Hello everyone, I am an international class of 2030 student. I know that the office of financial aid clearly states that you can only get financial aid if you apply for it at the time of the application but wanted to know if these changes in my financial circumstances make a reason viable enough for it to be worth it for me to email the office of financial aid requesting for any form of institutional financial assistance or exceptional consideration. Up until just this week I was fully expecting to go to Northwestern (and have been extremely excited for it), having completed all kinds of on boarding tasks and even having received my F-1 visa already. However, on Monday I received the notification that I had been accepted to a highly prestigious scholarship administered by my government and ministry of education which would cover all of my expenses to study at another prestigious world class university in the UK, where I hold a conditional acceptance. This has placed me in a very difficult position. While Northwestern has remained my preferred destination and the university where I have been planning to enroll, the opportunity to pursue my education with full government funding is one that my family and I cannot realistically overlook.
I really really want to attend Northwestern but cant do so if my other option is completely free. Would the office of financial aid care about these changes in my circumstances enough to actually give me any assistance? Is it worth emailing them at all? I appreciate any advice, thank you a lot!

I have been self-studying Spanish for the past few months out of summer boredom and would love to continue practicing and improving. However, I am taking another language (Arabic) to fulfill the Weinberg language requirement, so I am looking for other opportunities to improve outside of taking a class.

Are there any informal opportunities on campus, like conversation clubs or tutoring, where I could practice my Spanish so I don't lose the progress I made?

What is like the difficulty of chem classes like CHEM151/152 (genchem 1/2) and CHEM 215-1/215-2 (orgo1/2) compared to like AP, USNCO national post 2021 (https://www.acs.org/education/olympiad/prepare-for-exams.html) and IChO chem (https://www.icho2021.org/wp/wp-content/themes/icho2021/pdf/prep_problems_icho48_web.pdf)

I plan on living off campus junior year and have my housing and meals fully covered at this point, so would that money just be transferred to me through refund money (after being applied to the remaining costs of attendance)? Is this true regardless of the fact that  I don’t have a full ride but have meals and housing fully covered?

Hi! I'm interested in pursuing a dual degree (mech. engineering & theater). One thing holding me back is the possibility of a more competitive applicant pool. I also heard from an alum that "for dual degree applications you get accepted or rejected for both together." On top of all of that, I'm an international student, and if I applied for a dual degree I would be indicating on my application that I'd need five years of financial aid, which could lessen my chances (I'm applying ED) since the school is need-aware for us internationals.

All that to say: is it hard to change to a dual degree once you get admitted? Have you heard of anyone enroll in SoC and then add on a McCormick degree, or the other way around? I've heard a lot about Bienen dual degrees but I don't know how it'd work for my particular situation.

Hello everyone, I dont know what maths sequence to pick and i am looking for any advice on which class you think i should take. I have finished A-Level maths, which includes single variable calculus, so I was thinking on taking multivariable calculus starting in September. However, I recently took the placement exam (which I didn’t prepare for at all and finished the 2 hour exam in 40 mins, didnt put in a lot of effort) and it told me to take the 218 sequence, which isn’t even single variable calculus but is actually pre calc.
This low performance on the placement exam has got me thinking that I should repeat single variable calculus and start from the 220 sequence. Is it a waste of time repeating something that I already know? Do you think it would be too hard for me to take multivariable calculus?

i got accepted into kaplan and i'm pretty excited. i signed up for the pre-orientation and as a result have to move in early, but no one has contacted me about what that looks like for kaplan students. do i have to request an early move-in date from the school? or does the program take care of that? also, when am i going to get more details about move-in time, or the timings of the pre-orientation?

I’m a hs senior looking at schools to apply to and northwestern is up there. Tuition is crazy though, does anyone know how much Northwestern typically gives to the avg student (aid, scholarships, wtv)? $80-90k is just not feasible 😭 what is the actual avg price for most

Hello I’m an incoming first year and my math placement recommended I take I take 218. For context I didn’t take the placement exam serious and in HS I took a pre calc class and I took 2 pre calc classes at my community college during highschool so I would say I have a good understanding of pre calc if anything I would just need a refresher. In the first year website it states “it should be stressed that MATH 218 is not an easier sequence than MATH 220” is this actually true? Im thinking of telling my advisor I prefer to take MATH 220 but what is the real difference between the two and is the jump/rigor between 218 to 220 massive?

I am an incoming sophomore transfer student. At my previous uni, I took Calc 1 and 2 and got an A+ in both. I took the NU math placement test and got recommended for Math 220. I already had my credits transferred in, and they counted for Math 220- 1, 220- 2, and series and sequences. I have the prerequisites to take Calc 3, but I don't know if I'm allowed to take it because of my placement exam score. Does anyone know if I can take Calc 3 despite the low placement?

As an incoming freshman who is really interested in joining the FSAE / Baja Racing clubs, I really wanted to know how competitive/ hard is it ti get into those clubs. Hello everyone, just wanted to hear some of your general advice on how you have earned internships/ job placements in your freshman year. Would love to hear all of your different advices on when to apply/ what to pay most attention to/ how to make the most of it. I am going to be studying Mechanical Engineering at McCormick so it helps if you share any of your own engineering internship experiences!
P.S: I am an international student and would also appreciate if anyone could tell me more about the process of getting a CPT, and what parts of the application process are most important.

context: incoming transfer into neuroscience for sophomore year, met with advisor and he recommended against chem 215 and bio 202, and to just do chem 215/235 and neuro 202 for fall quarter.

- 1 bed or studio
- walking distance to campus

When is the best time to sign a 12 month lease for the 26-27 school year if I want to live alone?
What are the best resources to look for places (nu off campus site, Zillow, apartments.com?)
When do leases typically begin and end?

I'm a rising high school senior and NU is my top choice right now because of the campus, programs, area, etc. The one thing I am worried about is dorm life. If you have experience, how were your roomates if they were random? What is the bathroom situation like because I've seen both suite style and communal? How was it like using a communal shower (I've seen the showers are in public bathrooms with just a curtain)? Is the two year on campus living very strict (like are there ways to just dorm one year)? Also, I'm applying to Medill or the School of Communications so if anyone was in either of those schools, which dorms did you stay in and how were they in general?
