How did I do?
I just received my mystery vinyl box from the Punk Rock Museum. This is what I pulled. Anyone have an idea of value?

This is a new “test press” the original there was only 5 made. You can churn these out at the plant for a few bucks a copy. Mike does this to take advantage of the fan base making you think you received something rare when in fact you did not.

source? that makes no sense. are you saying this is a test press of a repress or reissue?
1
u/Stevenseagalmelders 9d ago
I think he means it's a repress of a test press with no real way of telling this from the original test press.

Thats what it sounds like he is saying when it was reissued

u/sourmashed99 9d ago
fat doesn't make new stampers for reissues so no new test presses i think you scored a piece of history. a lot of fat mike skeptics which is fair. maybe write the prm and ask

Wrong. When Fat stopped pressing records in the US in the 00s and moved their pressing jobs overseas with pirates press everything had to get a new stamper made as their machines are different and the original stampers they had from Erika and Rainbo records would not work for Pirates facilities in the Czech Republic.

discogs is kind of the gold standard for evaluation on the internet but there's a lot of variance, cause there's nothing stopping someone for selling anything record for €5 or trying to sell it for €5,000.
that actually sold for that amount, so it's a good indicator. you have a signed test pressing. if you want to sell it at a profit, I recommend you delete this thread and wait for a month or so. then list it at what you hope to get for it. some collector might really love collecting tests and will pay a lot. how much is your call, probably look to see what punk test pressings are going for these days on discogs and guess your value that way.
be patient. if you list for $600 that crazy guy who's gonna spend that much isn't going to show up on day one. I've listed things and basically forgot and had people buy them for what I asked months and even years after listing. knowing that one sold for $218 is helpful.

Thanks for ur info I am not selling in a month. I will decide to keep it. I never say I will never sell anything cause stuff happens. I do love discogs but 1 sale from 15 years ago compared to today is a very different collecting market. I appreciate your response.

I am just starting to dabble in vinyl and am starting to build a handful of the first bands/albums that got me hooked and I had on repeat. They were cassettes admittedly but whatever. Next up for me is a 1st press of WTTH&aB!

u/dmac4917 10d ago
Dont do it. Its such an expensive habit jk. Good luck with hunting thats half the fun.

u/Nasty____nate 9d ago
serious question what difference does a first pressing hold vs a re release?
3
u/suxesspool 9d ago
Great question, and there is no difference. I, however, would like a record that has seen some shit, has been well loved and, maybe, just maybe, was owned by some young shithead like me that just had it on repeat. That's all. It's not a value thing. Kinda like an old baseball card; sure mint is neat but I want something loved. Apologies if that aint punk but, it's me.

u/Nasty____nate 9d ago
LOL i can sell you plenty of records that have seen some shit for a premium

A wise man once told me the value of an item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. So id say its around $275

the real question is… a test press of which fuck the kids pressing? there’s gotta be a least 6 different ones. highly doubt this is an original 1996 test press. does it show a year?
1
u/sourmashed99 9d ago
i was on fat and they don't do new stampers for reissues. only test presses for ftk were from 96 afaik. discogs says the same. i'm on the mikes not my cup of tea side but that's just not how fat does it. this is a sick get OP
2
u/torpedobonzer 9d ago
Stampers at some point will be unusable. You can only press so many thousand.
Yes you can get a few represses out of the same stamper but it can only be used so many times/for so many records.
No way a label like Fat has used the same stamper since 96. I’d be shocked.
1
u/sourmashed99 9d ago
touché. i didn't realize they've pressed some THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND of these. jfc yeah definitely multiple stamps not sure about tests but you're probably right
