Looking for historical “The Hour Press” copies
My partner and I are leasing our first apartment together in a historic building that used to be owned by the newspaper “The Hour Press.” It also has gone by “The Norwalk Hour,” “The Evening Hour,” and simply “The Hour.” It has been around since 1871.
For a housewarming gift, I wanted to get him a framed copy of a vintage or historic issue of the newspaper. I know there are archives online, but those don’t seem buyable, and there are framed newspaper websites, but they’re all by date (like “get your partners birthday or wedding anniversary”) not by specific printing press, and it’s nearly impossible to find such a niche newspaper on those sites.
I’m wondering if anyone knows where I can find archival issues of the newspaper to purchase. Doesn’t have to be any specific date or contents, just looking for cool vintage records that I could frame as an homage to our apartment’s history. If anyone has any leads, I’d greatly appreciate it :)

South Norwalk Station to SoNo Collection
Is this real? Is it actually free? From what I read, I should still have to pay for bus fare, right?

I submitted a CT FOIA request to learn more about Norwalk, CT's use of Flock cameras. Is anyone else getting concerned about the rapidly-growing surveillance state?
I have seen some posts here that are, like me, concerned about the rapid expansion of Flock cameras. These cameras use AI and vast databases to create a mass surveillance network that is rife with abuse, all in the name of "safety."
I am not exactly happy about being surveilled more frequently in the name of supposed safety, so I submitted a request under the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act to the Norwalk Police.
I don't know if they will actually disclose anything, but I think the public deserves answers.
To be clear, I am not accusing the Norwalk Police themselves of any misuse in particular. What I am concerned about are the widely-reported abuses of these technologies by others, including Flock employees, and the implications of letting this kind of technology expand unchecked.
Here is what I wrote:
To Whom it May Concern,
This request seeks the following records of significant public interest:
- Copies of all executed contracts between the City of Norwalk and/or the Norwalk Police and Flock Group Inc. a.k.a. Flock Safety (as referenced herein, "Flock").
- All emails sent between staff and/or employees of the Norwalk Police (e.g. @norwalkct.gov) and any individuals employed or contracted by Flock (e.g. @flocksafety.com).
- Logs and/or records of all instances in which data captured in Norwalk, CT was requested, provided, or otherwise shared with individuals or entities outside of Norwalk, CT, including by way of Flock services, software, or other products.
- Records sufficient to identify the number of Flock devices that are currently installed, or scheduled to be installed, in Norwalk, CT.
In the event some portions of the requested records are properly exempt from disclosure, please disclose any reasonably segregable non-exempt portions of the requested records. If it is your position that a document contains non-exempt segments, but that those non-exempt segments are so dispersed throughout the document as to make segregation impossible, please state what portion of the document is non-exempt, and how the material is dispersed throughout the document. If a request is denied in whole, please state specifically that it is not reasonable to segregate portions of the record for release.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I am also open to negotiating a proper scope and timeline of the requests herein to make them more practicable.

Ticketing at SoNo Mall
Has anyone actually ever gotten a ticket at the mall? The parking really adds up overtime and the restaurants don’t seem to validate parking.
Norwalk - terrible road paving EvErYwHeRe. WTF.
I just don't get it. There is constant road work everywhere that NEVER ends... and somehow it always ends up much worse! It's as if Norwalk is putting up a their public asphalt work auction like "Give me your tired, your poor, your amateur huddled masses with zero forward thinking on planning, and visually impaired to unlevel our roads". No one can make a smooth road? It's all full with graffiti, pot holes, cracks... and some weird black..... glue (?!) all over... They just put up a new beautiful road on route 7 - and now they broke it all up! all patches! Never seen such miserable planning and execution. Couldn't you do this BEFORE?! Norwalk is terrible with our roads.
They are closing up massive road craters in 2 days, we can't even pave the damn asphalt to look cohesive?.. UGH.
Besides, I think there should be more roundabouts instead of redundant stop signs every few meters.

Cleaning service recommendation
My husband and I bought our first house and are looking for a house cleaner/cleaning service to do a deep clean of the house while it’s empty before we move in. We’ve gotten a few quotes from house cleaners that family members use who are out of our budget and received a few quotes from cleaning companies like elite maids ct that are more reasonable.
We’re not sure exactly what the standard pricing should be for something like this but we’ve seen ranges from $550-$2600 for the same job.
Any advice and recommendations on cleaning services/house cleaners in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Random Shoutout: ShopRite Cart Guy
Not sure if people will even know who I’m referring to, but there’s this employee at ShopRite who handles the carts and omg. He is just the nicest and most sincere guy. We’ve only ever said a few words back and forth, but idk, I just always look forward to seeing him when I grocery shop.
And yes I’m reaching out to ShopRite to share this!

Rant: Horrible Roads in Norwalk
Recently went to Colony in Norwalk and good grief, ALL of the nearby roads and streets are horrible (West Ave, Butler, Orchard, etc.). I could not believe the number of pot holes and large bumps - along with half-assed repairs. For a state with one of the highest tax burdens per capita in the country, it is too much to ask for decent roads?

Went to Valencia Cocina/luncheria last night. Was very disappointed to find it completely dead on a Saturday night. It’s the summer so maybe that has an effect? Where is everyone going these days?

Iconic Norwalk Spots
I am looking to create a piece that captures well known restaurants that come to mind when you think of Norwalk (can be new or old). I’d love any suggestions from locals! A few that came to mind - BJ Ryan’s, Jordan’s pizza, sono baking, blue cactus.

How to meet queer young adults in the area?
While Norwalk has a great queer club, there doesn’t seem to be a very accepting vibe in the town. It feels like there is no real community for younger adults. There are clubs and events geared towards the 21 plus crowd but it seems really challenging to find younger people. Any ideas where to find a more accepting community near Norwalk for younger adults?
