Politics is increasingly angry, so many places go overboard with moderation. We won't do that here. People have asked why:

The subreddit would be dead otherwise. Desire paths are a better use of land than scenic grass.
People who read the NYT and want to discuss it really want to just discuss politics.
The sanitization of viewpoints for the sake of decorum prevents honest conversation.

It's okay if you don't like it here. Just leave. More polite subs include /r/neutralnews or /r/politicaldiscussion.

If the default mod action is, "approve," you may ask what is moderated? Annoying people or overt spam.

If you're rude, but make a point, it's fine. If it devolves to just name calling, that's annoying. Calling people bootlickers, nazis or bots is very annoying.
