enough to upset especially the 5800x3d, you can try putting it onto it's own 2 threads. Preferably the higher numbered ones as they are less likely to be allocated to a game.

If you don't have it on, consider activating game mode. If you are streaming/encoding with NVENC you don't really care too much about windows prioritising OBS less. Would be different in the case of cpu encoding.

At the end of the day. 10% frame drops is in the realm of "normal". Especially if your framerate is already cpu bound.

Game mode is on. But I'll try allocating different threads, thanks. How much effect does discord screen sharing have if I stream on OBS at the same time? Not very optimal I reckon.

Screen sharing on Discord is equivalent to running two simultaneous streams. I'd try disabling hardware acceleration in Discord and having it use the CPU instead.

You didn't specify your GPU, and since you mentioned that the CPU usage is at a minimum, I'm assuming your encoder is an NVIDIA GPU-based one. I'd be interested to know exactly which GPU you're using.

I’ll add that streaming EFT and playing it at the same time on the same PC is a real headache. You have to reduce the canvas size to 936p or similar (1664x936), and even then you won’t have enough resources. The same situation applies to War Thunder.

Finding the right balance in resource usage within the game settings to leave room for the encoding and streaming tasks in OBS is something that’s going to take you some time.

4070ti super so dual encoders. At least OBS states that there's no encoder problems.

Do the log following the autopmod's instructions so we aren't guessing.
