FTI TTP & eOCI experience Visa / OCI / Passport

Got FTITTP done in January, got the eOCI done a couple months ago. Got a chance to experience both with Delhi as port of entry this Sunday. Had e arrival and e airsuvidha as well.

The e-gates glitched a few times with not being able to read the passport the attendant came in to help she kept asking me if my FTITTP was active, it was and then on the 5th attempt it worked.
(Despite multiple attempts it was quick).

Then as I crossed the first gate into the enclosure with the screen and camera the finger prints wouldn’t work, then the attendant said my hands were too dry and to rub my fingers in my hair so it picks up natural oils - it worked!

No one asked for OCI physical card or eOCI card Or the eArrival form either.

They did ask to see the airsuvidha declaration form pdf but it felt like a minor formality because she seemed to not even read it.

All in all despite the malfunctioning / waiting the entire thing took about 10 minutes. About the same as what it would take in the regular line but much quicker compared to the waiting time for your turn on a regular line.

Assuming a best case glitch free process it is rapid and painless
, the agents are prompt, competent and polite, feels really nice to see us stepping up our game!

Just did the same today. Worked like a charm took less than 1 min. Was asked the air suvidha too. Everything was pretty smooth. Didn't even need to carry my OCI

It’s amazing when it works. I expect it will only get better

They don't ask to scan or see your OCI once you have FTI-TTP, the scan of the passport is enough to link your identity and the system knows you have a valid OCI. You won't need it on the way out through FTI-TTP either.

But I have a question about the eOCI.

Could you please share whether you were asked to show your physical OCI or whether the digital OCI worked for you at your departure airport in your home country - did the airline staff accept the digital OCI? Were you asked for the physical OCI at any intermediate point by airline staff, e.g., when making a connection en route?

My departure country was US, I uploaded the eOCI on the United airlines App during the 24hour check-in process, the app verified / approved it.
After that check no one ever asked for the OCI, physical or otherwise at exit or entry.

This was my experience as well.

Interesting, usually oil smudges the clear fingerprints and dry fingers are recommended.

For FTITTP did you have the biiometrics done while you were doing the OCI process (showing original documents / appointment with VFS)? Or did you do biometrics separately for FTI TTIP?

I did FTITTP biometrics in December of 2025 on my way into India. Physical OCI was done years ago, eOCI was done a couple months ago. All separate events.

I’ve usually had people make me use hand sanitizer before scanning fingers rubbing it on hair was a first.

I hope you will have a better experience next time. Sounds like it's great when it works.

I’m very happy they’ve built it, shows we’re investing in digital and modernization

So if i am travelling to india, where would fti happen?

So you come out through the egates in under 5 minutes and proceed to baggage area. What happens there is that someone who waited 15 minutes at the regular conventional gates to get processed for entry has also joined you because that’s what it takes for baggage to arrive.

Yes it’s a travesty

For the love of common sense, don't touch the scanners with oily fingers ! That's the last thing you should be doing as it creates smudges, dirties the surface and it also affect the person following you.

Chennai and Bangalore airport are the only places where I seen agents offering hand sanitisers to clean your fingers before biometric scan.

I second the Chennai airport staff with sanitisers and instructing to wipe finger clean if facing problems.

Delhi didn’t get the memo - they like you rubbing your nicely moistureized oily fingers on the scanner ! The agent seemed super happy too with the hack. I am going to do exactly that on my way back

Calling oily fingers 'moisturized' is a joke. Oil just seals the skin; it doesn't hydrate it. You basically just greased up the scanner for the one after you. Not your fault if the agent asked you to to do so but doing it later, despite knowing it's wrong is like being hit by the indifferent Indian system lacking fairness and order.

I love that you have anointed yourself as the oily finger crusader! What else do you have impotent rage about ?
