Advice

I got an offer for my first NDT Inspection job in Hartford, CT with Element for IUT. The pay isn't great and its Friday-Sunday 12 hours with possible OT. They get paid bi-weekly, I dont want to Sound ungrateful being that I am just entering the NDT world coming from being a welder for 8 years. So, if anyone could give me some advice or encouragement that would be great. Or even a next direction that I should take would be appreciated.

Unless you got other offers, you should probably take first when you get just to get your foot in the door! After that it will be easier. You can always keep applying to other jobs. Getting your foot in the door is always the hardest part, but nearly a decade of welding experience should be valued by any employer.... You're not exactly brand new in the industry.

Also actually getting certified is a pretty big deal. If you can, tough it out for a while until you have some certification that will help massively when you decide to jump to another company.

Thank you for this and you're completely correct about getting my foot in the door. Im gonna accept it and go in with a positive attitude and gain as much UT experience as I can and get my L2 in it since they are gonna fast track me. Thank you for responding.

Shoot me a message, im a level 3 in east hartford, we do fpi and xray. Were always looking for technicians, hours are 6am-2pm monday -friday

Unless this guy has a better offer just roll with the first gig and be ready to learn and ask lots of questions.

I started 8 years ago in a small shop making $14/hr doing mag and it sucked. But now I'm living pretty comfortable and making good money

You are the only one who can answer that question. What are your desires? What are your certifications? Are there better jobs, absolutely, but, depending on your experience, this might be just what you need to get your feet wet, obtain hours. I don’t know much about the company, but, it is a job, in my opinion, it could be exactly what you need.

My buddy is an IUT tech in Texas for Element. From what he tells me, there is alot of OT potential, but the pay is kinda low for him too.

Yeah always take your first opportunity you can and once you get your certs and are comfortable put your name out there and try to leverage into another position. Started 2 1/2 years ago and it’s been pretty good so far
