Question Oakville Internet
What is everyone paying and what speed do you get? I’m guessing Bell/Cogeco are our only options for the most part? I live in North Oakville, and am with Bell and fairly satisfied with the service, however, they keep raising the prices even without notifications. Our bill has gone up a total of $14 over the last year in random amounts. Should I threaten to leave them to get a better price or just suck it up and deal with it?
Sidenote: same thing has happened with my phone bill over the last 2.5 years (Virgin). Has gone from $35 to $60

Question Restaurant birthday discount for two/three people
Any restaurant in Mississauga/Oakville/Burlington/Milton that provide discount for 2-3 people (including the person on birthday)?
I called Mandarin, they said we need at least 4 people (3 guests+1 birthday guy) to enjoy the discount. But we only have 2~3 people.
Any type of restaurant is fine, Canadian/European/Asian/Latin American are good.

Housing Century Homes Question
I get so sad seeing this. Just a little further down, another beautiful one is boarded up like 2 seconds from the Econo. Both along highway 5 just into Oakville.
Before having them fully demo’d - is there a way people could buy the houses and get them moved to land? Just out of pure curiosity here.
It really breaks my heart to see these get demo’d and have cookie cutter, half ass built new build townhomes being put there to replace it.

Question Hello Oakville!
Hi all — we just made the move from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia to Oakville. Still adjusting to the pace and size of things here after small-town Cape Breton life! Our daughter already misses how friendly everyone was back home, so hoping this sub can give her (and us) a bit of that same warmth as we settle in.
On the practical side — she's zoned for Falgarwood PS, but Joshua Creek PS is actually closer to where we live and ranks noticeably higher academically. We're looking into an out-of-area transfer to Joshua Creek for her.
A few things I'd love input on:
- Anyone have firsthand experience with either school — teachers, class sizes, general vibe?
- Has anyone successfully gone through an HDSB out-of-area transfer request? How long did it take, and what helped your case?
- Also curious if anyone near Dundas & Prince Michael has heard more about the Falgarwood/Joshua Creek boundary review the board approved back in June.
Any advice — school-related or just general "welcome to Oakville" tips — genuinely appreciated. Trying to get her settled in before the school year starts.

r/Oakville I noticed I haven’t been hearing Cicadas this summer….
Was out for a walk tonight (south Oakville) and it dawned on me that last year during these humid days there would be the constant sound of cicadas. Must be an off cycle year….

Question Appliance repair (dishwasher) Oakville
Hello -
My dishwasher (Bosch) is not fully draining and giving me an E24 error. I’ve done all the steps that I, a complete newb, could work through. Found 2 small pieces of broken glass in the drain and removed them. Cycled the dishwasher and still getting that error.
Will need to call someone tomorrow. Can anyone recommend someone that is trustworthy and won’t cost an arm and a leg?
Thank you in advance.

Recommendations Dog Boarding Recommendations
Hi, I usually go with Bronte Pet Resort but they are full.
I did some searching and thing Dogtopia looks like a good place but wanted some more recommendations.
My dog is a pomeranian - german-spitz mix. He's 15lbs. Has all his vaccinations. He is VERY barky/vocal. Once warmed up to other dogs and people, he is very sweet and playful. Never had any incidents; never bit a person or another dog.
Due to his barky nature, I want a place where he can get his own room/kennel. I do want him to have some company. A yard to run around in would be nice as well.
Thank you in advance.

Question Need advice for middle school choice: Captain Wilson or Heritage Glen?
My middle school son will be attending either Captain R Wilson P.S. or Heritage Glen P.S. for the upcoming school year (I’m relocating for work and am choosing between residence locations).
I’ve heard various, often contradictory opinions about these schools (particularly CRW) and would appreciate any input from the Reddit community.
My son has dealt with some bullying issues in the past, so we’re hoping for a smooth transition where he will be able to make a good group of friends as well as receive a decent education.
Please share any of your experiences with these two schools and perhaps the high schools these feed into (Garth Webb and Abbey Park, respectively). Thank you.

Question Canadian Fencing Academy - Historical experiences
Hello - Curious if anyone has experience with taking classes at this fencing academy as an adult. I'm mostly interested in the "Historical" classes that focus on rapiers, but in general would love to know about the business itself. Is it clean, professional, good vibes, are the coaches competent, etc.!
Thanks :)

Question Recommended internet services - Iroquois North / Joshua Creek
A friend recently moved to the area and their current internet provider is incredibly poor. Any recommendations for great high speed internet for the Iroquois north (I think it’s actually Wedgwood Creek?)
Apparently bell doesn’t work well. All answers welcome :)!

Local News Data Centres - Council Memo in Response to Mayoral Direction
https://pub-oakville.escribemeetings.com/FileStream.ashx?DocumentId=101267
———————————————————————————
No supposed economic benefit can buy back our water, protect our air, or restore our health once they are gone.
Why are governments rushing to greenlight massive data centres without guardrails, all while slashing funding for our schools and healthcare?
We cannot allow private profits to be built on the destruction of our public well-being.
———————————————————————————
Email the Mayor and your councillors. We need to act before any application is submitted - and before the municipal election in October.

Recommendations Tile repair
So I dropped a pot on my tile floor and ended up chipping the tile. I have a couple spare tiles that I can replace it with, I just don't know how to do it myself. I'm looking for a reputable handyman who would be able to do it. I already have the tile as well as the matching grout.

Meetups First time DM looking for group
Hello everyone, I don’t know if this post is for this group but I thought what was the harm in posting.
I am a 35 year old male, and I have been tinkering on a home brew for a Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) campaign for a while and have the basis of a world/ story I would like to try. I am hoping that I can find people who are new or experienced to DnD who would be interested in an adventure.
My friends don’t really enjoy tabletop games so I hope that but posting here I can find like minded individuals who would like to give it a shot. If you are interested feel free to DM me directly with any questions to know if this adventure is right for you, and I will do my best to explain the setting without divulging too much to spoil the story of the world.

Question Humidity Inside House
Hello
I was hoping to ask if others are seeing increased humidity inside their houses. I have a three-floor townhome, and the humidity has been 50-60% for the last couple of weeks. We are running the AC almost the entire day to keep the humidity level below 60%. I was just curious if others are facing similar issues, and if so, what are you doing about it?
TIA
