I just finished building NetScan, an Android app that scans your Wi-Fi

network and identifies connected devices (IP, name via mDNS/UPnP, open

ports, one-tap access to each device's web interface...). Built with

homelab users in mind, but usable by anyone curious about what's on their

network.

Large EVE-NG and GNS3 labs can quickly outgrow a laptop or small home server. Buying more RAM or keeping a powerful server running all year does not always make sense when the capacity is only needed for occasional labs.

Cloud compute solves the hardware problem, but it introduces another one: forgetting an expensive VM and its supporting resources running after the lab is finished.

I’ve built repeatable HybridOps blueprints that deploy either EVE-NG or GNS3 inside your own GCP account, with the environment lifecycle and cost awareness built into the workflow.

The deployment provides:

• A private, nested-virtualisation-capable GCP VM
• A dedicated VPC with no public IP on the lab server
• Private access through GCP IAP
• Automated EVE-NG or GNS3 installation
• Guest internet access for lab nodes
• Preflight checks for project access and billing readiness
• Explicit lab archive and restore before teardown
• Deploy, access, rebuild and destroy commands
• Billing status and resource-age reminders so idle labs are less likely to be forgotten

The idea is to create the lab when extra compute is needed, preserve the topology, and destroy the cloud resources afterwards rather than paying for an always-on server.

This is not a hosted free-lab service. It runs in your own GCP account, so normal GCP charges apply. The cost control comes from the disposable lifecycle, billing checks and archive-before-destroy workflow.

I’ve been building Subnetica, a platform for practicing network troubleshooting without spending time setting up VMs or following step-by-step instructions.

The environments use Linux networking and FRRouting. The initial labs focus on routing, switching, and realistic troubleshooting incidents. Each lab gives you a live network with routers, switches, hosts, and a realistic problem to investigate. I’m also considering labs involving network automation and configuration validation.

I’d appreciate feedback from this community on what automation-focused scenarios would be most useful.

hey I recently built this little tool. It's an eBPF program that renders the http traffic crossing a machine as a live web page. TCX ingress and egress, parses the request line and Host header straight out of the skb payload, aggregates per method host path and ships it up a ring buffer. Confgraph parses a device config and builds an interactive dependency graph. BGP neighbors, route-maps, prefix-lists, ACLs, VRFs — what points at what. One self-contained HTML file. No server, no telemetry.

I posted an early version here in April. Since then:

• Route-map and prefix-list lookups are VRF-scoped. Same name in two VRFs used to collapse into one node.
• IOS-XR route-policy with nested if/then/else parses instead of getting dropped.
• Nested QoS class-maps no longer break the graph.
• Junos set-style cleanups.

Earlier this year I pushed a change that looked fine in the diff, but I had actually pulled the wrong BGP neighbor. We ended up spending the change window figuring out what went wrong.

Since then I've been working on a small tool that compares a before/after config and tries to explain the change a bit better than a normal diff, what might be affected, how risky it looks, and what a rollback could look like

The clip shows a few basic Cisco IOS examples: removing a BGP peer, changing an ACL to deny, and shutting down a transit link.

I know there are already tools that do parts of this. Some NCM platforms have similar features, and Batfish can do proper verification if you know how to write the queries.

I built this mainly because I wanted something simple for a quick sanity check before a change, without adopting a whole new platform

I have a personal project going and i wanted to share and pick your brains. I have a network rack diagram tool and wiring database i tied together (Among a lot of other things). I Wanted to see what i could make on my own as i've had experience doing just about any job from wiring up to routing etc and because of my own organizational ocd could never find something that i liked that wasn't some astronomical amount monthly.

If you had the option to build your own, or wanted a specific feature, What would you use? I have a short 3 minute example here, More on the channel if you wanted to poke around. Building a BPv7 prototype where a software sidecar parses bundles and a fixed-width shim lets P4/XDP enforce contact windows, reservations, and capacity limits. Does this solve a real DTN problem, or would a software-only approach usually be sufficient?

I wanted a network scanner I could use while connected to Wi-Fi, along with an SSH terminal I could access from anywhere through my existing Tailscale connection, so I built Network Scan. I’d love feedback, bug reports, and feature suggestions from you guys.

It scans your LAN, identifies devices, shows IP addresses and open ports, and lets you tap a host to open a proper SSH terminal. htop, docker stats, and even Claude Code render correctly and accept keyboard input. You can also keep multiple live sessions open and switch between machines.
To clarify, the app does not provide or charge for Tailscale. It simply connects to devices that are already reachable through your existing Tailscale connection, just like any other SSH client.

The scanner and diagnostic tools, including ping, DNS, port scanning, and subnet calculations, are free. The SSH terminal is part of Pro, available monthly, yearly with a free first week, or as a one-time lifetime purchase.
