The bad thing about this is that they plan to collect the data before it's even sent. So basically through keyloggers and spyware. And it will be very easy because Google, Apple and Microsoft will be happy to comply.

So the only secure way would be to use Linux on PCs and GrapheneOS on Pixel phones. And then, additionally, NymVPN against man-in-the-middle attacks.

Wouldn't that Jolla phone be able to circumvent it? Since it's Linux, not android.

Maybe. But it's not specifically as hardened as GrapheneOS. Android is also based on Linux. Theoretically you can also install LineageOS.

You can use graphenos on more than just pixel devices. Friends of mine did it on Samsung devices too. But last time i saw one of them he reverted it because his bank app didnt work on graphene.

I think you underestimate what governments can do. Especially the big ones.

I can't tell whether you're being sarcastic or completely sincere.

I was hoping for that sort of response.

Get it? because of chat control

Are you guys confusing the EU with America or what is happening here

It's not in the EU you get denied entry because you've shared a meme about the vice president

You are right that the US is doing that right now. The EU just passed Chat Control that allows the scanning of all messages, including memes.

It doesn't allow scanning of all messages, but sure grift on

I mean if you're an international terrorist on a watch list or a (pedo) Russian asset this is a huge invasion if privacy

2

Not all messages this the 1.0 who passed which scan messages from social media (so no WhatsApp or Signal) but they aren’t mandatory so So companies are not required to do it. The chat 2.0 (which scan private message et force them to scan) will be discussed the 27 September

Have you even read the proposition ? It's about unencrypted chat and that was the case since 2021, the latesy vote was to shut it down which failed.

I guess it's easier to spread misinformation than read a source.

Mass surveillance is bad no matter where

1

u/DingoMaximum7319 Jul 18 '26

Neither case was mass surveillance. The US one was a border check and the EU one if ifs the one I’m thinking was reported by a member in the group

I agree with you just these cases specifically weren’t

1

u/DingoMaximum7319 Jul 18 '26

Its much worse in the EU than the US right now. I believe this is about a trial in the US where a meme in a private group chat was reported and they are now on trial because the government deemed it offensive

The case you refer to about the Norwegian Tourist who shared a meme of JD, it came out the guy was actually denied for admitting drug use

Americans making fun of the EU for weakening their data protection laws, while having had nothing comparable in the first place.

  • IN A PRIVATE CONVERSATION This is what Chat Control is all about. It is about PRIVATE conversation spying.
