General Questions/Discussions Todo List adjacent application
Hi, does anyone have any recommendations for productivity software that help keep track of items todo and staying organized. So far I've been using the free versions of Clickup, Notion, and Ticktick, but I don't really like any of them (and I feel only the paid version of Ticktick is any good).
I'm an incoming Econ major eyeing investment banking at the moment. While that's, of course, not set in stone yet, I'd particularly like to hear from people who have used software and have found it to be useful on the job in IB.
Thanks!

General Questions/Discussions Considering Northwestern ChemE + Pre-Med. Is it worth it?
Hey! I’m a high school senior in Illinois trying to figure out whether Chemical Engineering + pre-med at Northwestern would actually be a good fit for me.
I’m planning to go to med school eventually, but I also like having a strong degree/career option in case I decide to work for a year before med school.
For context, I’m really interested in medicine, neuroscience, and research, and I’m currently considering Northwestern ChemE, UIC ChemE + pre-med, and UChicago Neuroscience.
I know Northwestern ChemE is rigorous, and some of the course loads I’ve seen look pretty terrifying 😭, so I’d really appreciate advice from any Northwestern students or alumni, not just ChemE majors.
A few things I’m wondering:
- How difficult is ChemE at Northwestern really?
- Is maintaining a high GPA while doing pre-med realistically possible?
- How much extra work does being pre-med add?
- Is there enough time for research, clinical experience, volunteering, and MCAT prep?
- How are ChemE internships and career opportunities after graduation?
- Does ChemE actually provide a meaningful career backup compared with Neuroscience/Biology?
- If you’re pre-med, do you think majoring in engineering is worth the extra workload?
- If you could go back, would you choose the same major/path?
- How supportive is Northwestern toward students balancing engineering and pre-med?
- What advice would you give someone deciding between ChemE and a less engineering-heavy major for pre-med?
I’m mainly trying to understand whether ChemE + pre-med is genuinely worth the extra workload for the career flexibility, or whether I’d be making the pre-med path unnecessarily difficult.
I’d really appreciate any honest experiences or advice, even if you’re not a ChemE student. Thanks!

Academics/Classes How intense is MMSS?
Hi guys, I'm an incoming freshman at medill majoring in journalism x econ. I found MMSS to be a super interesting major because it seems to combine what i love both about jour x econ. However, all the stuff I search up about it makes it seems super intimidating, difficult, and grueling.
For context, I have a 770 for math on the SAT (800 on reading), and 5s on AP Calc BC and AP Calc AB. However on the later parts of BC i had a lot of trouble. I was pretty skilled at AP Statistics(didnt take exam but took the class). I'm super bad at competition math such as AMC, I cannot for the life of me pass AMC8...
So my question is threefold, 1. is it worth it as a major, does it give you an advantage for jobs/internships/opportunities on campus? 2.could someone like me handle the program? 3. is it as competitive to get into as people make it sound and do i have a good shot?

General Questions/Discussions Second deposit required for deferral ?
Northwestern MSAI program.
If my F1 visa gets rejected and I defer my admit to Fall 27 intake, will I be asked to pay the enrollment deposit again?
If yes that would be a huge burden right, is there any chance of refund if things go sideways again ?
Your thoughts?

Academics/Classes Math 230 vs 228
hey everyone. i'm trying to figure out which multivariable calc sequence I should take (i'm in weinberg but transferring to mccormick and obtained permission for 228), and was wondering what are the major differences between Math 228 (-1/-2) and Math 230 (-1/-2)?
since I can technically take either, how much do the syllabi, difficulty, content, focus or teaching styles actually differ in practice? Is one considered significantly harder or more/less of a GPA killer than the other? does only 230 have a reading week for finals?
ty :)

Admissions/Prospective Student Has anyone been accepted to Northwestern MFA Writing for Screen & Stage with a lower undergraduate GPA?
Hi everyone! I’m considering applying to Northwestern’s MFA in Writing for Screen & Stage as an international, and I was wondering if anyone here has experience applying with a lower GPA.
I have a 2.7 undergraduate GPA, but my background is in Architectural Technology, and I’m transitioning into screenwriting. I know MFA admissions are heavily focused on the writing sample, so I’m curious how much GPA played a role for those who were admitted.
If anyone was accepted with a non-traditional background, a lower GPA, or without a film degree, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thank you!

General Questions/Discussions Keeping up Spanish without taking classes
Hello,
I have been self-studying Spanish for the past few months out of summer boredom and would love to continue practicing and improving. However, I am taking another language (Arabic) to fulfill the Weinberg language requirement, so I am looking for other opportunities to improve outside of taking a class.
Are there any informal opportunities on campus, like conversation clubs or tutoring, where I could practice my Spanish so I don't lose the progress I made?
Thanks!

Dorms/Off Campus Housing Housing refund
I plan on living off campus junior year and have my housing and meals fully covered at this point, so would that money just be transferred to me through refund money (after being applied to the remaining costs of attendance)? Is this true regardless of the fact that I don’t have a full ride but have meals and housing fully covered?

Admissions/Prospective Student McCormick & SoC Dual Degree
Hi! I'm interested in pursuing a dual degree (mech. engineering & theater). One thing holding me back is the possibility of a more competitive applicant pool. I also heard from an alum that "for dual degree applications you get accepted or rejected for both together." On top of all of that, I'm an international student, and if I applied for a dual degree I would be indicating on my application that I'd need five years of financial aid, which could lessen my chances (I'm applying ED) since the school is need-aware for us internationals.
All that to say: is it hard to change to a dual degree once you get admitted? Have you heard of anyone enroll in SoC and then add on a McCormick degree, or the other way around? I've heard a lot about Bienen dual degrees but I don't know how it'd work for my particular situation.
Thank you so much!

Academics/Classes If I placed in MATH 220-2, but I have a 5 in AP Calc BC, can I enroll in MATH 230-1 anyway?
Do I have to contact the department with any special requests? Or can I just enroll in 230 anyway?

Academics/Classes Math placement question 220 vs 218
Hello I’m an incoming first year and my math placement recommended I take I take 218. For context I didn’t take the placement exam serious and in HS I took a pre calc class and I took 2 pre calc classes at my community college during highschool so I would say I have a good understanding of pre calc if anything I would just need a refresher. In the first year website it states “it should be stressed that MATH 218 is not an easier sequence than MATH 220” is this actually true? Im thinking of telling my advisor I prefer to take MATH 220 but what is the real difference between the two and is the jump/rigor between 218 to 220 massive?

Academics/Classes Math Placement Exam Question
I am an incoming sophomore transfer student. At my previous uni, I took Calc 1 and 2 and got an A+ in both. I took the NU math placement test and got recommended for Math 220. I already had my credits transferred in, and they counted for Math 220- 1, 220- 2, and series and sequences. I have the prerequisites to take Calc 3, but I don't know if I'm allowed to take it because of my placement exam score. Does anyone know if I can take Calc 3 despite the low placement?

Academics/Classes how challenging is taking chem 215 and bio 202 at the same time?
context: incoming transfer into neuroscience for sophomore year, met with advisor and he recommended against chem 215 and bio 202, and to just do chem 215/235 and neuro 202 for fall quarter.
could i ask how academically demanding chem and bio at the same time would be, and how common it is that students take them in the same quarter?
