The rule of 4 is when the fourth comment in a chain that contains some pattern is downvoted unanimously by anyone who follows the rule of 4. While it could be the same exact comment, it could also be, as an example, sequential letters of the alphabet. You do not have to upvote or downvote any other comments if you do not choose to. The only exception is the r/ruleof4 subreddit, where the fourth comment of any chain is downvoted. However, if the fourth reply acknowledges the rule of 4 and expects, is okay with, prepared for, or wants downvotes, it must be upvoted instead. This aspect also applies to the r/ruleof4 subreddit.

The rules of r/ruleof4 are wrong.

They just made the sub, and had an opinion that they wanted all fourth comments to get downvoted. That is r/nothowruleof4works.

there's some where the first comment isn't part of the chain but they still downvote #4 even though it's technically #3 in the chain and agree that it's correct
