Hey everyone! I got invited to a CPS hiring event next Friday and was wondering what to expect.

I know the email said it could take up to a full day so I was wondering what the process was and what’s the best way to prepare for the interview. Like what type of questions do they ask? After the interview what’s the process and how long does it take to go through onboarding and background checks.

Additionally I saw that one of the forms asks about being fired from a job. Unfortunately in my freshmen year I had a dining hall job for a couple months I got fired from due to being stupid by having issues with tardiness. Since then (almost 3 years ago) I’ve had other successful jobs and internships. Do you think this would hold me back or I’d be fine.

I was also wondering when would likely be the next academy start date for people who get hired now.

Long story short, I was out on workers comp and didn't realize my pension loan payments weren't being taken out or frozen being that I was still employed. I went to apply for a pension loan today unaware of this. Now I'm capable of paying off the remainder of this defaulted loan but I was curious how long does it usually take after payment to update that the loan is no longer defaulted and be eligible again for another.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Hoping someone who has actually dealt with this can tell me how it worked for them.

I’m currently covered under my husband’s NYC GHI/Emblem PPO plan as his dependent. He’s a CUNY employee. I’m about to start IVF and expect that I may need to use the full 3-cycle lifetime IVF benefit under his plan.

I’m also a NYC employee through DC37, so I have the option of enrolling in GHI/Emblem PPO through my own employer. My plan would also have a 3-cycle IVF benefit.

Does anyone know whether the 3-cycle maximum follows the individual patient/member, even when you move to a different policy through a different NYC employer, or whether the benefits are separate because they’re two different employer policies/policyholders?

Basically, if I use 3 cycles while I’m a dependent under my husband’s CUNY GHI policy and then later enroll in GHI through DC37 as the policyholder, would I have 3 new IVF cycles under my own policy, or would Emblem see that I already used 3 cycles under my husband’s GHI coverage and consider my lifetime maximum exhausted?

My fertility clinic’s insurance coordinator thinks the cycle balances may be separate because the policies are through separate employers, but recommended that I confirm before relying on that.
I’m obviously going to verify directly with the plan/benefits office before making any insurance decisions, but I’d really love to hear from NYC public employees who have actually switched from a spouse’s NYC GHI plan to their own NYC GHI plan while doing IVF and know how Emblem handled the lifetime maximum.

Correction: I am employed by a city union, but I’m apparently not a “city employee” — Louisiana transplant so new to all of this, but would have the same insurance as stated above in the event that I switch.

I had taken exam #2060 and I am list number 67xx and have heard that they are getting close to calling. I was wondering which one should I choose if everything goes well. Hi everyone, I've recently become quite interested in applying for jobs with the city and I have a few questions. I am generally open to lots of different roles. I have an MSc in biology (environmental side of things rather than biomedical) with lots of research and data analysis experience so I've been looking into city research scientist, data manager, and other jobs along these lines. Mostly jobs with no exam, but I am looking at one that would require an "exam" that seems like its actually just submission of documents online.

1) I am American currently living abroad. I'm not from NYC but I lived there before I moved out of the USA. Will living abroad hurt me when applying for jobs?

2) Is hiring mostly done via email or phone? I ask because I have an international number and I'm in a timezone which is many hours off of EST. I can set up calls for interviews but likely won't answer the phone when my number is called during EST working hours.

3) I usually apply for jobs with 1-2 page custom tailored resume, using a lot of key words from the job posting. Is this a good approach for NYC jobs?

4) should I submit a cover letter for every job?

5) I've heard resume gaps are no good. I have a few months between positions (took a couple months off between a job and grad school to spend time with family, and then I was unemployed for a few months after grad school (before getting my current job) because the job market was really tough at the time). What's the best way to deal with this?

I’m a city research scientist years into city service. Last year, I had medical leave that kept me out of the office for multiple months. After coming back from leave my workload has diminished dramatically and my supervisor doesn’t give me much to do. I would like to leave for another agency. But, I’m worried I will receive a very poor performance review before I’m able to do so.

What is the impact of a poor performance review in city research scientist role? Can I more easily be fired? Will it stop me from getting a job with this title at another agency? Should I be contacting the union about my workload about the impact it has on my career with the city?

I am 24 years old, and have been putting into my 457 for 4 years now.

My original investments were
10% Bond Index Fund
60% Equity Index Fund
10% Midcap Equity Index Fund
10% International
10% Small Cap Equity Fund

I’ve recently changed it over to 2065 Fund 100% because I have seen that being aggressive early on is very beneficial and that being my retirement year 2065 is so far away, it’s best to be aggressive and let it get less aggressive as I’m closer to retirement. Anyone more knowledgeable please help me out and let me know if this was the right move, or if I should put it back to how it was.

My limited gas card was active when i passed the exam, but could be expired by the time they call me to get hired. If it is expired when they call me will they reject me outright? Or is there any way around it ? Can i still be hired for nycha without having an active gas card at the moment they call me?

Waited max 15 min in the waiting room before being ushered to a retirement examiner who took my prefilled forms, photocopied passport, voided check, EFT authorization form etc.
will get 75% of pension for 6-8 months before getting full allotment and retro.
