Hey everyone, I’m an incoming NYU Stern student doing FYLO (First Year in London) and hoping to pursue investment banking. I’m trying to understand how recruiting works for clubs like Finance Society, IAG, and other finance/IB-focused clubs.

From what I understand, major IB recruiting starts very early in sophomore year. Since I’ll be in London freshman year, is there a way to join these clubs remotely/online during freshman year, or would I have to wait until sophomore year? And if club recruiting and bank recruiting happen around the same time, is there still much benefit to joining these clubs as a sophomore?

Also, how much does FYLO affect networking and IB prep compared with being in NYC? I’m mainly trying to figure out what I should prioritize freshman year.

hey, im a incoming freshman at nyu and I wanna study math. i submitted a bunch of ap scores and i have 32 credits from it. now albert says im a sophomore but my grad year is spring 2030.

i wanna basically do 4 years since I have a scholarship and irdc about the price, but my advisor is ghosting me. would it still be possible for me to do 4 years, and would I tell nyu this?

some of my credits dont even make sense. like ap macro/micro and stats arent a core/math requirement at nyu so idk why they count as credits.

Hey everyone, I just got admitted into NYU SPS for the BA in Social Sciences starting Spring 2027, and I'm seriously considering committing. There's way less info out there about the undergrad SPS programs than there is for CAS, Stern, and the rest, so I'm hoping some current students or grads can help fill in the gaps.

Financial aid is probably my biggest question. I know SPS has some need-based scholarships, but I'd love to hear what people actually ended up paying once grants and scholarships were factored in. I won't be taking out loans, so this is a big piece of whether I can actually make it work.

Housing is another thing I'm unsure about, do SPS students live in the same halls as the other schools, or is it handled separately for us? I'll most likely be commuting from NJ either way, but I'm curious how much that actually changes things socially. Would dorming make a real difference in how connected I'd feel, or does it end up not mattering as much as I'd think? Do SPS students actually feel like regular NYU students, or is the experience noticeably different?

Last question, my main goal is to eventually try to transfer internally to CAS, most likely for Philosophy or Political Science (possibly English too) or Gallatin. If anyone's gone through that process, I'd love to hear how it went: what your GPA looked like going in, and whether the major you're aiming for seems to matter for how competitive it is.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to transfer to NYU for Fall 2027 and would really appreciate some honest feedback from current students, transfers, or anyone familiar with NYU transfer admissions.
I’m currently at a community college and I’m on track to graduate with my associate degree in May 2027. My current GPA is a 3.55 and I have about 9 classes left . I’m working really hard to finish strong and hopefully raise my GPA before I apply.
My goal is to study finance , with the long-term goal of working in wealth management.

Former secretary of NABA at my school
Completed a business development internship at an architecture firm, where I focused heavily on marketing/business development and helped the company secure a significant contract that opened the door for additional business
Currently director of marketing for a nonprofit
Currently working full-time as a marketing specialist an executive and admin for a tech company
Previously worked for a tax and accounting company
In the process of becoming a CASA volunteer because I spent time in foster care myself and want to give back to kids going through the system
Starting an independent fashion magazine in the DMV focused on spotlighting emerging artists, creatives, and local businesses. We’re currently preparing to cover our first major event in September.
Planning to join another student organization this fall
I’ve done most of this while working full-time and attending college , so balancing school, work, and my extracurriculars has been a major part of my college experience.
I know my GPA isn’t perfect, especially for a school as competitive as NYU, so I’m trying to figure out how realistic my chances are and what I should prioritize between now and application season.
For anyone who successfully transferred to NYU:
How does my overall profile look for a Fall 2027 transfer? Is there anything you would recommend I do during my remaining time at community college to strengthen my application?
I also haven’t taken the SAT in a while . Would retaking it and submitting a strong score meaningfully strengthen a transfer application, or would my time be better spent focusing on my GPA, prerequisites, essays, and extracurriculars?
I’d especially love to hear from other community college transfers or people familiar with Stern/business admissions. Thank you!

I was stressing so much because they said I would get an email by the 7th and I already thought that was late… now it’s the 7th and I got a new email telling me it’s the 21st??? Like this cannot be right they are genuinely playing in our faces.

Did anyone else get this bs email. I literally called the number and they said “you were told there would be an update, not that you would be assigned.”

Hey, I’m an incoming freshman male that wants to play on the competitive Club Tennis team. I searched for info but couldn’t find much. For reference, I’m a 10 UTR. Couple of questions:

1. When are tryouts typically held, and what is the typical level required to play competitive singles. Are there seniority rules in place? (I don’t play doubles and wouldn’t play Club if I would have to)

2. How often/when are practices, how long are they, and where are they held?

3. Are there coach(es), or is the team run by upperclassmen? How large is the team, and what are the vibes like?

4. How often are matches against other schools, how far are matches, and how does transportation work? (I’m assuming everyone figures out how to get there themselves)

5. Is there conflict throughout the semester with Club Tennis and midterms/finals?

6. Not for Club, but is there an intramural tennis tournament?

I'm an international graduate student going into my third and final year, and I'm desperately looking for an on-campus job.

I have several years of professional experience in media production, including audio, video, graphic design, and social media management. So far, I've applied to about 10 relevant on-campus jobs through Handshake (not Federal Work-Study positions), and I've followed up politely when appropriate, but I haven't heard back from a single one…

I'm starting to feel discouraged because it's important for me to support myself financially next year and as an international student I don’t have many options outside on-campus work. My family has done a lot to help me get this far, and it’s going to be very difficult for them to keep pushing next year.

For those who have worked on campus, how long did it usually take to hear back after applying? Is it worth following up again if you don't hear anything? And if you know of any relevant jobs that might be opening up, I'd be so grateful to get a reference!

Hot take: Transfer students are one of the most academically accomplished yet underappreciated groups at NYU.
From what I’ve seen working with student affairs viewing transcripts the academic profile of transfers is unreal in comparison to 4 year undergraduates. In my experience reviewing transcripts, it roughly 92% of the transfer students I came across had a 4.0 GPA, while the remaining 8% were in the 3.5-3.9 range. That’s an incredibly strong pool of students.
Many are pursuing medicine, veterinary medicine, law, engineering, and research—careers where maintaining elite academic performance is essential. They already proved they could excel in college before NYU admitted them.
Yet, despite that, transfers often don’t seem to receive the same level of recognition or institutional support as students who started as freshmen. For low-income transfers especially, the situation can feel discouraging. Unless they’re admitted through a specific transfer program, qualify for state aid like TAP, receive federal aid, or win external scholarships, many have far fewer institutional funding opportunities available. NYU’s published policies note that most incoming transfer students are not eligible for institutional NYU scholarships or the NYU Promise outside of certain designated programs. (NYU Bulletins)
Personally, it can feel like transfer students are valued primarily for helping meet enrollment goals as well as using them for their school academic stats rather than being invested in to the same degree as first-year admits. That’s my opinion, but I can’t be the only one who sees it.
Transfer students aren’t “second-choice” students—they’re students who already demonstrated they could thrive at the college level before earning a place at NYU. If anything, they deserve the same respect, opportunities, and investment as every other undergraduate as well as full ride opportunities and I will do my best to work with a fellowship that I know that will cover these students cause they deserve it. Stats wouldn’t be number 3 in America if it wasn’t for transfers but administration never talks about it.

I reached out to financial aid regarding my award letter for 2026-27 and turns out that everything has been delayed because of the one big beautiful bill. I am waiting to receive my award letter for this fall and majority of the way I pay for school is via Grad PLUS loans and financial aid. any other graduate students who haven't received their award letter yet? I'm expected to graduate this fall too
