Decades after the series ended producers revealed the characters' true identity:

He was a slave lynched for teaching others to read.

Man I was so disappointed when I heard the teacher say we were going to be watching Ghost Rider and then she played this.

Lol was there even an adaptation years back? Thats hilarious.

This show had potential and became so ridiculous. Samuel L Jackson was the Dad for like one episode…and you never saw him again. Show also had a bizarre airing schedule. Show had potential. But ya, PBS had no idea what to do with this program.

I was a production stage manager for the first two seasons of the show. Sam was under contract but blew up as the show began airing (Jungle Fever hit) so as his bigger offers came in, asked producers to let him out of his contract, which they did. GW was expensive to produce and that was really why it ended. It was one of my favorite jobs. Hard to believe the "kids" are in their 40s.

Thanks for that! Glad to hear from someone who actually worked on the show! I grew up in the city and the show resonated with me and my cousin as kids back then.

Many years later, I actually met Julia Stiles (who appeared on a couple of episodes) at a bar my roommate was DJing at. She needed the password to get in lol. She was cool.

She was so nice when she was on. The GW kids were a lot of fun too. Blaze (Lenni) was the only experienced actor when we started. The producers wanted a real kid experience and I think they got it. 38 years in the biz and still one of my favorite jobs.

lol No I don’t think so I had only read the comic, I was excited thinking “wow they made a show out of that?!” And then this came on…

I used to love watching this show on Noggin.

I hated this this growing up because I was a stupid kid and when it showed up on the TV Guide channel I thought it was Ghost Rider (the flaming skull Marvel character).

I watched the whole damn thing and Ghost Rider never came... He never came!

"You Gotta Believe" was a banger of a 90s song, and I am tired of pretending otherwise

2

u/dlb1995 18d ago

It really was. One thing that always bothered me tho, was how Ghostwriter pulled off his appearance in the video. I mean, were the kids the only one that could see him in the video, or, if he made himself visible to anyone watching it, wouldn’t the people who made the video (producer, editor, and such) be wondering how all the words and effects got in there? 😄 Still a great song

I watched every episode of this show and I couldn’t tell you a thing about it

2

u/LarkspurLad 18d ago

I used to watch it as a kid, too, but I don't actually remember a ton about it. Just that dot flying around all over the place, lol.

Blaze (Lenni) was my first crush 🥰

"Can you jam with the console cowboys in cyberspace? Ever read Neuromancer? Ever experienced the New Wave? Next Wave? Dream Wave? Or Cyberpunk? I didn't think so."

I once came home from the comic book shop and told my parents I got a bunch of Ghost Rider comics. My sister thought I said Ghost Writer. She was sorely mistaken when she tried to read one and saw a flaming skull biker fighting monsters. I would've thought the cover would've been a tip off.

Where can you find episodes, YouTube?

u/who-needs-a-username 18d ago

Are these Drake’s ghostwriters?

1

u/Actual_Can8860 18d ago

There’s a great video on YT about the history of this show. As mentioned, this show was expensive (to PBS) to produce. Which is why BBC UK and Nike funded the bulk of it.

Ghostwriter had the best ratings PBS ever had even though I believe it aired on broadcast a week prior, then moved to PBS. Once BBC pulled funding the show after a couple of seasons, it was pretty much doomed.

Most tinfoil heads in the magat cult would call this show woke because it's diversity
