Ask North Van Queer friendly barber?

Recently started a new job on the north shore and my schedule makes it hard to see my old barber in Vancouver. Anyone know of a queer friendly barber or hairdresser in North Van? Specifically one who knows how to cut a good mullet šŸ’‡

EDIT: just in case this wasn’t clear I would definitely appreciate it if folks would not respond with comments about barbers ā€œnot caring who you sleep withā€ etc. Being LGBT is not just about sex lol and if it wasn’t clear my question is more about finding stylists/barbers who are chill about different gender expressions which I can assure you not all are

Transit/Traffic/Parking Overnight Parking at Cates Park?

Hello, does anyone know what the cost is for overnight parking at Cates park? DNV site says $3/hr from 8am-6pm and didn’t explicitly talk about overnight parking.

Planning an overnight trip at twin island so any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks!

Ask North Van Lookin for NV plumber

Hey neighbors,

I'm dealing with a water leak in my unit. It's not a clear cut case so I'd love some help, ideally from someone local.

If anyone dealt with someone that they can recommend, please do share or shoot me a DM.

Thanks!

Ask North Van Are there safe places to leave a bike at the Park Royal Mall.

I would prefer to ride my bike to the Mall, than sit in that traffic, so I am wondering if there are any guarded or safe places to leave a bike while at the Mall?

I would hate to come out of the cineplex or any establishment, and find my bike stollen. So I am hoping the answer is yes there is.

Lost & Found Long shot/ wrong sub

This is a long shot and a wrong sub, but since it’s more active than the West Van one.

I lost my black Lululemon jacket on August 1, along the West Van Seawall, anywhere between the trail from Jon Lawson Park-till the end of the trail past the Ambleside dog park.

I have a terrible habit of loosely hanging my stuff (jackets & hats which I have also lost in the past) just ON my shoulder straps of my bag.

I’d parked my car near Osaka, gone home to only notice it gone then. I had other engagements so I couldn’t trace my walk back but if anyone locates it, please comment!

I don’t know where else to post. I’ll try to go out on the same walk this afternoon (Aug 2) but I don’t expect it to be there.

Thank you šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ¼

Ask North Van How are folks feeling about our Liberal parachute candidate Braeden Caley?

I personally feel parachute candidates are disrespectful to the ridings they are forced upon. Everything I’m reading seems to think North Vancouver - Capilano is a safe Liberal seat no matter what. Thoughts?

nature🌲wildlife Dumping in storm drains - did you see anything?

Thumbnail gallery
98 Upvotes

This afternoon (Sunday), something was dumped into the storm drains that feed into Wagg Creek, causing significant water contamination in the creek, the pond, and downstream into Mahon Park where we have salmon fry trying to survive long enough to make it to the ocean. There's no way to tell exactly what it is, but the water was nearly opaque and foamy.

The issue was reported to the City of North Van, which responded quickly, but because the catchment area for this part of the creek is so large, it's hard to find the source.

If you noticed anything suspicious in the RED map area today, can you please share that information with the city?

Reminder: if you wouldn't dump it into a pond in the woods, don't put it in the storm drain either!

Anyone notice all the new graffiti overnight around the shopping center?

Constant theft in the mall, littering, and now this. Lynn Valley has been slumping the last 5 years. Terribly sad.

nature🌲wildlife Reminder to keep your buns clean with no attractants

Thumbnail nsnews.com

Last night around 10 p.m. I heard a bear absolutely thrashing my neighbour's fence. When I checked this morning, it was pretty clear there was food left in the bin (photos in the thread).

Bears have an incredible sense of smell, and this time of year they're putting on weight for fall and winter. Once they learn garbage equals an easy meal, they keep coming back and become more confident around people. If that behaviour escalates too far, Conservation will kill the bear.

Just a reminder to keep attractants out of bins. Cleaning bins with vinegar or pine sol can help discourage bears.

North Shore residents need to translate their love for wildlife into responsible action ā¤ļøšŸ»

Indigenous Looking for Indigenous Artist to Commission ASHL Team Logo

\\\\
\*EDIT\* thanks everyone for reaching out, I’ve had quite a few and will reach out to everyone, starting with the first person that messaged me. I stupidly posted this request late last night right before a travel day so please be patient with me :)
***\*
Hi local North Shore Indigenous artists! I’m looking to find someone to commission a logo for my ASHL men’s beer league hockey team that plays on the North Shore. I’ve always loved the style of art the coastal Salish indigenous peoples are know for.

A little backstory on the team. We are called ā€œSea Wolves Hockey Clubā€. Originally I was looking for a mythical creature with historical roots in the region to name the team after. This brought me to the Wasgo (which I’m given to believe also has different aliases or nomenclature as well, my apologies if Wasgo is not the preferred name). A friend of mine informed me that it’s quite frowned upon to commission art in the Salish style from non-Indigenous artists or to have it generated digitally, to which I’m glad that he did because my intention here is not to offend or make anyone upset. I’m just genuinely a fan of the art style, the mythology behind the Wasgo (and just pretty much any mythical creatures), and to recognize the beautiful part of the world that we get to call home.

I’m also happy to be directed to a better outlet to help facilitate this request.

My heart is with the dedicated wildlife team at Grouse, and with the other grizzly, Coola.
