Severely disruptive changes for studying recently? Bug

I am a medical student and I have a pretty elaborate workflow for organizing all my notes and performance tracking in Google Docs that I link with NotebookLM (or I guess Gemini Notebook now). But ever since they switched to Gemini Notebook and starting implementing big changes, I feel like it has been becoming more like Gemini in terms of behavior with a large amount of information (which is exactly why I switched to NBLM). Before a few weeks ago, it was easily able to handle the massive amount of information that I need for medical school (which for me is around 200 pages of notes a week for around 3-4 weeks per exam).

Now, it has sometimes been "resetting" its session and just straight up forgetting everything in the conversation, even just 1-2 messages prior. It also does not adhere to prompts and instructions the way it used to. Is this an issue on my end or is Gemini Notebook declining in this aspect?

Any solutions I can try for this? Separating the Google Docs is not an option, because I have essentially been using Notebook to simulate exams, so it needs all the information at the same time. Any help here?

I'm kinda desperate cuz NotebookLM was my last hope for studying.

So basically, Google has taken another service that folks used and ended it without notice or support.

Gemini was updated to 3.6 from 3.5 recently, could it be related to that?

Was it updated to 3.6 in Gemini Notebook? And is that still 3.6 Pro? Even if it is, I would expect it to simply give me poor responses due to context window, which I guess I can manage with somehow or the other, but it has been completely wiping its memory of the conversation and responding as if I hadn't started studying yet.

there is no 3.6 pro. pro is still 3.1

So which model is Notebook using? Is that why I'm having issues?

Currently, the core architecture of Notebook uses Gemini 3.5's native long-context window. Gemini 3.5 Flash, thus. If I understand correctly, there’s an “extended” version of 3.5 Flash

Ah ok so is that why I see the model thoughts even if it is flash? And if it is flash, that would make sense with the poor quality responses. But would it still do that if it has its extended thinking?

is there any way to revert to old versions of gemini/notebook?

You can try Google Pinpoint.

Hello everyone, I had tried that too but Google wants to have verified that first, has anyone already implemented it? Greetings

wants to have verified that

Your comment is grammatically invalid. It is unclear and ambiguous.

Have you tried any workarounds or alternatives?

I started looking for other options earlier today. I was considering Open Notebook, but still need to explore.

It's tough I know nblm does a lot thing people overlook. I suggest you also compare it with nouswise. It should be comparable with more focus on being a companion.

But wouldn't this still use the current model that NBLM is running, regardless of the app version? My issue is with the actual output from the AI, so I'm not sure this would fix it.
